On the move

Hi all, I've landed in Toad Hollow, IL after a rather yucky drive through Chicago, I'm not a fan. I caught up with Wiz, her hub & DM for lunch, then had dinner with DM & her hub. What a great day, it was so much fun and I am seriously whipped in a good way.

Here's a link to my pics so far. DM is the nutty one, she ain't right.

Shell, I won't be going that far south this time.:o:( Dangit! free food tastes best!

I'll check in when I land.:)

Sal, we did look so good! It was a great day!:D

Taffy 09-10-2007 09:04 AM

Oh DM...You never told me you were about 25 years old. You sure look it.

DM slides Taffy a chocolate bar with a $20 taped to it under the table. Wink* Wink*

AfterMyNap 09-10-2007 08:23 PM

Wow, am I whipped! I made it to SD today and my big objective here has to wait until tomorrow. I had all I could do to get a room and order a pizza and eat all the toppings and not the crust. It's a lot of work!

Cabela's tomorrow morning and I'm off to the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore. Not much in the way of pics, the corn kind of looks the same no matter where it is.

greta 09-10-2007 08:34 PM

Badlands are cool, but a long way off from Mt Rushmore. It truly is beautiful there. I spent several weeks driving out there and camping with a boyfriend who was from Custer just after I graduated from college. My aunt and uncle lived right near the big indian stone carving (Crazy Horse) if you are hitting that part of SD, it's definitely worth hitting Crazy Horse and Custer State Park. The bison are so cool.

Have fun - I wish I was there right now!!

tovaxin_lab_rat 09-10-2007 10:41 PM

Corn is corn. They're cutting it here or harvesting I guess...sillage. Smelly stuff! Feed corn!

Glad you are having a good time! :D

watsonsh 09-12-2007 03:42 PM

This is fun...kind of like where is waldo or Matt Lauer or better yet AMN.

Olly Olly Oxen free...come out come out wherever you are?

Rats I cant see through all this corn. :D

michael178 09-12-2007 04:13 PM

I just moved back to South Dakota from washington state, and wish I could recommend some place you guys haven't thought of, to visit, but, sadly, I view the trip from one side of ther state to the other as a long boring trip, with little to see at either end.

Corn is kind of tough to see through! That's why all those pheasants hide in it during hunting season!

Where oh where is AMN?

Drinking beer and eating mexican food!

DM 09-12-2007 07:31 PM

Taffy meister?? My shirt says "DM" Proudly stalked by AMN!

How cool is that??? Love the pics AMN!!! How many signs did you see advertising WALL DRUG????

Keep the pics coming, but do take plenty of time for you..

Rest.....:Zzzz:

AfterMyNap 09-12-2007 08:25 PM

Hi guys, I am at Keystone, SD near Mt. Rushmore. This town is a zoo!

I haven't uploaded more pics yet, but I'll try to get to it later tonight, hang in there, we have the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore, and tomorrow we'll go caving!

Gotta crash!

watsonsh 09-12-2007 09:34 PM

I have always wanted to go to Mount Rushmore :(. I kinda picture AMN's face up there with the prezzies.

Thinking maybe if we pop the corn we could watch a movie. Anyone got any melted butter and salt?

SallyC 09-13-2007 01:04 PM

Where oh where is our AMN?

AfterMyNap 09-13-2007 11:21 PM

Hey, sorry I'm so late, I've been underground all day. I'll just stick a pic or two up for you here. In fact, I'm also keeping another group informed with a bit of detail, let me know if you'd like a link.

Caving today at Jewel and Wind caves. Spectacular! And I saw wild buffalo for the firt time, fabulous! Tomorrow is a driving day, heading north, how fun this has been!

Riverwild 09-14-2007 06:52 AM

Kicks back in the old armchair with coffee in hand and goes on vacation with AMN, singing loudly...

"OH GIVE ME A HOOOOOOOME..."

AfterMyNap 09-15-2007 11:17 PM

Hi you guys, today was mostly a driving day but I did spend the morning stalking wild animals. Happily, I got within spitting distance of a buffalo herd. Also, I spotted two wild horses (click on the thumbnail and look in the lower/left quadrant).

After that, I hated to go, but it was MT time, and I'm here in MT now. Tomorrow is Little Bighorn where I expect to spend the entire day. I am having a marvelous time!

watsonsh 09-15-2007 11:25 PM

Awesome pics!! Being originally from Buffalo I love the Buffalo!

Hey! We're in the same time zone! Cool!

SallyC 09-16-2007 12:03 PM

I feel a rendition of "Home, home on the range" coming on.....la la la.:D

It looks like you can actually breath out there..... ahhhhhhh........:p...except when you get too close to the buffalo..:p

AfterMyNap 09-16-2007 11:18 PM

LOL, Sal, there is actually a town in MT named Home on The Range! I went by the sign at the customary speed and had no way to get a pic.

