Hi all,
Unfortunately I'll have to wait until next week for any relief. I'm about to run out of pain medication. I can't get a hold of my doctor, who's out of the office till Monday . And the Risk Management people at the hospital never opened the claim like they were supposed to, so no new doctor s will see me without approval from the claims department .....So I figured until then I could get some ideas to talk to my doctor about. I'm currently only Oxycodone 5-325 (Tylenol) only Which I think would work better at a stronger dose as it doesn't last very long. I also have to take 2-3 of them to get any real relief.I am also still waking up in the middle of the night with pain and have to take more. Needless to say I am also exhausted on top of all the pains... I have ruled out Gabapentin as I can't handle the side effects. So what combinations have you tried that i can talk to my doctor about. I am afraid of anti-depressants as Lexapro made me suicidal when i took it YEARS ago. |

also has this been effecting anyone else relationships? My fiance is acting like ...well a jerk. He's saying this was my fault because I went to the ER in the first place (extremely heavy bleeding due to uterine fibriods). My doctor's office had told me to go, as they didn't have the medication or tools to stop the bleeding. And I WAS found to be very anemic from blood loss. Also he has said that I need to quit "whining". Says he has pain too and he doesn't saying anything about tit ever.
This is just making everything else harder. Part of me wants to tell him to take a flying leap. The other I don't know just wants to cry......I feel like this is ruining my life. |

My current crps nerve pain meds are:
gabapentin - 3,300mg/day, C-naltrexone 10mg/day, dextromethorphan SR 60mg/day. Everbody responds different so one has to try one at a time to determine the efficacy & side effects they have. Very best wishes to you. You are going through what we all go through, unfortunately. SS |

Lyrica, cymbalta, lidoderm to name a few non narcotics. Chances are most medications will have side fx that may only last the first week while getting adjusted.

Unfortunately it is as sallysue says... trial and error to determine how your system will respond to each medication, and that can take a few weeks trial on each one. You might talk to your doc about meds that act as a nerve agent. Alprazolam (Xanax) is one and does have an effect on the nerve pain. Constantly fighting RSD pain will tax your whole system, so physical therapy (any physical exercise) and a super healthy diet will go a long way in helping you feel the best you possible can.
As far as fiancee... there are websites for families of victims that explain what you go through. (** **) Its hard for most people, esp. men to wrap their mind around RSD. Trust me, its really hard to see one you love fighting RSD and it takes time for us to come to a full realization of what you go through. Bottom line... If he refuses to learn about the disease and support you then you don't need him in your life. Stress increases the pain astronomically. Hang in there honey... |

What haven't I tried? Just about every med I've been on has been sedating. When trying a new med you have to start at a low dose and increase very gradually. The first time I tried Lyrica I couldn't stand the sedating effects and I slept all day. Second go around we went much slower and now I take a higher dose of it than I ever did.
Celebrex is a med that helps with the achiness with no sedating effects that I'm aware of. Of course there is the increased risk of heart attack and GI bleeding. Alone, Celebrex just doesn't cut it. I take about 20-25 pills a day to manage this beast and I'm still about a 7/10 pain. |

Don't rule out medications out of fear of side effects before trying them!!!! I take gabapentin, and although I would love to have no side effects, they aren't too bad! I have some short term memory type lapses/forgetfulness, but other than gaining 10 lbs, I don't have too many other side effects. Lyrica is a great one and I didn't gain any weight on that one...I am thinking about switching back to Lyrica!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone. I've tried gabapentin but couldn't handle the side effects. I've taken down a list of medications to talk to my doctor about tomorrow. Hopefully he will help me. I go in for an MRI today or tomorrow as well. They want to double check for nerve entrapment before starting me on any kind of PT regimen. I'm still early in my treatment so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully they can halt the progress. I also might see about an antidepressant as no matter what this ends up being entrapment/CRPS it is really effecting my emotions, as I'm sure you all can understand any long term pain syndrome/condition will. As far as the fiance....we'll see. As he's STILL not being very supportive. There are other issues as well. He's much older than I am and I have a 7yr old...i don't think he has the required patience that goes along with raising a little "big" kid. Since she is THE most important thing in my life. We have some things to hash out. To say the least.
