Question RSD and Menstral Cycle

This one is for the ladies, do you all notice an increase in pain with the RSD when its that time of the month? I notice when I have a lot of swelling....water ...from my period....bloat...as some might call it....that my RSD pains are more intense....

Anyone else?

Debbie

Hello,

Me too I think it is because of a couple of reasons, one being hormones and their affect on the limbic system which is out of whack with RSD/CRPS and the extra fluid we get that causes our bloating pressing on our already sensitive nerves.
Who'd be a women hey?

regards
Tayla

I'm glad I'm not the only one this effects. I hate that time of the month. It drives me nuts. I have way more pain it seems durning that time. Of course when the weather is extremely hot or extremely cold, I have increased pain. I wish someone would find some answers and fixes for us. This bites

I used to have increased pain during my period. There's a family history of fibroids which make your periods really long, heavy and irregular. And then I developed a blood clotting disorder and was put on coumadin for it. This made my periods CRAZY! I couldn't leave the house because I was bleeding so much. The first period I had while on coumadin (a blood thinner), I thought that I was going to die from bleeding to death! So I went on Depo-Provera for birth control and to stop my periods. I don't get my period anymore, which is wonderful! And it wasn't the reason that I went on the Depo, but I don't have that predictable flare-up every month. It keeps your hormones constant. And hey, one less thing to think about! And by the way, medically you don't NEED to have a period. When they developed the Pill originally they weren't going to include the week of blank sugar pills that induce a period, but the women that they tested it on were so freaked out by not having a period that they but in the week of blanks. (Or so they claim- the Pill was developed by MEN! )

So if the pain is really bad, check out either taking the Pill continuously (omitting the week of blanks) or Depo-Provera. One shot every three months. It really works for me, and you don't have to remember a Pill every day.

I have been having serious heavy periods. Back in October I started around Oct. 4th and did not stop until the end of November. I had several test to find out what was going on. I was givin the option to either burn or freeze the uterus, and I chose to have it frozen, however the ins. wouldn't pay for that. So I'm tryin to hold off until they will allow me to. I have sent in many request to them to allow this. It's just really causing a lot of pain in my RSD arms from the swelling of the body from the cycle, and when it lasts for weeks, instead of days, it's really annoying.

Make them put you on Depo or something like it to try to stabilize you until you can have your procedure! You shouldn't be having periods that are that long- it can be dangerous! My mom started having out of control periods and she had several DNC's to try to eliminate them. They didn't work- the fibroids kept coming back and she eventually had to have a hysterectomy. (Her last fibroid was the size of a football- it couldn't be removed safely.) But they put her on birth control to try to reduce the size of the fibroids and reduce the bleeding during her periods. When you say burn or freeze the uterus, do you mean the whole thing, or just the internal lining to eliminate fibroids?

I had a biopsy of the lining of the uterus and nothing was found in that, I then had a camera ran up into the uterus, where they visually looked inside...there were no fibroids....That's why this is all so confusing. There is nothing to explain this at all.

When they freeze, they go into the uterus and insert ice, then use chemicals to cause the ice to freeze the uterus to sub zero temps...killing the lining...and yet they can still go back in there later to view it..

With the burning, once they burn it...it kills the lining and there is no entry point left, so they can never again go back inside to see whats going on in there...which is why I refuse to do this burning.

My grandmother died from cancer of the uterus...therefore I do not want to take a chance of burning it and never being able to see back in there.

I just wish this ins. would give in.

Hi Gigglebabe

I've always had a problem with this too, so much so that I was totally out of action for that week, so I started taking the pill without taking the sugar tablets- just skipping them so I didn't get a period. Perfect!

But now after having Hannah almost two years ago (who can believe she's almost two!? ) I've been having 14-27 day periods, with only a few days break before they start again. It's been driving me nuts! I tried going back on the pill but now it doesn't make any difference.

I've also had the hysteroscopy, d&c and biopsy with no great findings. If my rsd didn't get worse when I'm like this I could probably put up with it more, but I just can't keep going like this all the time, its exhausting and so disabling.

Anyway, I hope they can find some way to help you. We don't need more flareup triggers, hey?!

x Kate

I too have increased pain at that time of the month. It really sucks! I didn't notice it much in that first year, mostly because I had no pain relief so an "increase" in pain because of my period didn't register. I began seeing my pain doc in dec 05 and getting pain relief. It took awhile for anything to register with regard to my period and increased pain. The funny part being I wasn't even the one who made the connection! It was my hubby who began noticing the pattern and so one month asked me, when's your period due? I told him and then when it was over and the pain went down he mentioned it to me again. Every month after for about 3 months or so he kept an eye on when I was due and sure enough, there's that increase in pain! Glad hubby pays attention to things. LOL

Hugs,

Karen

Hi Debbie,

I am a bit confused about what you said. Uterine Ablation should not prevent further follow up investigation of your uterus. Only if you have a full hysterectomy with removal of your cervix will there be a hinderance to vaginal hysteroscope.
They should still also be able to laparoscope you abdominally.
It is important for you as you said, because your history demands you have regular investigations.
Perhaps your doctor has not explained himself very well to you
Wishing you well and an answer to this problem.
Cheers Tayla
