No more head lice for NaeNae!!! That's great news!

And I'm very happy to see that Frank'sAngel got rid of the bug in her siggy area. hehe!

Kay, if you don't want skeeter bites, I recommend you quit exposing yourself, lol! :rolleyes: Sheesh, it's a good thing you live in the jungle or you'd prolly get arrested or somethin. Oh, and speaking of pesky critters, I'm glad you got rid of your housepest!

Sandy, I could sure use a laundry lady here at my place when you get caught up there. ;)

Vonn, I'd sure be interested to hear about then men in your life AND the life in your men, hehe! :wink:

Momma's Kids 11-07-2008 08:47 PM

My philosophy of being overweight is very simple...if you can't hide it, decorate it!!

I lose, I gain, I lose and then it comes back...

Just made a huge pot of brunswick stew, enough to feed about 20 people...that should hold the families for a day or so...

glad all are doing well...glad the pediculosis have left NaeNae...and the laundry is done...

Tomorrow I start on my christmas candy making...

Kitty 11-08-2008 06:54 AM

Good Morning!! Since this thread is still short I think I can mention everyone who has already posted!!

Momma, can I come make candy with you? :o I love doing stuff like that! I also love your philosophy about weight! I'm still tryin' to lose but it seems that the older I get the harder it is to do. :rolleyes:

Renee, so glad to hear that the bugs have taken a hike.

Deb, good luck trying to keep Frank off the computer!! :p

Twink, congratulations on the shopping!! Several years ago I went "power shopping" and in one day was able to complete my Christmas shopping. Couldn't do that today!!

Vonn, wanna elaborate on that statement??? :D ;)

Sandy, laundry took over my home last week, too. How do we get so much of it? :confused:

Kay, how are the geese this morning? Poor Gandolf.....has he had any luck yet?? :p

Everyone have a great Saturday. Of course, I was woken up early and my warm spot in the bed has been taken over by two furry babies!! I just love them!! :circlelove:

yeahbut 11-08-2008 07:49 AM

Good Morning Everyone!

Renee, it is good to hear from you, glad the lice is gone but how are you feeling?

COK - I would like to come and make candy too! I miss doing that with the kids.

Deb - kick some butt with that man of yours and get him to rest. He is going to be right back where he was if he doesn't. (I got that lecture yesterday at the PCP's for a sinus infection)

Sandy, when you get done the laundry I have more for you to do!

Finn good luck this weekend!!! :hug:

I am going to a MS seminar with RW this morning. Her Neuro is the guest speaker so I am sure we will have a blast. She saw him yesterday and told him we were going to be there. He told her "that we have to behave."

It is still foggy, rainy and damp here in the northeast but still suppose to be near 60.

Have a great day and I will do my best to check up tonight.

FinLady 11-08-2008 08:09 AM

Good morning all :) Another day, a new thread, and cup of coffee in hand. :D

No purchases of art yet, which is ok and understandable. Still having fun, and got a lot of compliments. I'll upload later the one I haven't posted anywhere yet. It's another sunset/silhoutte painting which has a cottage in it. Everyone keeps saying, "I wish I lived there" :)

Fatigue hasn't been too, too bad. Seems like the supplement I'm taking helps. LOL. I can't spell it without the box in front of me. It begins with an "A" and I've heard other MS'ers talk about it.

