PN and shoes
I was wondering how other pn sufferers handle the shoe thing.
I have been limited to short pants and flip flops for years now. I had to wear flip flops to my dads funeral. I dont remember other posters mentioning shoe wearing. I also think the flip flops are wrecking havoc on my legs and feet, due to crummy support. Any others out there that are limited in their footwear? |
I am an ex-surfer. And I wear only flip flops in warm weather and fur lined boots in Winter. I have trouble with my feet too. But try to find shoes that fit and are comfortable, yea right. :o

Target sells some quality slides, with a nice supportive base, for a low price.
I bought this one in the women's size...and I am wearing this one as I type. http://www.target.com/p/men-s-c9-by-...des+shoes+mens and this one which is adjustable across the instep (my really sore point).. http://www.target.com/p/men-s-c9-by-...des+shoes+mens I don't know if they have any left now though...but it is something to think about. I can't wear flip flops with the thingey in the big toe ...they hurt and drive me nuts. If your slide type is adjustable, you can wear thin socks with them too. I find this type allows for exercising the calves and they don't hurt my instep either. |
Hi surfer00
There was a thread a while back about shoes for neuropathy. Here's a link to it: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread217154.html |
I'm not allowed to wear sandals or anything open-toed at work, but I finally found a shoe that I can stand for 8 hours on my feet...Skechers Go Walks. I still take them off as soon as I get in the car to drive home, but they're the most comfortable shoes I've found. They come in sportier and also slip-on models, and are extremely light-weight. I have three pair of the tie kind, and also just bought a pair for golf.

Naot is really the only brand I can use besides flip flops which aren't good for my back...I get Naot sandals. They're pricey, but I need them. |
Thanks everyone, ill look into your suggestions. I dunno though. I can't stand anything barely touching my feet, yet I know a lot of my pain now is from lousy footwear.

Have people with balance issues had issues with memory foam? My wife wanted me to try them but I had concerns about it.
I figured I could latch that thought onto this shoe thread, weave it in, lace it, if you will. Will you support that idea or arch your eyebrow in contempt? Too many puns? I am waiting for my son to fall asleep so I can sneak out of his room. Shadows have taken a good sleeper and thrown fear into the mix. Jon |
Feet
Finding shoes I can wear is a constant challenge.
Walking without shoes is just not possible. My feet are in too much pain to meet the floor, a walkway, or even the grass directly. My toes are so painful, I don't dare have them unprotected. I have advanced neuropathy in my feet -- and arthritis in my feet/ankles, etc. I have constant tendonitis in my feet and Achilles tendonitis as well, non-stop for the past 12 years. Very painful. :( I have found one type of Aasics sneakers I can wear for brief periods. A specialty sneaker- fitting store clerk took two hours of his time to fit me with the right shoe model and the best orthotic choice (for me) in the store. (They specialize in fitting runners/athletes. I took a chance they could help me and they did.) I wear hiking boots often, when outside in cooler weather. Fortunately, I live in a rural area and many people wear hiking boots often. Lots of LLBean influence here. The larger toe boxes help. I add orthotics. Inside the house, we often wear Crocs. Hardwood floors hurt my feet, too. I love Dexter's WalkMocs soles, which are attached to many styles of shoes made by Dexter. When the Dexter outlets had closed, I did not find them again for years -- They can be found at Payless sometimes. I am often asking nurses what brand of shoe they are wearing. They are happy to give me the model and the web sites where they order. :grouphug: DejaVu |

I would try memory foam insoles. I have memory foam area rugs in my bathroom to help to cushion between my feet and the floor. It helps so much! :) I had found a site where they add another 1/4 to the depth of shoes in order to allow for thicker insoles. I have since lost the link to the site. Will keep looking. :grouphug: DejaVu |
