Diagnosed with SFN.
Received my biopsy results today. It shows decreased nerve fiber density but morphology is normal. My questions is: how come there is less fiber density but no nerve damage?

That is what the damage itself is. Low density. Do you mind telling us your symptoms and how you progressed and if your diagnoses has no found cause? There are a few of us here including me who have SFN and it is idiopathic.

Some antibiotics cause PN... Flagyl (metronidazole and Tindamax) and
fluoroquinolones. Cipro, Levaquin, and Avelox. Antibiotics also upset the GI flora, so using a good probiotic and/or yogurt/kefir may help. Some people may need a Candida cleanse (NOW makes a good one). If you are eating sugar and lots of carbs, you have to stop this while doing a Candida cleanse as Candida grows on sugars. If you are drinking alcohol, you have to stop. This along with Candida makes aldehydes as metabolic byproducts, which damage nerves. |

You need to continue with supporting your GI tract.
Clindamycin is especially hard on the beneficial organisms. This is the NOW cleanse...I suggest you start it. http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Cand...andida+Support Taking some benfotiamine (or Thiamine daily) may help get rid of the aldehydes the Candida dumps into your system. 300mg a day of benfotiamine to start, or 300mg thiamine in divided doses for at least a month. You may see some improvement with that too. If your infection is ongoing, it too can make you sick. |
