Default Worst Doctor

I haven’t been on the forum since I have been suffering from the sacro pain. (It hurts to sit much so I haven’t been on the computer much.) It has been 2 ½ months and I finally went to see an orthpaedic doctor. He was absolutely the worst doctor I have seen in the 5 years that I have had RSD. When he pulled the little triangle hammer out, I told him he couldn’t use that on my knees because I have RSD. Well, he went on about how I couldn’t possibly have it for 5 years because it goes away on its own in 2 years at the most. He then asked who said I had it and what tests were performed. He said there was only one test that determined RSD and asked what tests I had done. I proceeded to tell him and he kept saying no that’s not the one. I asked him which test he was referring to and he said I had to tell him. I figured out he was looking for thermomagry (sp?) as the answer and said that one also. He felt my hands and knees and said I didn’t feel like I had RSD. He asked what the pain felt like as there was only one type of pain in RSD. I told him I wasn’t there for him to treat the RSD, I just wanted him to treat my sacro. He said I would need to have an MRI and bone scan (convenient that he has those in his office). Then he wanted to know how many doctors told me I had RSD. I told him dozens. He said they were wrong. I asked him what I had then and he said he didn’t know but it wasn’t RSD. At this point I knew I had wasted my time and tears started spilling from my eyes. I went to leave the little inner office and he said “so you don’t want to have the tests done?” I told him he was entitled to have his own opinion on RSD. He followed me out into the hall and chuckled (in front of his staff) “I’m glad you said I can have my own opinion.” I said, “well, it doesn’t agree with 99% of the other doctors that I have seen.”

I got outside and realized I left my xrays. I went back and while I was waiting for the nurse to retrieve them, I went over and picked up one of his business cards and wrote the letters RSD on the back of it. I gave it to the nurse and told her to tell him to google it.

This guy looked like he hadn’t been in medical school in over 50 years. I don’t know if I can post names on this forum or not. Just wanted to let you newbies know that some of these older docs are not up on RSD.

Also, want to thank those of you that have spoken back to docs. That gave me the courage.

Thanks for letting me vent,
Linmarie

Linmarie,
I think you did the right thing for not continue to see this doc. I have similar experience with many doctors who undermind my pain and symptoms and kept on saying i did not have RSD due to the lack of the classical and obvious symptoms. These doc were all wrong.

Oh my gosh.. Linmarie!!
Sweetie, it is so good to see you post! I am so sorry what you are going through!! I was wondering what happened to you, and here you are!! That Dr. who said the RSD go's away in what?? 2 yrs. is a total idiot!! I am so sorry he said this to you!! the nerve of these ***-holes!! I don't know if you remembered one of my old RSD doctors who said "RSD burns itself out"!! Such rubbish! Geeeezzz!! LOL OMG and then that dumb Dr. felt your hands and said , "It didn't feel like you had RSD"? I would have walked right out of that office, pronto!! And I am so very proud of you for what you said and wrote on the back of his card, lady!! "Good going"!! I had "Doogie Houser" quacks just like him. I'm so sorry you cried honey. But you did the right thing. I seen so many here in Ohio, until I looked, researched, did my homework asked question's. You will find that one special "Young wipper-snapper.. LOL " and he or maybe she will be a God send to you, so "Kudo's" to you Linmarie as I am tossing my hat in the air(Like on the Mary TylerMoore show) for what you did to show that 'ol goat a thing or too!!~Love ya, Desi

Dear LinMarie

I'm so sorry to hear abot your dr - but unfortunatly there are so many of them aren't there??! they just don't get that RSD can exist or how bad it can feel. I once got told I couldn't have RSD because I'd allowed them to use the hammer I'd refused but been told I'd been uncooperative and that I had to have it used or they wouldn't deal with me so allowed it, screamed, and apparently that's still not RSD as my pain didn't appear "bad enough"... erm fine?! I hate it when drs make assumptions about it! I've had other drs being certain that RSD burns itself out after 5 years and anything after that must be psychological grrr. So, any further on sorting out the sacro? hope the dr googled RSD and found out some more about it.

Oh well... tons of love and hope your sacro can be dealt with. Do recliner chairs help it at all? lying on your side etc?

Love

Rosie xxxxx

Hi Numb, Desi, Rosie,

Thanks for your support. While I was giving this guy a rating on RateMDs, I realized he hadn't even looked at my xrays (which I had hand-carried into his office) & he wanted more tests? What a quack! Anyways, I went to see another ortho (who actually looked at my xrays) and said I irritated by SI joint & sent me to PT. So, I'm trying that now. Still hurts like crazy & I'm typing standing up.

Thanks again,
\Linmarie
