Well I have probably had 6 beds since this happened. I cant suggest a specific and I feel we are all different too in terms of how we sleep with the condition etc. Some things I look for is height of mattress, type such as pillowtop, etc. Also even items like sheets and blankets can flare me up in terms of texture and weight. You can also try the toppers for beds.
I do feel my whole body not just the rsd areas responds odd to temps. I seem to process what ever the temp is more so if it is cold I am frozen, hot I burn or swell etc. I see you are new and welcome though sorry about the condition. If you feel comfortable you may want to share more. |

My wife (who has RSD) and I are looking to purchase a "Sleep Number" bed. We've tested the bed and she likes it very much.

last night was horrible. I slept in pretty much nothing and had sweats all night. I currently have a sleep number which is horrible. I use my walker as a bed cradle to keep the blankets off. But last night I had head to toe sweats. Today my back is killing me and I have been on muscle relaxers because of the lack of sleep.
I know sometimes it can be medication withdraw, other times it just cant be explained. I have heard lots of good things about the temperpedic bed and as soon as this one is paid for I am going to try it.

I was thinking of a temperpedic and I liked sleeping on my brother's a few years back. I went bed shopping very late at night when the store was EMPTY and the saleswoman insisted I lie down on several models for several minutes each. What I ended up with is a strange hybrid I love. It is a spring mattress with memory foam and a pillow top. For pillows, I find down is the best thing for my neck and to use for travel or propping very body parts. I just purchased a 2 pack from Costco a month ago for $60 or so? I was worried they'd be low quality, but they're similar to others that cost over $100 per pillow.
I've had nightsweats, chills, and full body temperature regulation dysfunction for many years--and it started before I began taking meds that could cause the issue... I find that the more out of control my pain is, the greater the frequency of episodes. Taking baths helps reset my body temperature to normal. Having several light layers of blankets helps as well. |

Hello to good sleep. boy we all need that. I already had a really good bed set. I bought a 4"topper of tempeur pedic from Bed Bath and Beyond. I know for myself, I keep very comfortable. I do not have RSD however. I just have it for my own back issues, this worked out very well without spending another huge amount for a new tempeur pedic full set. ginnie

Alt1268, what is it about the sleep number bed that bothers you? What bothers my wife with the foam kind of beds is heat. Cold does not bother her as much as heat does. She sweats alot even when I think its cold. Her take on the foam beds is they form to the outline of the body and in short order heat then builds up in those indented areas.

Hi Jimking, Just a few thoughts about the bed issue. I know how hard it is for your wife to sleep.
Those hot spots can be a concern if you sink too deeply into the mattress. However the tempeur pedic, has a firm one, in which you to not do that, but you still get the support. They cost a bunch. Also there are now sheets made by special companies that have products, both blankets and sheets, that distribute heat, or vent it, instead of getting over heated. I can dig around for information on those if you want me too. I sure hope she can find what she needs for comfort of sleep. ginnie |
