Question Internal Organ Spasms

Okay this is the weirdest thing I have felt in my lower abdomen since I was pregnant. I woke up this morning from the Charlie-horsing like spasm in my right leg. Gosh those hurt! For the last three hours or so I have had a definite spasm going on in either my uterus or my bladder. Feels more like the uterus because I will also have what feels like a Braxton Hicks contraction where my lower abdomen is contracting. I would take a soma but I’m trying to get some work done today before we head for a long July 4th weekend vacation with the family. The soma makes me so sleepy, so I'm trying to avoid that.

Over the last few days I have really been struggling with my digestive system. All kinds of lovely things that I won’t go into here, but trust me when I say that the entire system is giving me issues . To the extent it’s been tough to even get meds down. It too kind of feels like when you’re pregnant and can’t get your food to digest properly. Let me be clear, I am in no danger of being pregnant. Quite the contrary. I have more perimenopause symptoms than I would like to admit. And interesting how most of the perimenopause symptoms are some of the same symptoms of CRPS (eg night sweats, fatigue, etc).

So this spasming has been going on in either my uterus or bladder for a about three hours now. Good grief, what will I do about internal involvement of the CRPS? I just saw my neuro doc this week, and he wants to do a sleep study for apnea because I have had episodes of waking up choking. However I really believe this is from reflux and indigestion of food not processing properly. I have only seen him a couple of times, so we are still in the “get to know you” phase. <sigh>

I guess the answer is take a Soma and muscle through the day sleepy.

My left hand is awful this evening, typing this is hurting - but my hand has been ok before now Seems like it wants to take everything away some days...

Hange in there, and I hope you sleep ok tonight.

So the Soma's not working. I even have spots on my arm spasming now. This is awesome. Trying to be on this medication AND do my job. My attorney for my business has sent me a document to review. This is so much fun on these drugs (not!). ug! Wish I'd known she was going to be in touch today, with an "I need this now" kind of task, and I would have skipped the Soma!

I have had what feels like stomach/intestinal spasms recently, alongside a flare (and a migraine). I've also had recurring "flutters" behind my caesarian scar, like in early pregnancy except I'm not pregnant. Baclofen is meant to be excellent for internal spasms and (I believe?) a lot less dangerous than Soma. It isn't as cracking for muscle spasms in my experience but it helped my IBS an awful lot. I'm not convinced my IBS isn't CRPS either as I get a burning hot patch under my right ribs that hurts like hell to touch and is red and swollen, always comes along with the stomach spasms. I first got this before the CRPS diagnosis and therefore it's not been linked as it was a different specialist. They thought it was my gallbladder (I faint from the pain of it) but it wasn't, so I got the stock diagnosis of IBS.

I really hope you feel better soon xx

So sorry Bram that it's in your hands too. My hands are also affected, and some days it really does suck. Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

So sorry to hear that you have these spasms too Kathy. My deliveries were vaginal so I don’t have the scar but here I am some 16 hours later and it’s still happening. In addition I am have spasms randomly all over (my arms, legs, etc). I tried Baclofen and I couldn’t wait for it to be out of my system. I was excited to get it because I had heard so many good things about it, but it literally made my symptoms MUCH worse, for reason that are unknown to me. All I can say is that it was a VERY long night. But thanks for the idea though.

I too have had what seems to be IBS, but I never had these issues before a few months ago. Part of me thinks that at least part of that is from the high dose gabapentin that I take, and not sure I could live without. My spasticity issues seem to be getting worse and worse, along with digestive issues. My body feels like it’s vibrating long before full on spasms occur. The vibrating is moving into a more constant than sporadic. What’s happening in my belly is not too painful (yet), but really concerns me given the spasms elsewhere on my body. I even feel weird sensations in my tongue too.

I am in touch with the burn you speak of. That does hurt like hell. Mine was my stomach and just having more of the burning sensation in general in my legs too.

I could have sworn months ago that I had a gallbladder issue, but had an ultra sound and was told all was ok. Now months later I no longer have what felt like a baby’s foot under my rib, but now have full on digestive issues. One minute diarrhea so bad I can barely make it to the restroom, and the next I feel like I’m going to throw up and have reflux crazy bad.

I just feel like my symptoms are showing in different ways now. And the old symptoms more pronounced. All this started in my right leg/foot in 2004, and now it’s full on and anywhere it chooses to rear its ugly head. I’m not at all sure what to do about these new issues and getting my doc not to be overwhelmed by me, but hell, I’m overwhelmed!

Thanks again for sharing and letting me share. I really do appreciate it!

Just an idea....a lot of that sounds very familiar from an episode I had a few months ago. I had electric shock type spasms, mad sweating and tremors, pain in just aout every bit of me, then the GI symptoms you describe so well - I thought I was going crazy some days. I saw two docs in three days, they were a bit lost frankly, no real ideas, saw one of them for the third time and he finally did a proper GI exam, realised everything WAS hurting and ordered blood tests. I'd had my gall bladder removed ten years ago and he thought I might have some bile leaking into my insides. Eek.

It was a med change that sorted everything out for me, I was lucky to work it out before they did the more invasive tests they had planned. The Gabapentin (Neurontin) I was on was screwing up my stomach big time, and everything else stemmed from that. I came off it and after a few days (during which I'm sure my body sighed with relief) things started to calm down. I'm not saying that your symptoms are due to meds, but just saying that there can be so many reasons for some of the strange symptoms we get at times. And sadly, too often WE have to be the detectives

I hope your symptoms are something that can be resolved quickly. It must be really distressing on top of the pain...

Bram
