Hi LinJane, I have taken skelaxin in the past and liked it. I may be asking my Dr. about meds, as my jerking ,spasms have come back after being off Neurotin, Lyrica for 7-8 months. I Don't want to back on Lyrica-weight gain was terrible lost 30 lbs after going off.
Have you thought about another pain Dr.? I wouldn't be able to handle being questions in that tone. There needs to trust between a dr. and patient and apparently he does't trust or show respect for you. Apparently, he doesn't have the understand of RSD. That's how I personnally view his remarks. Or you could have an honest talk with him, about it makes you feel when he questions meds. And you need your Dr. to believe in you and trust you. Honestly, it really wouldn't be acceptable to me. I dislike very much being on these meds, who wouldn't want to be like we used to be, driving a car, working, exercising, vacations, etc. So much has been taken from us because of RSD, meds make our life tolerable and out of tortous pain.
Let us know which drug you end up liking. Like I said, I think I'm next.
Take care, your friend loretta hugs:hug:

i prefer zanaflex 4mg tabs only for bad spasms, the capsules made me ill. but this will make me nap for an hour or two just like most muscle relaxers. i think soma works best if you dont want to nap right away. these days i dont need them daily so i might need to try something lighter like baclofen. if the spasms are not too bad i use valium and sometimes ativan works. i start with a half pill and i take more as needed.

I take half a soma pill like six times a day, as needed, sometimes less than that. It makes me sleepy if I take too much, so I only take the one half. Beware of soma in that it has aspirin in it. I have to take it with some food though, ulcers hurt me if I don't.

Regular Soma 350mg does not have aspirin in it. The oldie Soma Compound does, but is rarely used anymore, since it has only 200mg of Soma per tablet.

Soma is not a good muscle relaxant for those using opiates.
It is metabolized to the old tranquilizer meprobamate which is the active compound. This is quite habit forming as well.
Soma is involved yearly in many deaths due to respiratory failure combined with opiates.
one example in detail:

3rd letter down.

With all the muscle relaxants out there, it would be prudent to choose one that does not have the characteristics of Soma IMO.

I have been taking soma for 25 years. It is the best moscle relaxer I have ever taken. My dr. prescribed 4 a day when I first started taking them I only take them when I need them and have never had to take more. Years ago they were called soma compound, the compound was asperin. Now they are just soma, minus the asperin.

I am on skelaxin but the doc put me on 800 mgs 3 times a day but I only take it twice a day because I am afraid of what it could do to my organs. I don't know if it helps as i am on a lot of other meds and don't know what does what anymore.

Sincerely,
Tracy

muscle relaxor

Okay there are tons of muscle relaxers out there... Norflex is a great one with little side effects....my doc even said I could work on it. Yet it also didn't do much for me. It may be a good idea if you can't find one that works for you to try message therapy too....it really help my muscles. I am talking true therapy though not a spa treatment.
Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time and I hope you find a solution soon!
positive thoughts your way,
Jennelle
