I take Lyrica for pain control and to answer your question on nerve blocks used as a treatment I can only say that it was used as a diagnose tool on me.
I was prescribed Cymbalta when I first had my surgery on my left wrist but didn't take it because of the probable side effects.
I recommend giving Lyrica a try...
