Frank is it SSI or SSDI? They are different programs.

Copied from SS:
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who have limited income and resources. SSI benefits also are payable to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits

The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program pays benefits to you and certain family members if you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes. Your adult child also may qualify for benefits on your earnings record if he or she has a disability that started before age 22.

Just curious if they are filing you in the right program. :hug:

Vonn07 11-09-2008 12:35 PM

Frank... keep ASKING for the SSI ... because you didn't ASK for this disease ... and would love to work, but the disease is holding you up!!

ask them if they had a disease, would they look at it differently??

you didn't commit a crime to be where YOU are at ... YOU are an American and are being discriminated for it ... fight fight fight ...

hollym 11-09-2008 12:36 PM

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts / prayers for my dog. She is hanging in there. She seems pretty peppy today so I hope things are looking up.

I'm heading out of here in half an hour to meet our Joelle and Wkikta at Bravo so I have to get moving. I woke up with a stomach issue, so I really hope they have some soup I can handle. I can hardly wait to meet Joelle. I have met Bill a couple of times before at MSW get togethers and it will be nice to see him again.

Sandy, I may be wrong but I believe what he's saying is that he's on a disability program through his employer. It's not affiliated with SSI or SSDI.

Frank, if I'm wrong just slap me upside the head....http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...mallet_hit.gif

She's right Frank and you can get one that doesn't take their cut until after your approved and/or they work through SS and it is free. You may have to pay back to your disability pension but it should only be if your SS is higher than your disability. Can you tell I went through this with my mom? lol

weegot5kiz 11-09-2008 12:49 PM

Ive got a case started two years now binder and binder, just have not figured how when I get the settlement(see thinking positive), but when it comes lawyer and lawyer get 33% and I have to repay pension, ok how in the heck am I gonna do that i have no clue, by time i get approved i will be approve for medical too so half a dozen of one and 6 of another:Bang-Head:

barb02 11-09-2008 01:28 PM

I do not pay social security taxes; I pay into the state retirement system. Therefore, I can receive disability now if I cannot work, and disability retirement when I am 55 if I am no longer working. Most state workers do not also qualify for SSI of SSDI. I think the same is true for federal workers depending on how long you worked for the post office. The amount of money you receive is number of years worked and income.

weegot5kiz 11-09-2008 01:35 PM

no post office workers are not in same catagory as federal workers

SandyC 11-09-2008 01:57 PM

Just got a call from Nik, my youngest. He has mono and has to miss a week of school. He'll probably come home. Poor thing, I was telling him he probably just had a bad case of the flu.

weegot5kiz 11-09-2008 02:21 PM

that sucks tell Nik IM sorry and get some rest cause if its mono and he doesnt rest that can knock you for a loop, big time

Blessings2You 11-09-2008 02:29 PM

Postal employees are feds, but some of us are under the FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) and are eligible for Social Security benefits also, and some of us (me) are under the CSRS (Civial Service Retirement System) and are NOT also eligible for Social Security benefits.

The whole thing is so complicated, I get dizzy just looking at the pile of papers. Anyone who doesn't already feel sympathy for Frank should do so now.

I have applied for Disability Retirement through CSRS. I don't have any communication with Social Security all, except to deposit Bob's check after he signs it.

He asked if he could stay in his dorm room and his hall director said go home. He's more worried about missing school and tests and I told him they will let him make it up. He said he hasn't felt the fatigue part. Then he asked me if I wanted him to stop and get soup? I told him no.

Doesn't every parent have chicken noodle soup in their cabinets for such emergencies? :D

Jim will be Ok since he's had mono. Me? I don't know since I was never tested but I did have "walking pneumonia" and "swine flu" as a child. Think I am safe?

Blessings2You 11-09-2008 02:41 PM

My granddaughter is also recovering from that infamous freshman disease. We were told that adults rarely "catch" it from teens, since almost all of us have the Epstein-Barr (sp?) virus kicking around our bloodstreams somewhere from our past and are immune.

That's what I read so I am sure I'll be OK. I also read since Jim had it he could have passed it to me even if he didn't have symptoms because it remains in your system forever.

Nik said he feels like he has a STD and has to call the girls he's kissed in the past 4-6 weeks. :p

weegot5kiz 11-09-2008 03:09 PM

They will let him make it up last thing a big U wants is mono running through the school, no don't feel sympathy for me I got my disability, so at least i got something coming in, still waiting for news on your situation BTY:hug:

The knuckle head posted on Facebook he has mono! I guess that takes care of letting the girls know! :rolleyes:

Kitty 11-09-2008 03:25 PM

Ughh....I had mono when I was 18. It really knocked me for a loop. I was extremely tired. I'd sleep 20 out of 24 hours. It took me about 6 months to finally feel normal again. Apparently I had an extreme case of it.

