Hi all. I have to ask. We all have had muscle spasms at least once in our life right? Usually in our feet? And am I right when I say they hurt like H E Double Hockey Sticks? Well my questions is this..
Has anyone ever had a muscle spasm in there hand to where it goes into a almost distorted position. Painful and all. I'm even talking my good side. I had one yesterday. Out of the blue. Lasted for about 40 minutes. Muscles were so constricted my sister could not pull my hand from my wrist or separate my fingers. The pain was out of this world. And as quick as it came it left. Afterwards my left arm was very weak and hand and fingers were kinda numb and so sore. I give up on trying to figure this all out. I don't even bother to call my Doc anymore because she is impossible to reach on short notice. I wouldn't go near my ER unless I was half dead . I am just curious if anyone might know what's up with this? Thanks so much. Chin Up!!!! Luv Mark P.S. My neice is typing this for me. It is to important not to get it all correct!

I have had them in my right hand. My middle finger, the ring finger and little finger spasm up and get all out of shape. It usually goes pretty quick. Bill use to massage them and I have soaked my hand in a parafin bath to help calm them down.
When mine first started I chalked them up to the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome but I had surgery on my right side in 2000 and for the longest time I never had any. Then about a year and a half ago they started again. Like you now I don't know what to chalk them up to. I try not to keep my hand in one position for too long such as holding a book one way or holding a fork one way to eat. It seems to me like certain positions bring it on with me. It will be interesting to see what ideals people give you about this. I have wondered also. Hope you are having a good day. Ada |

Get these all the time in my hands. I have found that putting pressure from the other hand to put it back in place makes it go away almost immediately. If I don't do something to "untwist" it, it will stay like that for several minutes. Don't want that happening.
Also get horrible leg cramps at night. Sometimes in foot, sometimes in the leg. Have to get up and walk or super extend the cramping muscle and hold in that position for up to 20 minutes. May be from not enough potassium or the inability to metabolize the potassium I take in. Good luck with it. Hugs and Prayers

HI,
i get those ... in many areas of my affected leg, outer and inner upper leg, calf and foot, and they are killers and can hurt for days after. i take tranxene 7.5mg at bedtime and almost never get them during the night anymore. it truly was a life saver. i had gotten where i was afraid to go to bed, with such fear of waking with them, and being unable to break the cramp. i also get them in my hands where i have either RSD or Reynaud's ... doctor have differing opinions there, and i do not care since neither can be cured ... go figure. Hi Mark,
I have had muscle spasms right from the start of this crazy disease. My foot would curl up so tight and the pain was off the charts. It took forever for my husband and kids to get my foot staightened out. I get them every night. As soon as I take off my shoe and brace, they start. I try to breath through them but that doesn't work. I keep telling the Docs about it but they just act like its nothing. I'd like for them to just get one. Sue K. |

When my hand and arm starts doing what you hand and arm are doing I soak mine in epsom salt and warm water. Most of the time it really helps, when it doesn't I entertain thoughts of chewing it off LOL. You know when animals get caught in traps that is what they try to do to get loose. I pray today finds you in less pain!! And we can read you posts just fine!! so if you have noone around to type for you just jump right in here. I still smile about your smile sliding around you face--YOU ARE THE MAN!!BLESS YOU!!Carose

Hey,
Just wanted to let you know that the spasms in your hands are due to RSD. I wish I could tell you what would make it better but I can't even get rid of this myself. I'm sorry you are going thru this....I know the pain it causes. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Marse |

My daughter has RSD in her left leg and right arm
The spasms in the leg started off as a very slight "twitching" just behind the ankle bone and eventually became so strong that they contributed somewhat to her foot rotating outwards and are now fully visible and are seen through a violent shaking and trembling in her toes, especially the big one which shoots up and down then twitches violently - she calls it her party trick, but really gets frustrated by people watching it. They come every five minutes or so and last for a couple of minutes each time Recently she has also had spasms in her thigh too, though nowhere near as frequently - usually a couple of times a day The arm is quite a recent injury (six weeks or so) but you can still feel slight spasms in her clenched fist and trying to straighten the fingers is a nightmare as you just start to get some movement and then the spasm kicks in an undoes all of the hard work - hence the splinting in theatre. Needless to say the spasms are so strong that they have managed to partially find a way around the splint and the PM Team are having to have a rethink Alison is currently taking baclofen, tramadol and lyrica but I would be grateful if someone could advise of anything else that may hekp

I get horrible muscle spasms, from the hips down. If it weren't for Baclofen and morphine, I don't think I could get through the day! I also take hot soaky baths. I use a "medicated" bath oil for sore muscles that contains eucalyptus and other stuff too numerous to mention here. Back before the baclofen, I would take up to three a day, the spasms were so bad. Massages help a lot too... too bad Michael only has one good arm <sigh>. He tries, but it doesn't help as much as I'd like. I used to get professional massages done, but I can't afford it anymore. My ins. doesn't even pay for the PT to do massages!

I get these spasm too!!!
Dang that is scary what ya'all are writing about them. It seems the ones im getting have been getting progressively worse, and that is a bit worriesome after reading this thread lol. I was wondering if any of you have tried a soak in a hot tub? Been thinking of getting a small 2 passenger tub so that I could hop in it anytime I needed to, and not have to wait for the fill up.
