I'm roasting a chicken
Greetings,
I'm roasting a chicken for the first time in more than a decade http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/party0002.gif (although I did cook a turkey once for Thanksgiving during that time. I have the oven set at 350. I think that the chicken will take 2 - 2.5 hours to cook. At least, that is what a web site said. I tried using the meat thermometer but it doesn't do right and won't be much use. I put some celery and onion in the cavity and brushed on a glaze of honey, soy sauce, and olive oil. And yes, I am a little bit hyperish :) -- first time in a million days -- I counted. :D Mari |
it sounds as if it will be delicious....I don't remember when I roasted a chicken or a turkey for that matter. Just don't stress yourself.

Sounds yummy! How was it? Last time I was manicky I cooked banana bread, turkey kielbasa in BBQ sauce and chicken. The bread didn't turn out so good.:(

I figured out to take the chicken out of the oven when I smelled burning
one hour and 20 minutes into cooking. I think that the glaze burned. Maybe the chicken inside is fine. Or maybe it is not cooked inside at all. Next time: Hello crock pot! I'm going to cool it on top of the stove a few more minutes and stick in the fridge to deal with tomorrow. Mari |
OOPS! I am sure it is still edible.
|
the sugary/honey glazes will burn before the meat gets done.
The recipe should have said to brush glaze on about halfway through baking time?? or turn down oven temperature?? My old oven used to run 25 degrees hotter than the actual temp that I set it at- so that might be what happened too. I know for glazes on ham you apply towards the end of cooking time. |
So what is the verdict on the poor chicken??? Edible? Only good for dogs?:D

Well I hope the chicken was not a total waste....
it sure sounded like it was going to be tasty.... we went to sub way for sandwiches for supper...it was yummy! After I had them put everything but the kitchen sink..it was huge! like a salad on a sandwich.... some days I am into cooking and mosst days am not... good for you for trying! WE have to keep trying.... bizi |
Hope it was good inside, maybe the temp was too high how many pounds was the birdy?, did you cover it?
I like the crispy outside if a cooked/burnt chicken....LOL Hugs, Nikko:hug: |

I learned something when I read your post. :) I never did the glazing thing before. Now I know. The recipe was about how long to cook. I made up the glaze "recipe" because I had some honey in the house. Earlier this evening I bought an oven thermometer to check if my oven temp is right. I once lived with an oven that was way off.