I hope Nik gets better soon. Hopefully he has a mild case.

sabimax 11-09-2008 03:39 PM

I didnt know Sandy that once you have had mono you cant get it again?? did I read you right about Jim not because had it???

well never had it here....but anyhow...hugsss to Nik just not too too close haha

well home from work, tired out, but ok...it snowed a bit today..none collected but keeps coming and going....

I have to run out to pick up two of the kids...hubby dropped them at the theater on his way to work for them to see a movie...and I will pick them up.

Well gotta get going...hugss to all..

frank...think a LOT before you move towards working....I know money...but I am falling apart due to working and cant work less hours due to money...and no help disability wise...heck I dont even have a dx....anyhow....

think about ideas..and how they affect your disability first...sounds like you are thinking thru it all already..good luck hun...

hugss to you all....thinking of you all, sarah

barb02 11-09-2008 05:22 PM

Sandy, Sorry to hear about Nik. How many girls did he kiss:eek:? LOL! Make sure his roommate(s) are tested too.

Plus, we professors often are a skeptical bunch. We have so many students with mono, strep, and with "dead" grandparents during exam time.:rolleyes: So tell Nik to email all of his professors to tell them he is going to be missing tests, etc. He should also get a notice from Health Services and a note from his Resident Director when he gets back that he can use for documentation. If he is going to miss more than a week, you should probably notify the Vice President of Student Services.

There, I think I have covered everything.

I have finished grading papers -- now I have exams to read. Maybe!

SandyC 11-09-2008 07:05 PM

That's a great idea Barb! Thanks! He has emailed all of his professors and waiting for their reply. he shouldn't have any issues since he's an above 4.0 student but you never know. hahaha And it was only two girls. His ex and a girl from last week. lmao

Sarah, yes, it's true. Once you have mono you shouldn't ever have the sick feeling again. However, you can be a carrier the rest of your life. If it becomes active you wont have symptoms but you can pass it on to others. No wonder there's so much mono to go around!

Nik is home and laying in bed. He took two Tylenol 3's and his throat is better. Hmmm, you think? I made him soup and he's tucked in. I also gave him strict instructions on using the two towels I gave him only and to use paper towels in the bathroom when he washes his hands. I also propped a huge bottle of hand sanitizer between his room and the bathroom. haha

Jim's doctor said to not let Nik go near Jim to be safe and to make sure I wash my hands when near him and not to touch anything he touches. :eek: Get this, I was standing in the room with Nik and the ceiling fan is going. He coughs without covering his mouth fast enough and I just stared at him. He smiles that cute boyhood smile and said sorry. :rolleyes: They say when a person coughs it comes out of the mouth at 60 mph. Add a ceiling fan and I was smacked with it. :yikes:

Kitty 11-09-2008 07:16 PM

LOL Sandy.....boys...:rolleyes:

When mine were sick I'd tell them to flush their kleenex instead of putting them in the waste basket.

I also changed the bed linens and pillow cases every day. I know...it's a pain but it keeps the germs away. I also sprayed their pillows with Lysol while the pillow case was off.

Oh, and I used plastic cups that could be thrown away instead of glasses and ceramic cups.

:o :o

Yeah.....I was a germaphobe!! But they never stayed sick long! :p

barb02 11-09-2008 07:23 PM

I love it when students come to my office to tell me that they are too sick to come to class, and then they hand me a paper that is due. I keep lots of hand sanitizers in my desk.

Blessings2You 11-09-2008 07:32 PM

Yeah, like the customers that come in and count out a pile of coins into my hand, then tell me they've had diarrhea all day. :eek:

FinLady 11-09-2008 07:36 PM

Hand sanitizer is a necessary item for cash handlers. Used to keep some by my cash registers when I worked in retail. :rolleyes:

FinLady 11-09-2008 08:12 PM

Just worked it out with my family. It's official and we're being invaded for Christmas. Now to begin planning. :)

Vonn07 11-10-2008 01:29 AM

hey ... hiya all ...

I mentioned 'relocating' to a friend ... and she emailed me back with the question:

the only place where I've been happiest is when I spent 4 days in Alaska alone in fall of 2004 ...

I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in the car.....and I tell the boys to do it, too, although I highly doubt they do. Whenever I pump gas I immediately do the "sanitizer thing" afterwards. People just don't realize how filthy those gas pump handles are!!:vomit2:

Sox we both posted at same time Hello :hug: and you have my prayers, having gone through this with Deb, you have both our prayers and wishes for a clean exam:hug:

hollym 11-10-2008 09:07 AM

Kelly - The GTG was great. I just wish I had been feeling better. I am usually a little more lively. I still don't really feel well, but it was great meeting her and seeing Bill again. He is a wealth of information regarding drugs and local MS functions. He also always has fabulous photos of his dive trips.

