Beds
Question for everyone. My bed is 11 years old, and it is definatley time for a new one. With my boyfriends RSD, is there a type of bed that will make him more comfortable? Sleep number bed, pillow top, any certain kind that will allow him to sleep at least a little better?

Hi,
This question will interest me. I have been sleeping on my boys bed when they aren't here. I cannot get comfortable at all on mine. The kids bought me a very nice thick mattress pad for Christmas and it still didn't help. I am ready for a new mattress. Ada |
hey there
I am also interested in the answer to this question. I barely get 3-4 hrs. sleep, and not always during the same time..so, I get up..never feeling rested. I hope someone has the answer:)
GREAT QUESTION:grouphug: Dew |
I hear a lot of talk about mattresses by Tempur.
I have been sleeping in a hospital bed for years (regular latex mattress). All other beds are far too low for me to get into or out of; this one can be set to a greater height. It's set at the height between a normal seat and a barstool. It's still difficult to get in and out of bed, but at least this bed helps a bit. I can automatically adjust the front and back of the bed (very nice when feet are swollen). I too barely sleep. I wake up every three hours or so if I sleep and I rarely feel rested. That's why I fall asleep throughout the morning (until noon and beyond) and even then I automatically nap (fall asleep) every few hours in the afternoon. It never stops. There are days where I go to bed between 6 and 8 PM, and I still manage to sleep until 2 the next day (with lots of awake time, intermissions). If I don't take my muscle relaxants before bed, I don't sleep at all, then I only manage to sleep about once every 2 days and my legs will be as stiff as hell! |
I have bought both a tempurpedic (foam) mattress and a sleep number bed. The foam mattress was ok..but we only kept it 2 years as it does tend after a while to not bounce back like it is suppose to:mad:. I now have a sleep number bed, and I have had it for almost 3 years. I LOVE it. :heartthrob::heartthrob: Depending on how my rsd is acting, I can make it softer or harder to sleep on. It has mad a big difference in the amount of sleep I get at night. My DH and I do not agree on the hardness/softness of a bed, and this is the one bed that makes up both happy. I will never give up my sleep number bed. They also have the best sheets for the beds. they have corner straps and special corners to make the sheet stay on thru all the tossing and turning you could think of. I have a king, and the sheets run about 180, but I get them when they go on sale for about 80. They last long and feel really nice to sleep on. Hope this helps.

Bed
Myself, I have had to move to the recliner. I do remember someone else talking about bed and they said the memory foam beds or even just a memory foam mattress will make all the difference in the world. I am very poor and cannot afford to make the change however as soon as I can save up:icon_rolleyes: I am going to try to get one for myself. One more thing, you are precious to look for something to make your husband more comfortable:hug:Mine just tells me I don't love him anymore, I wont sleep with him, and he assumes love is the amount of sex he gets.:Bang-Head: I can't do it anymore shoot I can't even lie down anywhere any more. If you have the money, it doesn't need to be the Temperpedic Bed, it just needs to be memory foam. The person I heard this from had tried the Sleep Number and it did not do the trick. I hope you get a lot of feedback so you can help your husband:Heart:That is love in my book!!
Hope this helps tjbird |
Bed
After reading all the posts that you have gotten sleep and RSD are a major issue for us all. Everytime I go to have a procedure or test, I always ask them if they have a spare bed I could have:D Needless to say I get some strange looks, but I would LOVE to get my hands on one.:Help: If any one can tell me how I might be able to get one, please let me know so I can get out of this recliner

Sleep Number Bed Is the Best
Quote:
We too tried the tempurpedic mattress, didnt work. Then we invested in the sleep number system. It is an investment, but one of the best we ever made. We have the king- since it has dual controls- I can have a very soft bed, as low as 15 if i am in a flare and my husband can keep his side firm. then this christmas my sisters gave us the dual control electric blanket. I have cold RSD- so know I can have my side on high, day or night and my husband can have his side off or on a more normal setting. Later we added the adjustable part of the bed. this is because I can not llift my own head. RSD in spine and my neck is very weak. so the abilitiy to raise the head of the bed has been a real benifit for me. In both getting in and out of bed and resting. Please remember to get a script for the bed from your Pain Management Doctor or Primary- some people will be able to have their insurance company pay.If not if you have the script, you are able to write all expenses for the bed off of your taxes. Also there is a medical discount from sleep number if you have a script- and you do not pay the tax which is significant- Ithink we got $500.00 off. Good luck to everyone- its a huge investment but so worth it. As Mary said, all of the products are excellent. Hope this helps you. CZ |
Thank you. I will go on their website and order a free dvd for my boyfriend to watch.

I have moved a lot and bought a few different beds and tried out many. To tell the difference I even tried ones that were way out of my price range just to see comfort wise. Really for me when I hurt a cloud would not feel comfortable but a few things I think you should think about. Also on a side not my friend who has similar condition has where she can sleep at one setting and her husband at another but I think it cost 10,000 but like the other poster said ask for an order.
Anyhow height of matress. Some were so insane high I had issues getting in and out. Also do you sleep on side, back, stomach. Matress toppers have helped me make a not so comfortable matress into a better and on some nights when I need something different to try to comfort me I add a comforter or my microfleece blanket on top of the sheets. It helps me. Good luck |
