Just to let you know I was able to get a prescription for LDN through one of my former doctors and it can be filled at my local CVS, because it is for the 50mg tablets. According to the pharmacist I spoke to at CVS this is getting to be a fairly common practice. Wow. (:
Edit: update, the prescription was sent not to CVS, but to the local compounding pharmacy, which screwed up my betahistine in the past, sigh. Since it is a compound it is not covered by insurance. The cost is $70 for a months supply, which to me is simply outrageous. The cost per 50mg tab of naltrexone averages about $2.50. Taking 4.5mgs per day I would need approx. 3 tabs per month, at an approx cost of $7.50 per month. Please share your thoughts. I am open to all suggestions. I hate to continue to get LDN online, but I may be financially forced into it, but at least now I have been prescribed it. Last edited by BioBased; 10-27-2016 at 03:43 PM. |

I once had a massive cost for my meds, Neurontin wasn't insured back then, and we are a government insured (everybody is insured) country and medication usually isn't that expensive. So... it was hard. But I still shelled out the money for it, because yeah... I need the medication. That's what it all comes down to.

Bio,
I am pleased you were finally able to get a prescription for the LDN. I think it's worth pursuing different compounding options as LovesTerriers said. If you can get it affordably it would be nice to have it as an "official" medication on your record just in case it affects anything with any of your doctors. (even though it isn't controlled). Things can get persnickety sometimes with the various contracts on prescriptions.

As Lovesterriers suggested shop around for a better price. Compounding is more expensive, but some compounders are more patient friendly than others. Right now you have to see if it is the drug that will work for you. If it turns out it gives you the relief that you need, inquire about pricing for higher quantities i.e. 3 months instead of just one. Maybe that would be cheaper.
Good luck! Shay |

Here is our pharmacy database, where you can look-up medications and their prices (language = Dutch), by "BRANDNAME" or "generic name": pharmacy database

Oh that's a HUGE bag of worms. Not only do we get vastly overcharged in the US for our prescription drugs (as compared to the rest of the world) but our insurance is all different for different people on different plans... and then larger pharmacies can afford to offer discounts so sometimes they are cheaper. But then on specialized stuff sometimes the smaller pharmacy may be better (they may pay closer attention to the work, etc.) and you may get better pricing to. Welcome to the free market in the USA. Its insane.
