Default Anybody else goof on their dogs?

What's the fun of having a dog if you can't goof on them once in a while?

We always put food bowl on the left - water on the right. Every few months, we switch them for a day or two.

We have flavored biscuits ("cookies") in two sizes - LG & SM. We take one of each size (must be the same flavor) in each hand behind our back, and present them simultaneously, about 8" - 9" apart. Whichever one he chooses, the other is withdrawn. (Kind of an intelligence test.) So far he has almost always gone for the big one. Once he was so excited, he somehow missed the big one and grabbed the small one. Then he noticed the big one
.
(the double-take was priceless) and dropped the small one, going instead for the larger. Too late! He gets them both eventually anyway, but it sure can be fun keeping him on his toepads....
.

Heart Love my dog's new discoveries

My dog jumped up on the bed today as I was folding laundry. I noticed he was looking in the mirror with a confused expression, so I reached over and petted him. Once he realized he could feel AND see me petting him, he took off like a shot!!! I've never seen a 65-lb dog move so quickly in my life!!!

Default It does go both ways....

Our dogs have found ways to goof on us as well, providing evidence that they do possess a sense of humor (or at least a desire to elicit certain behaviors).

Both of our Labs took/take great pleasure in running through mud puddles, splashing & covering us with all manner of wet blech, then standing off at a distance and wagging all the harder. Probably anthropomorphizing, but it looks like they're thinking, "Bwahahaha - I got you really good!"

I also think some of them take great delight in poking a cold wet nose in various places....

Grin glass door/beebee gun/shitz zu

.
My dog always scratches my glass storm door when he wants to come back in.So one day my son "accidently" shoots the glass door with a beebee gun. for two weeks my dog would run up and jump to scratch the door and fall through!(he was not hurt)It was the funniest thing ever..

I asked my daughter if she used to goof on her dog, like the food and water bowl trick. She said no, but she used to do it to her ex-husband.

My mom and I used to rearrange my dad's comb, wallet, etc. on his nightstand just to mess with him. Amazingly, it was always mysteriously put back in order within minutes!

"Find the cookie" can be a fun game in and of itself. If you wash your hands thoroughly (to remove any residual scent) and hide a biscuit in one hand, (without touching it with the other) your dog will be able to sniff it out. Many dogs (like ours) can sniff it out anyway from the strength of scent.

A game that works better with small* dogs is to hide a biscuit inside a disposable plastic container with snap-on lid. Once they get that, put the first container inside another of slightly larger size. Margarine & Cool Whip tubs work well.

*Small dogs will usually open the containers to get to the treat; large dogs tend to destroy the containers right off. Exceptions noted both ways.
