Confused Capsaiciain

Have any of you ever have the suggestion of capsaiciain for your rsd... I was told by the ER doctor last night that it would hurt like hell for the first 6 weeks because it would burn and things of that nature but i would start to calm down the neurons after the 6 weeks... I havent asked my pm about it yet but it peaked my intrest?

I have linked the website she gave me which is wikipedia below... Go down to the medical portion of it... let me know what you all think after you read it... Be intrested to find if any of you have used it!!!

Pain free days ahead and gental hugsv

I know several people who have used it and found it helpful and I know someone else who wasn't helped by it. It's worth giving it a try!! Off the top of my head it's all linked in with substance P etc isn't it??

Is it going to hurt because of it being the gel or is it going to hurt because of the sensitivity?

It sounds like its worth a try!!

Good luck

Love

I somehow got poison ivy on my forearm a few years back and the whole area was totally free of RSD until it cleared up. Unfortunately I'm pretty immune to poison ivy and subsequent attempts to get it again have failed.

I tried the capsaisin but the relief was temporary for me and was outweighed by the discomfort. Perhaps it's worth another try.

The active ingredient in poison ivy is urushiol oil. This oil is on all parts of the plant I believe. I could have made a fortune on the oil since I had access to a substantial amount and it's not available on the market.

The RSD gets better when I get diverticulitis too. The doctor said this isn't unusual.

Some people are very sensitive to poison ivy and I wouldn't recommend intentional contact. Poison ivy can be very dangerous and there are several fatalities every year. Usually these are caused by internal exposure by breathing the fumes from fires or the like.

I haven't tried Capsaiciain cream , but two nights ago I soaked my finger joints with what I thought was peppermint oil, felt pretty good too.

the next day I did it again, and noticed what appeared to be chemical burns I was howling

I peeled off the price sticker that was covering the "warning do not aplly full strength" to be mixed with massage oils

i have used the capsacin in the cream, the gel pads, and the liquid. i have tried it both as a daily thing and during a flare. using it on a daily basis starting with a little then building up over time, it seems to help in the same way the whole applying fabric stuff. it added a lot of heat (i guess that is the point). has anyone had the pt thing where u stick your hand into a box that has warm air run through corn (i think its corn). your hand gets really hot and it is supposed to be really good for rsd. the capsacin is kind of like that. i wouldnt recommend using it when you are in a flare...it basically feels like putting a fire on the area and suffering through it with no real benifit (at least not for me).

Hi Everyone,
I had tried Capsaiciain not for the RSD but for the arthritis pain in my hip and knees. It burned so bad I had to put cold towels on the area to help with the pain from the burning. I did find another cream that has worked wonders for me. Its called Theragesic. I hope I spelled that right. You put it on in layers. 1 for mild pain. the 2nd one if that doesn't work, I always do the 3rd layer. When I used to work, even with the pain meds I was having a hard time making it through the day. I bring the tube of cream everywhere with me and putting it on was the only way to get through the day. It gets hot, but not to the point that you can't stand it. It has helped me through many bad days. Its not too expensive, about $5.99 a tube. You can find it at most drug stores. Everyone I have told to try it can't belive the instant relief. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Iwas given capsaiciain cream for occipital neuralgia, 2 tubes, i for 3 wks &then the second stronger one for next 3 wks.
I found it very painful for me but then i think i was rubbing it in to hard & right on the nerve.
I hated it being rubbed into back of head & in my hair too. so never got to the stronger tube.
Just so messy, or femail pride.
Regards Sophia
