Have you named your SCS?
I was thinking a while back, when the term Spinal Cord Stimulator was first introduced to me, and someone said .. "Hmm, how would you feel with a foreign object in your body?"
That actually made me stop and think as I actually hadn't considered it .. I just thought of it as a surgical intervention. I sat a good while pondering this .. worrying that I would have it implanted then think .. "Erkkkk ALIEN .. get it out! Now!" Then I realised that if I was going to go through with this I'd better come to terms with the fact that there's going to be a little friend with me (hopefully) for the rest of my life if it makes my life more bearable than it is. So .. I have decided to name it. It's definitely going to be a "he" rather than a "she" ... Felix after my first loved rabbit? Or Arthur after my Dad? OOOh decisions, decisions. I just wondered if any of you guys have named your little companion? Saffy xx |
Nope never thought about it-However I did have the bad vibes of having foreign entities in my body. It was the worst part of my decision-Carol

Well SAffy I know a few have names for their SCS. I havent at the moment but I think maybe I should start:Ddont want to be the odd one out.
Have to say its taking a bit of time getting used to this whole battery under my skin. eeewwwwww. Im just a bit queasy at the mere thought of touching it.......... Im thinking that as its in my butt, thats my left butt;) maybe I should call it something like 'Butt light rear':D what ya think?????;) Jackie :D |
Indeed I have! In fact, I just officially named it today--and I don't have it yet! 9 days and I should, though! :)
I named it/her Hope! Not only is it my favorite word, but it is what this implant is giving me... hope for a better future... a better life without so much pain... and a chance to one day be up and walking around instead of being bedridden. =) Have you decided between Felix and Arthur yet? |
You ROCK Jackie!

That brings back memories of one of my twin sons back when he was about 4 years old (age 15 now)......he just HAD to have a 'Buzz Light Year" for Christmas after the hit movie "Toy Story" had come out..... I'll never forget the look on his face when he saw his Buzz Lightyear under the tree! SAFFY! You are SO on the ball!! YES!! Actually we did a 'chat party' one night up in the chat rooms (top of page) and several had named their Buzzers..... Mark's is "PJ" (Praise Jesus)..... Others named theirs as well I 'think' I named mine that night, but I forgot what it was....... :Scratch-Head: .....emmmm...were we partaking in the wine cellar that nite ? :D Actually I think I named mine in honor of a horse that Pooh had recently lost, so it was a bittersweet spontaneous thing..... None the less! We ARE the BIONIC BUTT BUZZERS ! :winner_first_h4h: We take pride in our new super powers  Oye Mates! The fun never ends! |
:DOOh .. will we all have butt batteries? Can you choose which side? ;) I've read of someone who had theirs in their tummy.
Butt Light Rear .. love it ! I'll know when I see it, whether it's a Felix or an Arthur! (chuckle) Can you feel it/see it? What does your partner think when they touch it? (The battery !!!!!! ) |
Oh I say !!

I know of one person who has the battery in their tummy, she has it for her arms. I think the more common place is in your butt. Dont know if you would get a choice. My pains are more in my left side so hence the battery is positioned in my left butt:rolleyes: Im sure you doctor will be able to tell you. Not long now!!!;) |
Hmmm, makes me think.....The Dr. told me that issues with having a foreign object in your body is one of the reasons for the psych eval and it makes sens when you think about it. That thought really never crossed my mind as when my accident happened I got a whole ton of foriegn objects put into my body and had no time or opportunity to think about it or question it and I just sort of accepted it. I dont think that the SCS will freak me out in that sense however I had not thought about being able to see/feel it......that one makes me think a bit; does it get irritated if you lay on it? does the waste band of pants or belts irritate it? where else have people had them implanted? I have just added several new questions to my list for the doctor, hmmmmm I wonder how my twins will react to it??? I think naming it is a great idea, perhaps I will let the boys pick the name????
I LOVE THIS BOARD! always so much good information! |
My battery is in my upper left butt, basically on the belt line as you say. Although my surgeon did say to me that it was slightly over it....I said well it depends on what kind of trousers you wear:D ie, hipsters, low rise jeans, or SImon Cowell pants up around your chest:D
When I say I can see it, I mean I can see the outline but moreso I can feel the actual shape of the battery. When I lie down I can feel it a bit as its still a little tender, as Im only just 3 months over the operation. I still wear a bandage , just a small one, over it as Im still nervous in case my belt scratches off it. My Dr did say that it takes over 4/5 months for the skin to toughen up over the battery and to be very careful not to bang it or hit off it. Obviously so as not to dislodge it:eek: When I had my 2 spinal fusions done in '06 I had rods and screws put in. Now then I didnt mind the 'foreign body' as it was more 'inside' me. They ran up and down my spine. Whereas this battery is 'just there'. but Im sure in another while I will be over the whole 'ewwwww' stage....Im such a wimp!!!;) Its great to have lots of questions to ask Twinmom. At least then you will come away with lots of information and then you can pass it all onto us too.....in case we have missed anything out! Good luck for Thursday  |
my unit is in my abdomen on my right side, it took awhile to scar in (this is my unit) doc REALLY wanted to put it in my rump last time. I think my odds of it getting put in my abd with my next unit are slim and none. I have not named my unit but i HAVE been known to call it names:eek: when it is not working as it should
