Sorry, but I think you got it right the first time....more surgery in the same extremity is probably not a good idea.

Think twice, then don't cut. Think twice again and only cut if it is not on the RSD limb and/or absolutely necessary! Even when necessary, there is the risk of spread. My humble opinion.

I took a gamble that surgery might "fix" my RSD effected limb, it didn't help, but by having a stellate ganglion block it didn't cause a flare or spreading. If there is a major structural problem, not having surgery might make your RSD worse. There are NO easy answers with RSD.

I actually had a little relief, because when they removed my hardware, thinking that was the problem, they found I had a large knot of scar tissue (baseball size) in the ankle joint and that my superficial nerve was completely scarred down. it lasted for about 4 months. then back I went, plus some.

Just generally from my past readings here.
- I would want to know what exactly the surgery is for, what are they planning to try to fix? Only the RSD?? ![]() -or is something actually wrong with the ankle that might be fixable with surgery? And I guess I would try non surgical fixes if possible first - chiropractic, acupuncture, PT specialists etc.

Surgery is "generally" a last resort option UNLESS you have clearly identified the root cause of the RSD and you have carefully weighed this decision with a NUMBER of professionals.

Thanks everyone your answers reflect exactly what I was thinking..After being on here for about 3 years I been blessed to be on this forum. There are people like you guys that know this demon and know what to expect from it. But I have a certain entity in my life that thinks you can wave a majic wand and it will all go away. I just want to thank everyone on here for their time and commitment that all of you spend to seek out the new ones and welcome them in. And are quick to answer a question that has been answered probably a thousand times before. That are so willing to help in any way possible even if its looking for new boots. All those things that we now face that we would have never given a first thought to when we were healthy. Thank you. Boy its one crazy messed up disease that I would wish on my worst enemy.

Seriously, some docs might have an understanding of the pain from RSD, but only you and (maybe) very close family understand that it effects sooo many issues in our lives. If you're vocal most will assume you're exaggerating, if you're stoic, most will assume you're not that I'll. Until they spend lots of time with you, that is.
