honestly, nothing. I take my shirt off, or pants. NO FANS, a comfortable room, if i have to turn ac or heater on I do that.... Or I take a bath... Good luck... Take deep breaths and pray to our good Lord above

Time, taking off my sock, and trying to move as much as I can. For me when symptoms get high I tend to become stiff and still which in the long run makes things worse for me but you know it is a catch 22.

Heat/hot epsom salt bath works best for me. I have RSD in all 4 limbs and have found this to work the best. The 1st time it spread to the side of my face I automatically put a cool washcloth on and almost died! It is just hard to understand why heat helps the burn but i put a heat pack on and it helped. momof4

Topamax helps me with the heat and burn on the back of my neck and my head. I can immediately tell if I've missed a dose. I also take Cymbalta.
P.S. - I have "cold" RSD - the only burn I experience is in my neck and head. My extremities are often freezing cold, I wear 2 pairs of socks and gloves to bed and carry a heating pad and blanket everywhere I go in the house. So my symptoms might be the opposite of yours. Good luck Last edited by SandyRI; 02-23-2010 at 12:51 PM. Reason: added "cold" |

I do like Hannah, come out of my socks, clothes, and use a fan. I can't handle a cool bath so the warm water makes me worse.
Meds can cause the heat to be worse and sweating. Ada |

My closet contains almost all sleeveless and tank tops! I also live in my Birkenstock sandals. People look at me funny for wearing sandals in the rain, but just think... your feet dry faster indoors, and no wet socks . I do also have slip on "mule" style Birks, that I can wear when it is actually down to the 30s & 40s outdoors. I discretely slip off my socks and stuff them in my purse if I overheat when back inside, which allows me to try to regulate body temp. OH! My staple is ice-tea or ice-water. It has to have actual ice in it (otherwise it just isn't cold enough). Like many here, ice-packs can often cause pain, so cooling the body from the inside is fast, and doesn't hurt. The family has gotten used to mom changing outfits 3-4 times per day (I stack them and often re-wear for a couple of days, as sometime my temp changes after only 10 minutes, and as long as the clothes are fresh, no sense adding to my laundry load!).
Excellent post! I love to hear other peoples ideas!

Are you talking about RSD sweats or deep bone burning pain?
If it is the burning pain , I also find that Epsom baths work and believe it or not someone on this forum a while ago told me to wrap up in warm blanket! Now that sounded backwards to me but I tried it and sure enough it helped. I too have heating pads etc all over the house cause RSD is in foot and cannot wear shoes so feet freeze and burn at same time. Cymbalta has been a miracle for me with the burning too-Fondly-Carol |
