Doody, what about just a jar or can of gravy?

They may just use unflavored gelatin. It's easy to use to thicken food. Just mix with hot water then stir.

Thanks, I'll try that as well. God I hope he eats tonight.

Oh, and Chewie is a big purrer anyway. Though I've been through a lot of cats that I've experienced that, I don't think Chewie's purring right now is related to that. But, he does move carefully. I'm SURE he's got to be hurting. Lord knows when I had my gall bladder out, it was so frippin painful for 2 weeks. So he surely has discomfort.

I'm pampering him the best I can.

I should shut up about it now cause I'm getting upset just thinking about him not eating, lol.

thanks.

Heart

Try not to get too stressed Doody. Chewie will feel it.

Even if he has to lick a little bit it off your finger to start. I bet he is scared to eat.

I can understand the liquid diet considering the bowel surgery.
Doody, You might have to get a syringe too, just to make sure Chewie is taking in enough water. I wasn't sure exactly what the AD prescription stuff looks like so looked it up. It's can. I was hoping it was actually a biscuit because then it could have been mixed in water until it was a mush. I find it a bit confusing they told you to use only liquid when they were giving a canned food.
.

Anyway, make sure you get water into him. You can use a syringe and put it in the mouth on the side of the mouth between the back teeth and just go slowly and Chewie will swallow. Same with liquid food. I guess if you have a blender, you could try blending up chicken and rice and water for the moment. That's if he likes chicken. It's not a CLEAR liquid of course. The vet didn't say 'clear', they said liquid, so that should be ok. blender or a moulie (?sp) one of those little hand held gadgets. I used to make baby food with one. "A device for straining seeds or skins from fruit or vegetable purees or mixtures. Usually has a range of screens with different sized holes or slots. Sometimes known as a mouli."

Yikes, typing so fast... running out of time.

Thinking of you!!!

Found some interesting info regarding surgery in general.

One of the things I found fascinating is to get your kitty to eat you should stroke and pet him to stimulate his appetite, who knew?

I have posted the link because it has lots of great info on both dog and cat surgery.

Good Luck Doody......Keep the faith!

Dottie

Thanks as always you wonderful people.

I stopped at the pharmacy and they gave me a big syringe. Blended up some AD, water, and the food he normally likes to 'lick', nibble a little. He'd have nothing to do with it. So I filled up the syringe and forced it down him. He wasn't very happy with me but within minutes he was rubbing against me, meowing, purring, and then settled into his favorite spot on the couch.

Yes, the vet did dilute the AD canned food. They weren't feeding it to him even the way the canned food comes. More of a liquid paste. So that's what I did! I didn't want him to go another night without eating. He's held it down. Now to get his antibiotic pill down him, but I'm waiting a bit to make sure he doesn't upchuck.

Doody, maybe it's not his tummy, but a sore throat from having a big ole tube shoved down it.

I know mine hurt like the dickens after I had surgery.

Good to hear he kept it down.

Hi Doody,

firstly sorry you and poor Chewie have to go thru this, it must be awful! I know all about the Awful AD tinned food, my poor dog had to have similar stuff just before I found out he had cancer.

I had a terrible time finding something to tempt him, and ended up at the supermarket buying the most expensive fish I've ever bought, (would never have spent that much on me, but it was ok for my boy) and pan fried it in a TINY bit of olive oil, this was the only thing he would eat, mostly I think because it smelt so appetizing. Maybe some of this mixed up in a blender with some fish stock may be a bit tempting.
Im thinking of you both, if it was just faith, hope and love our dear animals needed to make them better, they would outlive us I think!!