Have a great day all. :grouphug:

~~~~~~~~
Renee, Cool news about being bug free. :Dancing-Chilli:
Char, Hope you have a blast at the seminar
Momma, mmm. Brunswick stew sounds good, and so does the Candy! ;)
Twink, Glad your Christmas shopping is almost done. Want to help me with mine, LOL. I haven't even started yet. :D
Deb, :hug:
Kay, know what you mean. Those little skeeters will bite me through my clothes. My hubby jokes that they leave him alone when I'm around since I'm sweeter than he is. :D
Vonn, LOL! love that insight
Sandy, At least you got some stuff done. :)
NaeNae 11-08-2008 09:42 AM
I am feeling better the spasms have been a nightmare and I told Sandy and noone else I fainted at work on Wed. But I think I am on the mend. I have not even started Christmas shopping yet, for some reason I am just not even in the mood for the holidays and yet here they are just around the corner! Today I am cleaning and doing laundry UGH
barb02 11-08-2008 09:52 AM
Good Morning! It is cold here, and I am still in my pj's. I have just been reading a book by Julia Glass, called I See YOu Everywhere. She wrote a book called The Three Junes that I really like, although it was sad. This one is about the relationship between two sisters.
I don't have much planned for today. I should go to the post office if I get dressed before noon.
Jenn, I imagine that people are buying less art these days. but it great that you are getting some positive reactions. So when you have the time, will you get out the box and let me know what supplement you are trying? Please:Thanx:
Char, have a good time today!
Sandy, I did think that you needed a little excitement (the good kind) in your life last night.:Dancing-Chilli:
Momma, I don't think I have ever eaten Brunswick stew. In fact I do not know what's in it. What kind of candy do you make?
To Kelly, Frank, Deb D, Deb, Vonn,soxmom, Wiz, Twink, Kay, Renee, and anyone else that I am missing :Wave-Hello::You-Rock::Heart::OuttaHere: Have a great weekend!
SandyC 11-08-2008 11:13 AM
Morning! I am down to two loads of laundry left to dry!!!! Whoohoo! Chris may be coming home after his PE Assessment test up north. Please say a little prayer that he does well because he has to pass this test to start student teaching.
After I finish the laundry I plan to bag up the garbage downstairs and haul it upstairs. I also have an old power wheelchair that I need to get up here before next week. We have a friend coming to get it and fix it up for someone in need. Maybe Chris and I can haul it up once we take the batteries out of it.
That's about it. Hugs and well wishes to everyone!
Twinkletoes 11-08-2008 12:11 PM
Honey-Do day!
I have my DH all day long to help me! :Excited: And boy, do I have BIG plans!
Our goal is to get the dining room/kitchen area ready to repaint and refloor before the new countertops arrive (hopefully just before T-giving). Then we get to learn how to tile the backsplash.
Then we can put the house up for sale! (Moving a few blocks to live with my Dad).
So I've been cleaning out my cabinet full of piano music so we can move it out of the room. I marvel how much stuff I've collected!
DH is supposed to be getting the shutters taken down so we can paint them before bad weather sets in tomorrow.
Sandy, sounds like you'll be done before me, so I'm still saving my laundry for you, lol! ;) Nice that you are giving a second life to that W/C.
FinLady, I should be available right after thanksgiving to help you with your shopping. BTW, my license plate is BN2SHOP (Born to Shop). Women "get" it, but men think it says, "Been to the shop" (as in repair shop).
Yabbit, you and RW "behaving"? Hahahaha! Her neuro is way too optimistic! Hope you have a great time!
NaeNae, I'm so sorry that you fainted at work. :hug: Wow. No wonder you're not in the Christmas shopping mood. You take it easy, okay?
Pediculosis, hehe, I just looked it up! :rolleyes: Momma, I know zakly what you mean about extra poundage. Why do I keep eating after I'm full?
Barb02, I'm still in my PJs too. I really DO get dressed daily, but I'm never in a hurry to do so. PJs are just so darned comfy! I HATE to harness up the "team." Ugh.
Kelly, thanks for your very kind PMs. :hug:
FinLady, I hope your art starts moving. Maybe put big red bows on it to remind folks how great it would look under the tree.
Kay, how is the weather there? Paloma is a huge storm -- I hope you avoid the fiercest winds. Be safe :hug:
Hugs to Vonn, Frank'sAngel, Wiz, et al. :hug:
Okay, break is over! Time to get moving.
I hope everyone has a pain-free and productive day.
yeahbut 11-08-2008 02:25 PM
RW and I had a great time as usual! We were very well behaved! We both got some good information, I am glad I attended and always great to spend time with RW!
