Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum but not new to RSD. I got RSD when I had an achilles tendon surgery, in my left ankle, back in 2005. I also got a DVT in that surgery. I new something was wrong when my left leg was in plaster. I had had this surgery before and felt something wasnt quite right. I did my own research and when I went back to the ortho, asked him about it and he said " I thought you might have RSD but didnt want to tell you!"....That started the rounds of drs, along with the specialists for my blood clot.

So its now 2009, I forget the amount of drug changes that I have had, the amount of specialists I have seen and seem to be getting nowhere.
So I have had some troubles with my left wrist, I went and had some scans done and the ortho has found a cyst filled with fluid but also one cyst thats 1cm wide actually growing OUT from inside a bone in my wrist.

I am so scared about having a bone graft surgery on my wrist when it is on my bad side already. Has anyone else had major surgery when its NOT connected to the rsd???

Ive had rsd since jan ,,but probually concieved it last july during a arhtroscopic hip repair in july of last year,,,I then had a THR 4/13 of this year ,,and ive not been right since,,the exray shows the hip is in place but thats only an static picture,,its a pressed fit ,,so early loosening of the aceatubular would not be seen,,so either rsd has migrated to the hip or ive got a loose cup,,im due for a revision,but im puting it off hoping the pain will get to a tolerable point of healing,,I did not have a continous block,,thats where i went wrong,,if you decide to have the surgery,,talk with your dr and anthesis dr about running a continous block,,,,good luck,,and i will Lift you up a prayer,,,bobber,,pm me if you want to

Hi, I have been advised by those who are recognized to be the best doctors specializing in rsd in the world to avoid surgery at all costs unless it is an absolute emergence.. Hope this helps in your decision. cz

There is always a chance with every trauma (like surgery) that you will get a flare-up of RSD symptoms. I assume you mostly have the RSD in the leg/foot that had the tendon surgery. You fear that you could end up with RSD in your hand/wrist/arm and you are correct.

There is also the possibility that you will not get much in terms of increased RSD pain or location. I had a spinal cord stimulator installed, and did not get any RSD flare as a result. It is not guaranteed either way.

You will need to weigh the potential for an RSD flare against the expected relief from the orthopedic surgery. Sometimes you just need to do it, because you cannot continue the way it is. I am doing the exact same thing right now, contemplating having some screws removed from an old fusion in my foot. Will I hurt worse, or will I get overall relief?

Finally, be sure you get a surgeon and an anesthesiologist who are expert in RSD. You should have the right to question whether they have had experience with RSD patients. They can then take all of the precautions possible to assure the best outcome.
