ada

somehow i missed this today.

a grease burn needs to be washed off with cool water and soap. to get the cooking grease off.

like abbie said...do NOT pop the blister. it's keeping the germs out. your body will absorb the water in the blister.

i'm a fan of neosporin. they even make one with a pain reliever in it. kinda numbs it. even putting some tooth stuff like oragel or ambisol helps. ( i keep that in my kitchen )

I know it is too late for me to be telling you this, but I have always used just good ole Mayo on burns.
Not sure what is in it but it calms it down almost immediately and prevent blistering.
Sounds crazy I know, but it works every time....and unfortunately I have burnt myself on numerous
occasions while cooking, I am clumsy by nature....hahahahah.
But I am glad you were able to get it calmed down and will be calling the doctor tomorrow.
Love, Peace & Blessings,

Hey Ada...

If you're going to have the doc call something in for you...

Silvadene (not sure that's spelled correctly) works GREAT!!

It's only available by prescription, it is for burns, and it WONDERFUL!!

That's what the docs gave me when I had a 3rd degree burn on my hand. I barely have a scar now.

Hope you are feeling better today!

Abbie

Default Thanks girls for the help.

Mayo, I have used that before Marla. I never thought of it though. I often wonder how people can keep these things in their heads forever. Old folk remedies. I grew up with those but I still can't remember them.

Silvidine, that's what my nurse recomended. She did call my Dr. and he called me last night to see if I was ok. He told me to come in today and he will take a look at the burn. I don't know if I will bother him though. Some of the blisters burst last night. I will have him to call that in for me.

I hardly ever do anything like that but here lately I have just been stressed and moving too fast.

Curious, you always crack me up with that monkey. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks to all of you.

Ada

Ada,
Now the blisters have burst you need to gaurd against infection. I am glad you are seeing your doctor.
It will need to be covered by some non adherent dressing and depending on how big it is, some antibiotic cream. Silvazine is the best I think.
Please do not ever use food of any type on a burn, it tends to actually help cook the area as it retains the heat in the burn.
Immediate first aid is to run it under a running water tap for as long as you can stand it. Ice is not a good idea even without RSD.
Hope all is well now
Love Tayla

I know what you mean Ada, sometimes it takes me a little while to remember the old remedies, or I may have to call my mom, So now I have taken to writing them all down as they come up for quick references and for my family once I am too old to recall everything or when I am gone from this Earth. I am sure they will appreciate it one day. hahahahaha. Probably not until I am not here anymore, because they are always real quick to call me when they need help with some sort of accident or upset tummy or whatever the case may be.

Love, Peace & Blessings,
Marla

Hello all,

I am just referring back to Ada's request for burn treatment and plead with all to never use Mayonaisse on burns.
Oil being an ingredient in Mayo means that you are applying oil to a burn and in fact "cooking" your burn.
The heat that is in the skin following a burn must be removed immediately but this must be done with water only. To instantly cool the skin will often stop the formation of blisters.
I realise that there maybe some old remedies for some things that are tried and true but when it comes to using food stuffs to treat burns or infections it is not advised.
I have nursed people who have used butter, cold potato and various other things on burns who have done a great deal of permanent damage to the skin.

Cheers to everyone
Tayla

Default Going out on a limb

Hi
I'm going out on a limb here and after the horse has bolted.

At the first instance - first aid copious cool gentle running water to take the heat out of the burn before blistering. FIRST AID for far longer than you might think to get the heat from the deeper layers of skin IS CRITICAL hence lessening the degree of the burn & consequential blistering.

Soap & water is not the answer just lots of cool clear running water NEVER anything that contains oil.....as soap does as Tayla says you are continuing your cooking.

No ice - just cool clean running water in copious quantities - when you think it is cool - keep going.

Sorry if that treads on toes but it is the only way & the results should be better lessening the long term consequences &/c.
Best regards for a full recovery.
