This is new (to me)

I had to go wee wee, but could not go,
My gut said "yes", my wee wee said "no"

I was up in the night, to try and do it
My wee wee still let nothing go through it!

Now I'm wondering, is this at all bad?
The opposite is worse, and makes me so mad.

Are you serious, Cindy?

This is not good at all, and you can't leave it. You will need to be relieved SOON, or it very well could result in a UTI (which is very bad for us!).

You will need to get cathed!

BTW, this only happened to me once, and I was good by the morning. It's not necessarily a "permanent" symptom, but something that can not be left any length of time when it happens!!

cindy...have you gone yet?

a warm bath can help. kinda gross...but you can relieve yourself in the water. :o

i had a problem after my c-section with my son. went fine inthe hospital, but when i got home..i went almost 24 hours. NOT good.

You need to get to an urgent care or an ER now. I had that problem a couple of months ago but if I pushed really really hard I could get a little out. I went ot Urgent care and they gave me a medication to relax the bladder and I was able to urinate, no cath needed.

I think you have more to worry about than just a UTI, where does the urine go once the bladder is full?

Thanks everyone, it's coming a little at a time, I have a call in to the neuro so we'll take it from there.

Yappy, honey, bath+me= 911! It's a nocando!

I just need to get P.O.d!!!!!!!!:D

ETA: Hey! This just in, it's just out! I took some extra Zanaflex this morning and it seems to have helped. Neuro will call back with instructions from here.

Thanks, everyone, I've never had this before.

I was going to suggest an anti-spasticity med. I had this problem before and extra Baclofen helped. It seemed to be a massive bladder spasm or something. I was so glad it went away. I'm glad the Zanaflex helped you, but you should probably also consider a urology consult.

Awww, jeez Cin...I got back up, couldn't sleep, came in for a few minutes to see who was on and I see this!

So----

"I'm glad your wee wee is now open,
I'm sure you sat there full of hopin',

That something would come through there soon,
and then it happened before noon,

I promise not to give you grief,
I'm just glad you got relief!!!

( deleted verse- "get the doc to check this out, before we whack you in the snout!" )

:D

Let us know how it goes! ( or how you go!!)

DSD or detrusor sphincter dyssynergia is a common urinary symptom in MS and was one of my earliest symptoms. It means there is a lack of communication and coordination between the muscle that is suppose to relax to let urine out (urinary shincter) and the muscle that is supposed to contract to empty the bladder (detrusor). Zanaflex did help me but there are some others that work too...like Flomax. ;) Sometimes it requires self-cathing though.

If this is an acute new symptoms for you then you need to call your neuro, Cindy. If you have not emptied in more than 12 hours you need to do something emergently. :(

I guess it's better than being wet but it can get pretty annoying to spend so much of your day waiting for urine to come out. I did find that just sitting there and trying to relax and let it come out was sometimes more effective than pushing. Running water while you are sitting also helps a bit.

OY! If it's not one thing it's another.

Editing to add....Hurray! Glad the immediate crisis has passed. That happened to me very shortly after diagnosis and I was in big time pain!

Cindy, it sounds like your bladder is having spasms and not allowing you to push it through. Jim is taking Oxybutinin to relax the bladder. I hope they find something that works for you.

Now, you could always sit on the pot with your fingers under warm running water. Just saying. :-)

Jim said bending over while on the pot helped him too.
