Ugh, last night was a rough one. I was constantly awoken because my arms and hands kept falling asleep and were impossible to "wake up". They also were extremely cold, even being under the blankets.
Does anyone else have this problem at night? How do you cope? |

Well my legs wake me for sure. Not exactly what you are describing but the pain gets high like someone hit my leg it wakes me and I can't get back to sleep cause it throbs. Are you laying odd? I know when I keep my limb still the pain increases so if I am up even small moving helps. For me a good texture is micro fleece and they even make sheets with that. Also meds to aid in sleep you may want to look into if you have not. I wish I had more answers for you. I would talk to your doctor about this too.

It sounds a bit like Thoracic outlet syndrome.... that often causes the hands/arms to fall asleep due to arm positions while sleeping.
what position are your arms in when they do this? over head, or somewhat above head level? folded under the pillow? the coldness could be from the lack of blood flow also.

Jo*mar,
My arms can be any in position - it happens when I'm on my back or my side. I could understand it more if it only happened in the one that I am "sleeping" on, but it affects both. They usually both "wake" me up from a sleep with their coldness and tingling. |

Has your neck/c spine been checked for any problems?
Any xray or MRI of the c spine? Did this just start happening all of a sudden or gradually?

This has been a constant battle for me for about a month now! My RSD is in my right lower leg... But I experience the exact same problems. The only thing that I have found to help me is to stand up straight until it calms down. I have also found that going outside in the cold air helps to relax the limb too. But if your like me you have to be careful because my leg doesn't recognize how cold it actually is. Good luck... Wishing you many nights of uninterrupted sleep!

This started happened but has gotten worse since the surgery I had in December when I had a paddle implanted. I spoke with my doctor and my "newly" appointed case nurse and we are going to do x-rays to make sure the paddle placement is still secure and to see if there is anything going on. This has been a major disappointment for me. I see the doctor on Monday, and have quite the list of questions, etc. Right now, I just don't know what to do or where to go. Today, I went with my husband and daughter to Michigan State University for a goat event (she shows and raises dairy goats). I am in tremendous pain, I could barely get my sock off, everything is swollen again. My knee has been giving me stability problems again, I feel the "meniscus" pain that I had when I needed the 3 repairs to it, and I don't know if I should consult with my orthopedic surgeon again on my foot and knee problems that never really went away. Could it be just the RSD or could there be something going on structurally? I hate doctors... It was fun to be "out" in public and attending different classes to help manage our dairy goat "herd". I was disappointed in the fact that I could not sit or stand long and the best chair available turned out to be my seat in my van (we took a break so I could sit in something other then an auditorium chair or a horrible plastic desk chair). |
