Is there a maximum dosage in a day for Omega-3? I am taking Omega-3 1200 mg a day with the purpose of easing my GERD? I want to increase the dosage but I am wondering if it will help.
BTW, I have a history of high cholesterol. In fact, it runs in teh family (from grandparents, parents, uncles/aunties and all of my siblings). Since I started taking Omega-3 regularly, my cholesterol and triglycerides have been normal ![]() |

Yes, it will help.
I used one flax oil capsule, one evening primrose and one fish oil for 3 months... GERD gone. I think it was the mixture. So add in 1 flax and one evening primrose into your fish oil. Take all with food. Flax provides the beginning essential fatty acid, ALA, and fish oil is the end point made from ALA. The GLA in the evening primrose is the "gatekeeper" for making beneficial Cox-1 cytokines. Since your GERD is serious, you can add one extra fish oil too. That is great about your improved bloodwork! ![]() ALA is abbreviated here to represent alpha linolenic acid.

Make sure you have the doctor check your C-reactive protein. Inflammation is important. Cholesterol is not the whole story. Most doctors do not understand.
My doctors have me taking two Fish Oil pills per day from Pure Encapsulations. Salmon for sure, YUM! I take Brevaille or ground flax daily, coconut oil and coconut manna. So many good oils. When I stopped the sugar and bad carbs my cholest, triglycerides went down. My C-reactive protein test is great too. I am so glad your tests are better now!

There is an algae derived source now, for both EPA and DHA, but the EPA is not as high in a regular fish oil.
Females convert flax ALA into EPA and DHA in the body eventually. Taking the fish oil is just faster. Males are much lower in this conversion however. I am having problems finding which algae are safe to consume, and which are connected to the BMAA toxin, found in blue green algae sold as supplements commonly. (linked to CNS degenerative disorders recently) The new vegan Omega-3 product is: http://www.vegetarianvitamins.com/st...Fcc7MgodAkAA1Q It is not harvested but grown commercially in vats. You'll have to look around further for yourself on this one.

I eat salmon regularly, mostly grilled. I love salmon too but my only concern is the farm-raised salmon which are raised with antibiotiics. My store hardly sell wild-caught salmon. |

If the flaxseeds are fresh and stored in the frig...then they will supply ALA (alpha linolenic acid).
I only used a regular primrose capsule, not a big super one. You don't need alot of this one, just some. Some foods come with flaxoil added. eg: http://www.smartbalance.com/products...ry-spread-flax I took the typical flax oil 1000mg capsule. For a while we made our own salad dressings with flax oil instead of other oils --my son really liked it this way. I also added it to smooties when we did those alot. But in those days there were no "smart foods" on the market yet...this was way over a decade ago. I recall reading Barlean's flaxoil website, back then and they had a link to IAMs pet foods which had just introduced Omega-3's for pets. I switched our ill at the time, Sheba to the new Eukanuba kibble and she lived to be almost 24yrs old...she was just shy a couple of months! At that time she was eating Science Diet, which was very high in corn, like some cat foods today still are. She had sores on her face and was a mess. None of the vets could help, but when Barlean's led me to IAMs....I took that hint. It cleared her right up, her coat became glossy and she was happy! (my current avatar is a computer drawing/portrait of Sheba back then). Now of course we know that the imbalance of too many Omega-6's, creates inflammation in the body, but back then it was still "research" . Flax and fish oils are foods...not vitamins. So they are needed and consumed in higher amounts. The primrose oil, I don't think needs to be high, just some. And the GLA in primrose has been long recommended for diabetics. Borage oil is also a good source. http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Eveni...0-Softgels/609 One of these a day (notice the recommendation is 3 a day) is enough for most people IMO. GLA is an omega-6, but it acts as a brake in the inflammation cycle. You don't need alot of this, or you'll need more flax to make up for it.

Mrs D. I have never understood how a vet could sell Science Diet. SO odd. Food is so important for our doggies and pets just like for us. Oh well. Thankfully there are excellent foods out there. I have a holistic vet and they do understand foods and supplements for healing pets.
Idiopathic, I was going to add to make sure you grind your flax seed when adding to smoothies, oatmeal, etc.
