I posted awhile ago that I was having problems with my eyes - blurry-haze over the top and pain with bright lights. Well, I went to the opthomologist last night.

She found that my sphyncter muscle in my eye was not working correctly. It was causing my eyes to be constantly dialated. In addition, the insides of my eye lids were swollen and has white inflamed dots. She said that typically was because of allergies, but I've never had allergies before and my eyes weren't itchy or watering.

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. Is it because of a reaction to one of my medications or is it RSD? I'm currently on 1800mg Neurontin daily, cymbalta, norflex and lidocaine patches.

The doctor is going to do some research on it too to see what's going on.

Any comments?

I had problems with my vision while taking Neurontin. I have some not so great eyes at it is, but while I was taking that med, I noticed that my vision was MUCH worse than usual. More blurry....everything foggy.....just, crappy in general. I had just had my glasses prescription updated before starting the med, and I knew that it couldn't be that my eyes had gotten THAT bad THAT quickly!

I didn't want to go back to the eye doc, just to have him tell me it was the med that was messing with my eyes. Or, to have him make up some new prescription that I didn't really need (I have been through the ringer with eye docs throughout my life...LONG story. Won't get into it).

The problems went away after I weaned myself off of the med. This was about 3 years after I started on it. I am not in any way saying FOR SURE that Neurontin is what is causing your problems, as I did not go and have my eyes looked at, and so don't know if I had the same things going on that you do. Nor am I saying that you should wean yourself off of any med at any time. You just might talk to your doc about the possibility of this being as least part of your problem....and go from there. For me, I wasn't getting enough (LOL...translate that to ANY) relief from the med to justify my taking it and putting up with all of the side effects that it was causing me (More than just the vision problems in my case). But, this is something that we all have to decide for ourselves, and hopefully with the help of a doc that will listen (my old PM doc did/would not).

I hope that you get more responses here. Sometimes things kinda slow down on the weekends, so if you don't get as many as quickly as you like, you might try bumping this back up when the weekend is over. I am curious to see what anyone else says here, too.

Sorry, this is not something I am familiar with. I do know that certain meds screw with my eyes, tho... mainly the Neurontin, Elavil types.

What gets me most about your post, though, is that I never knew you have a sphyncter muscle in your eyes, lol! Yes, I googled it to find out more.

I also had major problems while on neurontin. I would read the drug insert carefully because horrible eyes are only a part of the problem. I suffered major insomnia, dry skin especially lips, nail problems, flu like symptoms, memory problems and too many more to mention. I know they include this stuff with almost every drug they sell just to legally cover their wallets. But you either have no problems or you have many of these problems and cannot decide to quit it yet. Do Not Wait; if you are having allergic reaction start titration and be sure you get instruction to do it properly (no more than 300mg per week). You may have to go to the 100mg dose during the final weeks. Keep in mind the drug has a 8 hour half life so you have to have 3 doses per day until you feel you can pull the plug and be free of it.

I had to go off Neurontin because it made me have blurry vision and sore eyes. I can't take any type of seizure meds because of the same problem.

I got this from a neurontin webiste for side effect....Gabapentin may cause blurred vision, double vision, clumsiness, unsteadiness, dizziness, drowsiness, or trouble in thinking. Make sure you know how you react to gabapentin before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert, well-coordinated, or able to think or see well. If these reactions are especially bothersome, check with your doctor.
