I agree that you need a new neuro that can run more tests. Do you have a major hospital or teaching hospital near you? Has your gp done a full set of bloodwork? If not I would also encourage that for things like auto immune,b12,blood sugar. Was the mri just of the lowe back and not the spine or does that cover both? What about of the brain? Hang in there and I hope you find someone who is willing to work with you.

You can find every test for PN at
www.lizajane.org and see which bases your doc has.... or hasn't, covered.

this generalized, i would be thinking a systemic issue....with perhaps an overlay of ortho......B12 is a good place to start for the general stuff...the original back pain and pelvic pain, could they be kidney related? good luck

A phys med doc gave me Nortriptaline on thursday for Fibromyalgia even though she said that I dont have any of the major symtoms (the tender spots) but just wanted to make sure. I am soooo tired of all this guessing and cost. I d get fired if I guessed how to do my job! The MRI was just of the lower back because thats were my pain was initially. The day before is when the numbess in my legs started. I keep telling these people that if they dont help me find out what this is soon, I will end up in a wheel chair! Thank you so much for your advice. |

I agree wholeheartedly with all those who recommend going to another neurologist. Evidently, there are many out there who either are not aware of all the different things that can trigger PN. Some, like the one I was lucky enough to find, will go beyond their normal testing protocol in order to try something else that might be the culprit. As I posted earlier, my neurologist ran enough blood tests to realize that I needed to see a hemotologist who could do the necessary testing. He, after taking 6 vials of blood, plus a bone marrow biopsy, found that I have what is labeled Waldenstroms Syndrone. A fancy word for blood cancer.
Thanks to the good Lord, a relatively new drug, (6yrs) was developed that will kill the cancer cells. Along with bringing the cancer into manageable levels, the neuropathy will fade out. So I'm told. We'll see The point is, don't give up. Go to another neuro for another opinion. Good luck in your hunt. ![]() |