Now I am working on crochetting some mittens for a friend's kids I met at school. It was funny I told her to draw their hands and I would make them each a pair. Well, she came with her two childrens and a friend of her's 3 kids also! She brought with her a bag of yarn so I guess that is a good trade off!
Have a good afternoon. DBF asked me last night if I wanted to go out for Sushi tonight for dinner so that will be nice. Closest thing to date we have had in years!!! :D I will take it!
hollym 11-08-2008 02:29 PM
Could everyone say a quick prayer for my 11 year old Boston Terrier named Sierra? She is sick and I'm worried we will lose her. She was coughing up blood this morning and we took her to the vet. They think it is pneumonia and we are hoping and praying that the antibiotics fix her up. That dog has become my Grandma's best friend since she moved here. It would crush her to lose that dog.
We were all crying this morning because we didn't know if we were going to be bringing the dog back home with us, but we did for now. If she gets worse, we have to take her to an emergency vet hospital.
DM 11-08-2008 02:47 PM
Hey All!
holly: Sorry to hear about your poochie and sure hope she recovers. My two doxies are getting old and it scares me to think of~~~ . :(
It's bleak and nasty here in Toad Hollow and I'm hunkered in for the day.
Hope you all are doing well. :grouphug:
ewizabeth 11-08-2008 03:07 PM
Part one.
Afternoon everybody!! :grouphug:
Momma,
Your stew sound delicious! Think you'll have any leftovers? :wink:
Renee,
Thank God the bugs are gone. Our sons had that in grade school and it was tough to get rid of them, I don't envy you the job of having that problem with a little girl with long hair.
Deb,
I hope you can get Frank to rest, for his sake and yours! :hug:
Frank,
Mind your wife please? :hug:
Twinks,
I'm glad you're moving in with your Dad. :hug:And congrats on getting your shopping done! :eek: I haven't even begun to think about it!
Vonn,
Mae West was sure an attention-getter in her day, wasn't she? :D
Sandy,
Good for you on getting your laundry finished, and I said a little prayer for Chris. :hug:
Kay,
How are the little chicklets today? And your miffed goose, is he being a good boy?
HK,
Your kitties must be real snuggle bugs. Our Rocky sure is. He sits on both our laps, and he's only two years old! I haven't had such a snuggler for a kitty before!
Char,
I'm glad you and RW had a nice time this morning. :hug:
Finn,
I hope your day was good and I look forward to seeing your other painting!
ewizabeth 11-08-2008 03:24 PM
Part two.
Barb,
I'm in my sweats today and haven't gotten a thing accomplished yet, so you're in good company. :hug:
Holly,
I hope Sierra will recover from the pneumonia, especially for your dear Grandma's sake. :hug:
DM,
Have a good day in Toad Hollow! :hug:
My update:
I'm sitting at the computer since I got up. DH and I played with Rocky. A good kitty is a tired kitty, lol.
I should use the elliptical and take my shower soon. We're going to mass tonight so I can sleep late tomorrow too. I have a lot of things I should be getting done. I took the Provigil but still, here I sit. :rolleyes: Maybe I should turn off the computer, lol. :p
Have a great weekend everybody! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
CayoKay 11-08-2008 07:12 PM
hi everybody!!
I was off sulking, because this darn computer FROZE, just when I was about to break 16,000,000 on TextTwist (wah wah wah!)
today was Market at dawn, and a good haul of stuff for all my beebies.
yes, Wiz, Gandalf is still majorly peeved... Gwynneth walks with Connor, Larry (turned out to be a girl!) chose Moe, and Curly went to goose heaven, via a neighbor's oven...
and Glinda (Mother Goose) is busy-busy-busy, babysitting 3 dozen chicken babies... we can't tell WHAT gender Glinda is, as "she" mates with nobody... seems totally disinterested, lol!
so, where I had a PACK of seven geese that roamed together, now there's two singles, and two pairs... very strange, but mating season can do that.
we're desperately seeking new blood for our flock, but geese are HARD to find around here... the one place way way down south has been inaccessible since Tropical Storm Arthur (lol, they're named the Funny Farm!)
Belize news, we're still a "disaster area" but the flooding is finally receding, thank heavens....
Twink, it looks like Hurricane Paloma is going to head north of us, but it's hard to tell, it's so huge... we'll probably only get feeder bands, and more rain (which we really DON'T need right now!)
I'm praying for the people of the Caymans and Cuba.
A new record for the hurricane season of 2008
