Hi Katiek, I'm sorry you have ocd on top of your rsd. I have struggled with depression and anxiety and ocd long before I got rsd, so I can't really tell you if it's related. All I know is that it's all gotten much worse since I've gotten rsd.
I take Xanax and Zoloft for my depression and anxiety. As for the ocd, it's something I need to talk to my dr about, because these pills aren't helping with that.
My thoughts are with you that your dr can help you deal with your ocd and rsd.
Take Care.

I used to have it quite badly when my first child was born, but got it under control. I'm ok now, but do have to remind myself not to go there sometimes I can totally understand us crps'ers being more prone to it...

Relaxation is important, OCD is a lot to do with anxiety and stress. It is manageable though, and you can control it, it just takes some work and belief. Well worth the work I promise.

If I can be any help, do message me.

Bram.

My son suffers ocd/tourettes and is taking 150mg setriline or zoloft. Hhe did have cbt but sadly he couldnt get to grip with it his ocd fear is death/cancer/germs/deseases .You can control the ocd bully but its very hard work try exceptance show the ocd bully he cant bother u and nothing bad will happen if you dont do a ritual. God bless x

well .. i am getting worse as time goes on.. but I'm not sure if it qualifies as OCD… any time I touch or see someone touch anything that may be dirty . I wash my hands .. from their nose toes dirty table patting dogs…I also clean dirty surfaces with bleach,lysol,vinegar..etc. and an area isn't clean unless I physically do it..mind you .. I don't get up and clean when its dirty.. but I won't use an area unless I clean it.. even if it was clean already. and I can't stop thinking about what germs, dirt etc are on what Im touching… so much so that I do all the cooking , and if I don't I really don't eat

hi thanks for the replies and well wishes. i saw a new psycologist who has quite alot of experience with crps and said she felt ocd was linked. she advised me it was for a few reasons. one being ocd is a form of anxity and the anxity has manifested as ocd. two that the person with crps has no real control over their body so the compulsions from ocd can seem as though you have some control. although she did explain that you really had no control over the compulsions. my compulsions are more checking things like lights are off doors are locked. so far i dont have the germs issues. the psyc is going to try cbt and other treatments before medication. her opinion was that the crps is at the root of all the anxity deppression and ocd issues i have. so fingets crossed. thanks again

Hi Katie, I think you are really onto something with the fact that with CRPS we have so little control over the disease, so we try to find things that we CAN control.

I've been finding myself doing this recently. Not typical OCD behavior (yet), but for instance take some basic tasks like yard work or vehicle repair or just everyday things....before I had CRPS I didn't pay much attention to these run of the mill things, but now I obsess about getting these things done perfectly!

I do truly believe that with this behavior, I am "compensating" for not having the control I would like over my CRPS. I guess it's not unusual that something like CRPS would have different types of effects on our mental health. I think it's important to recognize them and finding professionals who can help us with these behaviors can be of great benefit.

Always an adventure, isn't it.....

I think that sounds spot on you two......oh the fun and games! I never had the germ thing, but the lights, locks, and putting things in a certain position were a big deal. I still catch myself turning the canisters by the kettle so they're facing exactly the same way...you have to laugh sometimes

Take care and always believe that you DO have some control (even if it's not much lol). Deep breathing and relaxation stuff has really helped mine.

Bram.

Katiek, I too have rsd and ocd, which can be a very bad mixed. I have a bad tendency to cleaning in a certain way and no one does it my way. then I have to can back behind them and put things in the right spot to the tee even if it hurts me. My husband trys but it doesn't help I let him think he has done it right and fidget till he leaves the room and then fix it. Good luck

Soft Hugs,
Chris
