Default Gabapentin for muscle cramps?

Hi all,
I was wondering if you've ever heard of using Anti seizure meds for muscle cramps. I can't ask my doc cause it's Saturday. I'm on a 5-day flare up. I take it for the nerve pain but nothing seems to work for the muscle cramps. Internet doesn't say anything about it,

Thanks!
Heather

Hi Heatherg23,

Sorry you are having a flare! Can't you call your doctor and discuss this with whomever is on call? Perhaps they could call you in a scrip for Baclofen or something else? It depends much on if these are cramps, spasms or tremors on what may or may not work. I get spasms/tremors throughout my body and for this I take Baclofen 3-4 times a day as needed which is primarily used for seizures, it works well for me but, if they are muscle cramps something else could be going on as well. Like for instance low potassium (which can be deadly) can cause severe muscle cramps.. so my advice would be to put a call in to your doctor or whomever is on call.

Baclofin works very well for the muscle cramps - only reason I am not on it is I have adverse reactions... I hallucinate red glowy orbs following me...

I take Tegretol an anti seizure drug. It mostly helps with the deep aching pains.

I take flexeril and Valium for muscle tighteness. I still have muscle spasms though from time to time. I had them all day yesterday.

You could try Epsom salt soaks.

Cyclobenzaprine for muscle spasms, nerve twinges. Only side effect I've noticed when used in moderation is drowsiness which makes it a nice night-time dose. Gabapentin had a few nastier ones such as appetite trouble and nightmares.

Default Also flexeril to be consider

As many already said, baclofen works well for muscle spasm and also with spine issues ,flexeril is mostly for muscle spasm, like Tessa said, call the dr office ,there is always a dr on call ,he /she will be able to recommend something to keep you out of pain, also warm water works ,or a warm pad place on your upper back and neck, hope that helps a little bit and hope you get better soon, try to relax as well , from Jesika

Hi Heather, I don't have much to add to what others have said. Just wanted to say "hi", 'cause I haven't seen you around in a while. I get muscle cramps ( charlie horse) and I get little constant muscle twitches too. I use heating pad, daily stretching routine every morning, epsom salt warm bath every night, baclofen during day if needed, flexaril at bedtime. Feel better soon ~lottie