I think my DH got bored toward the end and was thinking about the Steeler game. Then her DH text messaged her about picking her up before he missed much of the game, so we had to end our little luncheon. Joelle has the pics on her camera, so you will have to wait to see them until she gets back to Florida.

Thanks for asking about the dog, too. She really seems like she is bouncing back. I really hope she will continue to improve.

tkrik 11-10-2008 09:13 AM

Gone for the weekend and look what happens, a whole new thread to catch up on. LOL.

Sandy - Hope Nik starts feeling better. Just something to think about . . .A couple of years ago both DDs had mono. DD17 faithfully drank a vitamin drink Emergen-C twice a day. DD18 didn't. DD17 recuperated far quicker and with out lasting effects than DD18. Prior to mono, DD18 was able to fight off anything within a few days, now it takes her a lot longer not to mention that she suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome. It may be worth considering having Nik do this. You can buy it at Walgreen's.

Vonn - Some times it was not the physical place that made us happiest, it is what was going on in our lives that made us happiest. Keep that in mind also.

Frank - Yesterday, I did yard work and landscaping, cleaned a 1700 square foot home including washing walls, baseboards, windows, etc., did 6 loads of laundry, made cookies, went for my 30 minute walk, and did grocery shopping. What advice would you give me? REST and DON'T overdo it.

Ok, so I really didn't do all of that yesterday but I think you get my point. Follow that advice - REST and DON't overdo it. Give yourself some time to heal. Resting is one way of helping our bodies healing.

Fin - You're being INVADED? lol How fun to have everyone with you during Christmas.

Hi to everyone else.:hug::grouphug:

~~~
Today, I am going to finish a couple of paintings that I started yesterday and straighten up my house. I went to DBF's for the weekend and DD18 stayed here with a friend of hers. I came home yesterday and my house looked like a war zone. OK, well not a war zone, but stuff was all over the place . . . clothes on the living room floor, makeup all over the counter in the bathroom, glasses all over, shoes not put away, etc. UGH!!! I was not happy to say the least.
DM 11-10-2008 09:14 AM
Good Morning all! WOW! It just took me like ''forever'' to catch up. Serves me right for being offline so much lately.
It is cold here, but sun is finally out. (25 degrees!!!) No snow yet and I wouldn't care if I ever saw any!
Frank~ I was reading about your concerns and I know that IL has a program called Circuit Breaker. A friend of my Mother's was on it and got RX's for $1.00 and heat cost reductions. I remember her saying that a few times a yr, they gave out certificates for getting groceries at the local store. That's all I really remember, and they could possibly have other discounts, but thought I'd mention it.
Kell~ Reread your first sentence in your last post!! I about fell off my chair LOL!!!!! You loose woman, you!!! :winky:
Take care everyone and hug yourself for me. :hug::grouphug::hug::hug::grouphug:
Sandy sorry to hear Nik has it. I just wanted to say I had Mono for 3 months 4 1/2 years ago. YES, adults can get it and when they do it is usually worse than a teenager. I was out of work from the end of April till the first of July. DBF brother had it twice so you can even though it is very unusual. Sandy I am sending you a PM also!
good luck! :hug:
You've got my prayers!
I had to have surgery years ago for an issue and I was pretty nervous about it. But, once it was over and I realized how good I felt (hadn't realized how much of an impact it was having on me till I had it fixed!) I was so thankful I had it done.
Just consider the hospital stay a very high priced hotel with bad service! :rolleyes: Seriously though, I hope everything turns out okay for you. I'll be thinking of you and praying. :hug:
weegot5kiz 11-10-2008 09:39 AM
oh i forgot to share how good the ten quarts of beef stew turned out, and the home made biscuits were so good with butter an honey on them, took all day to cook, did it on stove, the meat melted in your mouth yum,,,, guess whats gonna be for breakfast, hopefully the last biscuits with honey and butter:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Vonn07 11-10-2008 09:44 AM
hey Char .. like your 'bullwinkle' moose!!
Kelly - where I'd go in Alaska .. actually has the same jet stream weather path that comes thru Wisconsin (Zone 4) ... the only drawback is that for about 2 months - the days the sun rises around 10am .. and sets around 3pm ... I can get use to that ...
Frank - sorry .. no Sonics in Anchorage, AK ... but some pretty awesome fish stores!!
thanks, Tricia ... now you really have me thinking ... REALLY thinking!
UPDATE:
my lawyer sent me a 4-page MS questionnaire to have the doctor fill out on thursday - and sign and return ... I'm going to make copies, fill out a copy ... and go thru it with her - and then have her sign it so I can get it back to the lawyer for the hearing ..
gosh - I had to mark all the symptoms except: paralysis, blindness ... and even had to add a few: sleep apnea (only 4-5 hrs/night), stress, loss of appetite, no desire to eat, don't know if I'm full or not.
added some more pics to the quilted things that I made over the last few days!!
have a great day everyone!!
