I had my left side wisdom teeth out two and a half weeks ago and am in EXCRUCIATING pain....
My dr added neurontin, tramadol, baclofen, celebrex, 6mcg of diladid every 3 hours, fetanyl patch-- and i still cant handle the pain. I had a ketamine infusion last thursday because thats what i get for my rsd pain and we thought maybe it would help with this and it didnnt even touch the pain... I have been twitching really bad and shaking from the pain. My dr is really concerned and has helped alot but I am wondering if anyone else has had this kind of horror with their teeth. My whole bottom and upper jaw all the way to the front is raw and i cant touch itl.... i brush it and just ball my eyes out because I know if I dont brush them I could get cavities and just make my teeth more unhealthy than they are now and I have always had really healthy teeth. Does anybody have any advice at all???? I have had blood taken for to make sure that I had no infection. And everything came back normal, I have had no fever, but just HORRRRIBLE HORRRIBLE pain. it goes from my throat area to my jaw up to my ear, my cheak and it hurts to put my hair in a ponytail because its pulling on some hairs... on that side of my head. I have never shook this bad or twitched this bad. It doenst feel like RSD pain though, its not burning in my mouth... but my rsd symptoms on my right side are worse until I had the infusion. The only thing I still have besides my normal rsd muscle achy pain is the bad twitching. am i making any sense? can someone help me? My mouth is so bad, I have no idea what to do. Its been 2 and a half weeks and I would have thought the pain would have gone by now |

Dear Hannah,
Is there some kind of block that is available for the face and head? Perhaps that would help? I'm so sorry, I don't know what else to suggest...especially since the ketamine didn't work, and infection has been ruled out. If the meds aren't working, I would caution against taking too many in an effort to gain relief. Once you get to a certain point, their effectiveness starts to wane and you're not doing yourself any good by just popping the pills. Another thought - have you tried methadone? Just 5 mg of methadone a few times a day worked wonders for my nerve pain last year when started to get really out of control. I had an an awful time with occipital pain in the back of my head. I will keep you in my prayers. Much love, Sandy |

Dear Hannah,
I read your post and I felt so helpless in trying to offer some help to you! I went to the RSDSA website and looked up RSD dentistry. There is an article written by a specialist ...he is a dentist and an anasthesiologist. His name is Louis Siegelman, DDS and he has a practice in New York City. He seems expertised in the special circumstances of dental care with people who have RSD. It could be helpful if your pain management doc or your dentist give his office a call for some guidance on how to help you! This is far too much pain for you to endure.. Keeping you in my thoughts and sending soft hugs, Hope4thebest |

Oh Hannah I am so sorry for this !!! Did they do extra anesthetics right before they finished? Were you out for the surgery? Did the Ketamine do any good? I am praying for you.

Hi Hannah, I am sorry for all of the pain and suffering that you are experiencing right now. It does sound as though it is definately related to the invasive procedure that you had done. I don't know if this is in relation or not, but I did have major surgery on my left foot five weeks ago, I was under anesthesia for six hours. I did experience some major pain in the mouth and throat area for about two weeks as well as my shoulder and neck and then it slowly got better. Possibly, it could be linked to the anesthesia or just the invasion of the surgery. Wisdom teeth can be nasty without rsd. I will keep you in my prayers and I do hope this calms down for you. Do watch the pain meds, my pain skyrocketed from the dilauded and I was only on it for two days and I had no blood pressure. Definately continue to seek medical advice so they can monitor you. Warm compresses helped too. God Bless, I do hope this passes for you.

I so appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers,,, Its taken me awhole to reply because im shaking so bad and I havent been able to type.
My mom called that dentist in new york, and he said it sounds like just excruciating pain post wisdom teeth and my rsd just flared it up and is causing all this pain in my mouth. And my pain dr said that the shaking and twitching is the rsd flared up because it has a muscular component to rsd being that I had my wisdom teeth out my rsd has flared to all the shaking and twitching. I had the ketamine infusion which saved my body from the burning but i still have the twitching and shaking. The dentist in new york said it is goin gto take months and months to go away but for sure under a year. Wendy: Yes they did give me extra anesthetic afterwards. He actually gave me ketamine during the surgery and then alot of extra afterwards. Apparently the anestesiologist is the best in LA/Beverly hills area. His name was Dr. andrew chen I think... His last name is chen for sure but i dony know about his first name Jeanie: I am watching the pain meds. We did ask the dr if that would cause a problem, but he said if we take you off all of them your RSD will flare up full force and we want to keep it as low of a flare as we could right now. It is not dry socket for sure. The dentist took an x-ray and as much as he could see in my mouth he said that its not dru socket. He told me a bunch of stuff but I cant remember anythin because im in so much pain I can barely remember anything let alone talk. AGAIN, THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR all of your time you put into replying. I cant type anymore as i am shaking and i had to have my sister type over half of this. I pray everyone has low pain and he comforts everything with all of their relationships with family and friends. Annah |
