Default Nortriptyline reaction or CRPS spread?

On Friday I had cortisone shots for hip bursitis and I also starting taking 10mgs of nortriptyline.

By Monday my lips, chin, forearms and hands were burning and tingling. In addition I am sweating and I suddenly have insomnia.

My doctor is on vacation this week, so I left a message with his PA. I am freaking out.

Right after I posted this, the PA called to tell me to stop taking the med.

hi bio. i know it's hard but try to stay as calm as you can. stressing out only makes symptoms worse. maybe you are having a reaction to cortisone and the new med and that's why the pa said to stop taking it. just try to rest and see if the symptoms you are experiencing subside. i'm not a dr but know that when i have bad reactions to things that it aggravates my rsd. if that is also the case with you then that may subside too after you are off the cortisone and new med for a while. if i were you i would confirm all of this with your dr when he returns and also keep in touch with your pa too. try to stay calm and breath and rest. i know it's scary when you have other health issues on top of rsd but you are not alone and i am sending soft hugs and prayers your way. just keep telling yourself that this too shall pass. if things get worse then the er is another option but try to stay positive and calm and know that i'm here if you need to talk.

Hi BB,

Just FYI, nortriptyline has a long half life. I have read it takes 5+ days to exit your system so keep that in mind. Hopefully that is going to take care of your symptoms. I did a weird flushing thing on 25mg of nortriptyline, face hands and feet all went red and hot. I don't know if that was similar to your sweating symptom. My face and hands are completely unaffected by CRPS so I knew that wasn't it.

Sending hugs and healing love,

Littlepaw,

I had the flushing, too. Like a niacin flush.

Hopefully once I stop the norotriptyline all these symptoms will go away!
