Gazelle,
I didn't read the replies so forgive me if I repeat or missed something that you may have already said.

I have 2 very long haired hymilayians and 1 Rag Doll. I take all 3 of my cats to the groomer and have them cut into "Lion Cuts" twice a year. This is basically shaving of the cats except for boots on their feet and a mane around their necks. I also leave their tails huge and fluffy. I do it to control the shedding and also, I think my cats are healthier because they don't throw up hair balls all the time from their own constant grooming.

They look strangely cute, but it is a personal preferance. They are BEAUTIFUL with all the long flowing hair which is hard to maintain. I have always had comments about my beautiful cats and I just started this grooming process last year but I have been happier because I couldn't stand all the fur all over everything in my house and even floating in the air.

Best of luck !!!

Snoodles - I've sen cats cut like that and wonder - "Why doesn't everybody do that to their cat? That is uber COOL!"

Gazelle and Doody, let me know how that furminator works for ya. If you like it, I'm going in too.

.

I got the PediPaws (odd xmas gift, huh?)
.
. I got the dogs used to it, letting me trim a little - except nail bitin' nervous Rudy (accessories sold separately).

Poms grow nails super fast, so I might wear it out really fast. But they like this better than clippers so far. Anything for a dog bone.

You got it Brain! I'll do Chewie, my polydactyl first. He's the one my vet did and they were shocked at the bags and bags and bags of fur they got from him. His fur is SO dense and thick! At least I got him down to about 22 lbs.

wow, that's the first time I saw that in action.
That looks brilliant.

Doody,

I got the Furminator and it worked a treat on my dog. It looked just like the pics on the website. Now with Swiper, he wouldn't sit still very long, so I only got a little. Plus, you're not really supposed to use it on matted hair according to the directions.

Snoodles, I may just have to take him to get him professionally done first before I can do anything with him with the Furminator. We'll have to see. I've seen the Lion cuts and they look crazy! Not sure I can do that to him, but then again after dealing with all his shedding and the mats, it's a real possibility.
.

Thanks for suggesting it.

I'm definitely going to keep using the Furminator!! AWESOME!

Plus I got a Dyson Absolute Animal Vac and cannot believe how much cleaner my carpets are. Definitely worth the price. I felt like a slob after using it the first time. Yuck!!! But now it's better every time I use it. So that's a happy thing.

Let me know how you like the Furminator, Doody.

I LOVE the Furminator, but even better, Chewie loves it! That's the part that surprises me. Chewie is my most fur-full cat, LOL. He hated being combed with my other comb.

I tried it on him last night and he closed his eyes and totally relaxed, blew my mind! This will take me several days for sure. I can only sit so long and comb him and he has tons 'o fur. My other cats like it too. Don't know what it is about it, but it's almost like it feels good to them.

I didn't see that it said that about matted fur, darn it. Gonna have to get out my scissors for Tink!

Cool, Doody! That's so crazy that they like it. But I'm glad for you (and them)!

If Swiper didn't like biting so much (love bites--they don't hurt), it wouldn't be so bad. But he starts with that and then moves on to swiping at me with his claws trying to play.
.
ouch!!

I haven't had a cat in many years *sniff...wipes tears.

But I used to vacuum her.
.
I started doing it when she was a kitty. She loved it. I never had fur on anything.

I love my Dyson too Gazelle. It's amazing how much more it picks up, then regular vacs. I'm a vacuum addict.
