Default ok .. who else shares this problem. or am i nuts

ok so today I go to my PM.. and it sucked... bad.. so much pain i couldnt even concentrate on them calling my name. Ok so I get into exam room and the nurse does the q, and a session. i.e. how ru ..pain level.refills needed.. blood pressure. new symptoms. etc. so I made mention of all of my pain.. adding that it all hurts reallly bad but todayy the worst is my feet, back abd all of my joints. also pointed out I am now getting burning sores that are bleeding.
on my head.I showed her , she wrote in the chart, the i showed her my swollen legs, and how bad atrophy has gotten.(because with the swelling its hard to tell. Also made mention of my eyes burning like salt was burned into them. and at that time she made note my eyes were dark blood red..(nice right)
ok so the PM comes in asks me whats going on. I respond. he says have we spoken about the SCS. I responded. yes a couple of times but I am not comfortable with the risk factor. he scoffed. and as he was writing I made mention that besides these new pains, the swelling is out of control. (I even showed him) I am a size 10.5 foot but the shoes I am wearing now are a size 13.5, and I cannt tie them and I barely can get my foot in them now.. he said .. something like . yep then he said ok I will fill your amrix and trazadone as you said you have enough oxy, lyrica, elavil, and vimovo.. Ill see u in a month. then he bolts out of the room. answering nothing. then I go to make nxt appt and the receipt. hand me a script for the oxy.. and thts it.. uhh hello I do not need this right now I need the other s.. so am I wrong to feel like I just goth the bums rush and does every PM dr do this.. or what.. is it just me

You really need to find another doctor and fast especially because of the sores.
Print this and take it along.

Default Hi Painman

Oh... no that is not good at all. If your doctor will not sit and actually try to speak to you, you need to find another doctor pronto!!!! Rushing you out, is not a way to help a person. RSD hurts, and if he has no compassion, it is time to run for hills and find a competent physician. Post where you are from and maybe someone can refer you to someone they know is good. A teaching hosptial may be your best best. I am sorry you are suffering this much. ginnie

I ran into this several times in the past couple years. I think I waited too long to switch doctors but the one I have now is wonderful. She really takes the time to sit, discuss each of my symptoms/concerns with me, we discuss (yes...really DISCUSS) different ideas for treatment options. Not just what we plan to do now...but what the next step will be if it works or if it doesn't. Even in my worst moments I ALWAYS feel better (reassured) after I see my current doctor. We really are parters when it comes to my treatment and I couldn't be happier.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. I know it is not an easy thing to consider and go through the process of finding a new doctor...especially when you are on any sort of work comp. If switching doctors is not a possibility then I have found that going in with a list of things to discuss (questions, treatments, etc) and telling the doctor up front when he comes in that you have a list of things to discuss with them can help...but you need to speak up if they try to run out and say you have more to discuss before they get away. I also found that it helps when you have someone else in the room with you if there's anyone you trust who can go with you. Even some of the worst ones i have had the "pleasure" of working with will try to put on a more compassionate show if there is an audience. I doubt they even do it on purpose...but they just tend to be more concious of how they come across when there are 2 sets of eyes looking back at them instead of just one. And have the person take notes too. On the flip side...another set of ears can help put things in perspective for YOU after the fact. I know sometimes with the pain I would be so emotional that the things I FELT at the time were not necessarily based so much on reality and it can be a good thing to have someone who can center you and bring you down if it's your emotions that are coloring the memory of the visit.

I agree with the others painman - find another doctor ASAP!!! Not all doctors are like this, many are but not all of them. My PM never acts like that. He actually sits down and listens to me and responds to everything I say. I may not always agree with his response, if I don't then we discuss it further. I can even email him and he emails back!! He doesn't treat me like a number, he treats me like a patient should be treated. It took going through many doctors to find this one. So happy and fortunate that I found him!

I wish you the best,
Nanc

The sevral PM drs I saw were like that aswell. Because im also a post op TOS paitent that is all they look at! It drives me crazy! And so then its eather well we can do scalene botox injections or put in a SCS and when I said no to both and why, then its like there done with me and they handed my scripts and out the door they went. and so after that I was done with PM drs. I do NOT agree with botox being injected into however many scalenes i have left, and a SCS will not work as it doesnt work in most TOS paitent because the leads cant go high enough and they cant go into the area thats affected. But its eather there way or no way and that just wasnt going to work. Oh and the one PM dr because I refused those 2 things he said i needed to go see a spcych dr. I was very angry at that paticular dr because he hands all the junkies there meds they need, but wouldnt actually help me when I needed it.

Pain specialists are under pressure for various reasons (this is no excuse for doctors) to decrease the pain of patients over time. Patients who constantly tell the doctor a pain scale or a level of pain constantly high on the chart, many doctors will react negatively to the patient. If the doctor feels there is little improvement in pain over a period of time then why bother. Those with RSD and other severe chronic pain patients are in a tight spot for sure. If you tell them you feel much better, your visits could end. Tell them you feel constistantly like hell your visits could end. Many patients then realize it's some sort of game, many play it then find themselves looked upon as a drug seeker.
Those who are very wealthy don't have to worry about this. Believe you me, there are no RSD suffering multimillionaires, and they do exists.

Default The whole issue

This sounds like you have to play a game, and believe me ( and all the rest of cronic pain patients) this is no game to us. Also if you reduce your pain medications too much in any case you are at risk of loosing SSD, as they consider you "better" This whole system is broken, and puts a person in a trapped situation. I fear not having medical care, even more than I fear the pain I endure. So do you play pin cushion even though the shots don't always work? Just putting my opinions our there. I am worried about all these issues. ginnie