Today was a relax and take it easy kind of day. I slept in a good while, did some mapping, and went over to Little Bighorn. That was a somber experience, it was a violent battle. I don't have many pics but I did get close to some wild horses, so here's a pic of them. I wonder if that mare is pregnant and if that foal is hers. Do horses rebound like rabbits?

SallyC 09-16-2007 11:53 PM

Well, that pretty mare is either pregnant or she had FFM (CBK) for Breakfast..LOL!!

DM 09-18-2007 07:37 AM

Isn't this trip FUN? Thanks for taking us all along w/ya, Cin!

I love the fact that there are still buffalo and wild horses roaming free. Sad, that there aren't more.. I'm still amazed at your travels and in my BIG GIRL voice.... TAKE CARE.....

PS: Taff! I expected change back from that Twenty!!!:D

AfterMyNap 09-18-2007 08:01 AM

Well, I've made it into Yellowstone country and it is divine! It's a little brrrr this morning, 41° but it will warm up to a balmy 67° if the weather dudes are even a little close to the mark.

I will go down to Grand Teton for the day, I hope I can contain my urge to fish long enough to make the trip through Yellowstone NP on the way! It might rain and I don't even care! I have my rainsuit and I'll just put it on and keep going. The weather doesn't take away from the beauty of a place like this!

Here is a little of what I'm seeing:

SallyC 09-18-2007 12:29 PM

Great pictures Cin.

Be careful of those bears in yellowstone......and don't set any fires.

Be careful out there dahlink..ok:hug:

watsonsh 09-19-2007 08:06 PM

Oh I have always wanted to go there. Thanks for the great pics. And I thanks for letting me crash your fun from time to time. :D

DM 09-19-2007 08:34 PM

How cool is this??? Cindy was on the webcam at Yellowstone and called me, so I was talking to her while the camera was taking her pic. She gave me some hilarious poses and Old Faithful was right behind her...

I laughed so hard and it totally made my day. Seeing her doing what she wants to do and loving it was soooo coooool!.

AfterMyNap 09-20-2007 09:17 PM

hey, all, I'm still at Yellowstone. Today turned out to be a day of rest with little activity. I just relaxed all day, I was really feeling tired. This was supposed to be a fishing day but the wind was too wild and it threatened rain all day.:(

Yesterday was super fun and ended at the Old Faithful geyser with the webcam. Here's one of those shots that a friend snagged for me. I'm in light sleeves and a black vest. Also, there is a scooter involved. ;)

SallyC 09-20-2007 11:57 PM

Cool picture.......it looks chilly there....I like that..:D

Are you traveling tomorrow? VVROOM VVROOM!!

AfterMyNap 09-21-2007 07:44 AM

Thanks, Sal, that whole webcam thing was a real kick, everyone had a great time.

Today is fishing day, all day. Yesterday, the wind was outrageous and makes it practically impossible to flyfish for an average person. For me, it's a ridiculous thing to try. I needed to rest so I took the day "off" and didn't do much of anything at all. It's supposed to reach the high 70s and calm today, so I'm counting on spending some serious time in the legendary Yellowstone River.

Then on Sat. it's a combo park/fishing day. Sunday it's a driving day, a short few hours up to Helena. A good night's sleep and my guided float trip on Monday. Then, the decision whether to go on or head home.

This whole trip has been such a wonder for me, I'm thankful for everything I've been able to see.

Riverwild 09-21-2007 11:07 AM

Hi Cin!!

What river? Is it a fishing float? MORE DETAILS!!

I have been following you and CBK via your pics, and FBK/FFM via her pics. Are you two gonna meet up somewhere??

The net cam at Old Faithful was hilarious! I was asleep so I missed the live shots, but the posts were so funny! I can just picture you gyrating to DM's phone directions and people there just watching you going "WHAT is she DOING???"

Your pictures are tremendous and you make us feel like we are right there with ya and I for one, wish I was!!! I keep showing the man the pics and whining "we have to go out west!" "I wanna go THERE!"

Keep posting pics, stay safe and have TOO MUCH FUN!! :)

AfterMyNap 09-22-2007 08:53 AM

Thanks, RW, it has been magical. Yesterday (Fri) was a nightmare. The winds were so high, my fishing/wading day was terrible. I've discovered that I just don't have the strength to compete with the huge river cobble anymore. I was wicked tired last night and very upset. This is another huge part of me that has been stripped away; I actually feel violated.

Today is my last Yellowstone park day, I'll be poking around the east side of the park. I had been concentrating on the west side with all the geysers, etc. I haven't seen any bear or moose yet, so I'm hoping to spot some.

It's funny, when I was a little kid, people were still feeding the bears marshmallows right from their cars! No more of that, and I'm glad.

Sunday is a driving day en route to Craig, MT where Monday, I'll float fish the Little MO with a guide and I hope for less or no winds. I'm hoping like crazy that I'll get at least one big runner!

Snoopy 09-23-2007 03:02 AM

Cindy, what wonderful pictures!

We went to Yellowstone a few years ago and hated to leave. If you get to Idaho there are Ice Caves that are truly awesome to see.

I'm hoping Monday is windless for you ;)