This year is now the only hurricane season on record in the Atlantic that has featured major hurricanes in five separate months. (snip) This year's record-setting fivesome were Hurricane Bertha in July, Hurricane Gustav in August, Hurricane Ike in September, Hurricane Omar in October, and Hurricane Paloma in November. Paloma is now the second strongest November hurricane on record in the Atlantic.
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/Jef...?entrynum=1151
ooops, dinner's ready, gotta go, will finish later.
FRANK, get some friggin' REST, dude, and remember how MUCH you love the hospital, that should help you work a wee bit less...
:hug:
sabimax 11-08-2008 07:58 PM
yes frank rest enough to not have to visit hospital at all in near future....hehe
hugss all...
Just busy working, and laundry and life....been taking the neurontin once a day, not the three....seems to keep the tingling pain at bay...but also dont feel those wierd spells of downness (is that a word lol)...so woohoooo
Colder today, but cant complain been having some decent temps for oct/beginning of nov....for this area...
well going to shower and maybe get to bed, and read a bit....hugsss,sarah
weegot5kiz 11-08-2008 08:48 PM
I'm trying to rest I really am, ok well sort of, Fin understands what I mean:D:rolleyes:
Ok you are all family as far as I am concerned, so you all can deal with this lol just kidding, I figure I could toss this out here and see what happens. I have been contemplating part time work, but herein lies my problem what can I do, that i am not walking a lot, standing a lot, using my eyes a lot, too hot, too cold, that pretty much leaves me ???
I recently got into a conversation with some lady at a docs answering service, on the phone, yeah I'm one of those weirdos I talk to everyone, any who turns out she has MS also and finding work was very hard but the answering service she said she can stand sit stretch its part time its indoors no weather issues, Just wondering any one else got any ideas on what direction I can look, I mean I have real good phone manners and a good voice for phone service or so I have been told before, and or if anyone has had a job like this at an answering service,
I got to do something, yeah my debs gonna get PO'ed about this post, sorry girl. Just been thinking a lot going to call a service that helps folks like me(weirdo) lol helps folks with disabilities and handicaps to find work, I never knew I could miss my old job, a job I had come to despise, I now long to be able to saddle a bag and walk my keister off and mis-delivery the mail:yikes:
hope all of you had a pleasant saturday, Kay glad you are not obsessed :eek:with the game lol 16 mill cool thats really scary lol seriously that is real good, they got any game shows down in Belize?
you all have a great night and wonderful Sunday
we're heathenish, and don't do Christmas shopping... save a lot of money that way...
:D:wink::D
seriously, I wear "armour" outside, long sleeves, long pants, etc. but de mosquitos got me anyway, I have bites on my NECK (vampire mossies?), and a dozen bites on my hands... sheesh, they're BAD this year, and being numb doesn't help much... I never feel a thing, until later.
and I do all my exposure indoors, safely... I promise!
:cool::o:cool:
the housepest has gone off the radar, nobody's heard from her since she left here... and now I'm torn between wondering, worrying, and relief.
:p:confused::p
NaeNae... so GLAD you're not lousy anymore... how's littly Livvy's new haircut? does she mourn the loss of her curly locks?
Frank, again with the reminders... from a gal who KNOWS... work for shorter bits, rest more, and stay warm in bed with a book (use a clip-on book-reading lamp if the light bothers our AngelBabyGirl), INSTEAD of getting up and going online... you'll get back to sleep faster that way... it works for me, try it!
FinLady 11-08-2008 10:38 PM
Barb, ok dug out the box for you. I'm taking Acetyl-L-Carnitine. Took about a week for it to start having any noticeable effect - one of which is don't take it after 11 am. ;) It helps take the really bad edge off this fatigue without all the wacky reactions I got from the prescribed anti fatigue meds. Still get tired and can still over do, but have noticed a difference.
Renee, sorry to hear about the scare at work. Hope things get better soon. :hug:
Kay, hope the storm passes you guys by. Stay safe. :hug:
Frank, If you think you can do it, it's worth a shot. Definitely talk it over with Deb. I know, for me, answering the phone became the hardest part with my old job with the cog fog hitting at the most inopportune times. I've speculated going back to another part time gig, but hubby has stressed that he doesn't want me to get that ragged again unless I have to.
Holly, Sorry to hear about the puppy. Prayers being sent. :hug:
Char, Glad you had a good time at the seminar.
Everyone, :grouphug::grouphug:
~~~~~~

No sales, but that's alright. Kinda figured it might happen. Got a lot of good reactions, information, and advice tho. Also have a juried show that I've been pointed towards that I'll submit stuff to here soon. Have a few things to finish up for other stuff, so crossing fingers I can get all this stuff done this coming week.

uploaded the new pic to my albulm. It's a little fuzzy, but I took four pics and the others were more blurry than that one.

ewizabeth 11-08-2008 11:38 PM

I like the new picture you added Fin. :)

CayoKay 11-09-2008 08:16 AM

mornin' Frankie-me-boyo!

been pondering your dilemma, (to go back to work, or not...)

and I desireth muchly to share a wee bit o'wisdom, garnered over 2 decades of living with this charming companion we call MS.

but first, I have to ask, is it a need of yours to have fulfilling things to do daily, a meaningful contribution to society... a sort of a personal need?

or is your desire to work more based on a financial need, to contribute to your family?

because it makes a difference.

I know you're worried about Deb working herself to the bone and all, and also, it's hard to run a family on the pittance we get from SS or retirement.

I don't know much about your living situation, but is it possible to create a small truck garden, and get a few laying hens?

that way, your work is more flexible, and you're still contributing to the family... with something tangible and edible.

many neighborhoods are removing restrictions on backyard livestock, due to the economic crunch, and people's need for healthier, more local food.

the restrictions are usually under 6 hens, and NO roosters (lol!)

the nice thing about backyard livestock is how little they really need, you're a do-it-yourselfer kinda guy, and you can slap something together with scraps, for a coop, and nestboxes... (lol, my pal in Arkansas even got surplus AMMO boxes, and used them for the hens...) pallets, wooden crates, whatever... they're happy, with whatever you manage, as long as it protects them from wind, rain, and snow.

feeders can be made from scraps as well, and even crafting supplies, no need for fancy "bought" feeders and waterers.

and the work is spread out in BITS over the day, so you can rest...

anyway, for all I know, you live in a city apartment, but even there, you can still grow food on the roof, or the balcony, and again, it's good because the work is broken up into small bits... no need to wipe yourself out TRYING to do a whole day's work.

I know, I tried (with the SSDI assistance programs) to go back to work twice since I retired in '93.

it never worked... because I'd FORGET, and feel almost normal again, but I'm not, and never will be... I can go in spurts, when the energy's there, but the drag and toll of driving somewhere, getting showered, dressed, oh, just too much on enough days... to make it impossible.

there's always home-based businesses, everything from stuffing envelopes, to part-time home-daycare... for just one or two kidlets... whatever it takes to supplement the family income with a little urgently-needed cash.

anyhowitzer (to steal a lovely term from our Moose-Dude), keep thinking, and keep your mind open to possibilities, but mainly, look for home-based stuff that's under the radar (so to speak), because doing the paperwork to get BACK on disability can be just as taxing as work, and they get really strange about it ("You proved you COULD work, now get back to WORK!")

:D

good luck with your search, and here's a :hug:

weegot5kiz 11-09-2008 09:08 AM

that's been one of my concerns is the messing up of disability, I was told I could make x amount without interfering with my disability, but, well honestly i don't trust the post office and i don't trust the govt so, I am hesitant to even attempt it, but cash flow is killing us here, we are trying a couple other angles still , possibly food stamps and help with the electric and gas from liheap will be just what we need to keep me here for the kids and not messing my disability or ms up any more, im sure some of this has to do with running into a couple guys from work, and all i can think about is how much better off we were when I was working, this is slowly tearing me apart inside, I was raised old fashioned this is my job to take care of everyone here, and I cant it sucks,

so hows the java girl mine is brewing as we speak, so ya got to send me a link to this game you play I wants to try it and see how poorly i can do

Blessings2You 11-09-2008 09:15 AM

Hey, Frank, I hope you can figure something out that satisfies both sides of your conundrum. I found out that, once I retire on disability, I'm "on disability" for the rest of my life. So...does that mean if I take a part-time job as a Walmart greeter (there's an idea for you) when I'm 80, somebody from the OIG is going to pop out from behind a display of cookies and yell "AHA! You're able to work!"

weegot5kiz 11-09-2008 09:21 AM

thats what im and pretty sure deb is concerned with too, and my other fear is lately believe it or not I have been pacing myself what happens if i am working 3 5 days a week 3 -6 hrs a day, im afraid it will be too much, even the gtg buds will say yeah i was alert, should be was on 60 mg of roids, but i could of napped just as easily as Jim did, and felt very much like it too so yeah i am worry about getting the slap on the wrist carp a dm and can i actually do it:Bang-Head:

Vonn07 11-09-2008 09:32 AM

hey Frank .. you sound like me ... and like Kay says "staying under the radar" is a tough act - but, you can do it ...

and because of your little campouts at the hospitals (these would be considered exasperations or flares) ... keep a journal about all this when filling out the paperwork .. do they want to deal with you having to be on breathing apparatus to keep their job??

tomorrow is Monday - call your County seat and ask to speak to someone that deals with the resource center for the 'aging and disability' ... this will get you in the door for foodstamps, and 'direction' on applying for heat assistance - sometimes you can go directly thru the power company - sometimes thru the county ...

foodstamps (here in Wisc) is pretty slick - it works like a debit card .. with a pin number and and 800 number to find out the balance etc .. it's less evasive than it was with the 'paper' money they used in the past ...

and work on your poetry - and publish it ... here's an idea ... start your own blog ... and start with your poems ... when you have about 25 or so - contact a publisher ... and you can start small, printing them yourself and selling the booklet online via your site (I have all the punching and plastics to hold it together) ... did I get you thinking??? (yes, yes - I'm preaching to the choir) .. ;)

Good morning everyone!

Well, it's finally cooled off here in GA. Going to be in the 50's today. Finally!! :rolleyes:

Frank, be careful of any "work at home" deals you come across. Some of them are just out to take your money. I think you can make up to $900 or $950 a month before SS says anything to you. Something done from home would be ideal, though, 'cos you don't have to deal with getting up and dressed....you could work in your jammies!

Can you type? Now there's a stupid question....look at your post count!! :o What I was thinking was this....our county paper has all the Legal announcements published in it once a week (foreclosures, divorces, adoptions, name changes, etc.) and they have a team of people who do nothing but type and proof these listings. I know of a couple of them who work from home and email their work in. I'd love to do something like that but these jobs don't open up too often and when they do there is already a waiting list of people ready to take them. But, it's something you could look into.

Maybe contact your county's library. Maybe you could do some sort of work for them....it's quiet (or supposed to be) and there's probably something you could do sitting down.

I know how you feel, though. On the days that I feel somewhat "normal" I want to do something productive so badly. But that little voice in the back of my mind keeps telling me not to get used to it 'cos the fatigue will slap me down when I'm least expecting it to. Oh well, I'll take the good days as long as I can get them. :)

Good luck to you....I hope you can find something. :hug:

Frank, hope that things will work out for you and Deb. You've gotten a lot of cool advice. :hug:

~~~~~~~~
Morning all. :) Knew it last night when I got home, but yep - pushed just a little too hard when it came to the show. Survived, very worth it, but very tired and wobbly this morn. LOL, the "pay to play" program is still in effect. :D
So glad hubby drove me there and back yesterday, so that was one less thing that I had to do. I can still drive safely, but good grief it makes me so tired sometimes. :( That is probably one of the things that drives me nutty when I think about it. I know why it causes me to be so tired - constant movement and having to be aware at all times.
So today I'm just going to tackle some laundry and some dishes. With lots of breaks in between. And coffee. ;)
Hope everyone has a great day. :grouphug:
Morning everyone! Not much going on today. I will probably do some cleaning of the kitchen and living room. Jim's going to watch the Bears and play his xbox game. He stopped the Sinemet and feels like a million dollars compared to the nausea and yuck feeling the "cure" was giving him. His doctor never called Friday so we made the executive decision to stop it and was wise to do so. His appetite is back and he feels much better. Sometimes the "cure" is worse than the spasms you know? I started him on valium, 10mgs, three times a day until we talk to his doctor Monday. I am not sure how his doctor will feel about this but I am going to tell him I respect him so much but Jim comes first. ;)
I pray for all of you to have a restful Sunday. I was up last night watching God versus Satan on the history channel. It covered Judaism, Christianity and Islam beliefs of Armageddon. I missed the first part and plan to tape it on the 16th when it airs again.
Frank, you've been given some good advice. One question I have is do you know what your rated at on SSDI? When Jim first started (early 1990's), he was rated 50%, then 75%, then 100%. With each rating his SSDI went up. Maybe check on that and if your rated below 100% maybe get a re-eval from your doc to get it raised up some? Just a thought.
:grouphug: to all!
Isn't this funny?
