I stopped having hot flashes 1 1/2 years prior to the accident with resultant RSD but they came back in full force. My pain md has me taking a non-prescription thyroid medicine called Idoral which seems to sorten the number of sweats and so gives some relief (my thyroid tests are fine) although any outdoor work or hard housework makes me look like I've been standing under a waterfall. I've given up looking classy at work and keep a down quilt on my "bad" leg and a chinese/japanese hand fan close by at work and home for those hot moments. I hate the cold weather because the pain intensifies but know with the coming hot weather I'm in for the wet hair look. I refuse to be embarassed by something I can't control jbut then I call my surgery scar my badge of courage. Lynnie....ONE MOMENT CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING!

Last year I had a year of low grade fever and hot flashes, so much so that it was thought I was in perimenopauze, which it turned out I wasn't. I still can't explain it how it happened, but that was the year it spread to my arms.

I may be able to explain this. The hot flashes are a part of rsd. Little know, low grade fevers are also. It's funny you mention it happened while it was spreading. Obviously your body reacted to the spread with hot flashes and low grade fever. When I first got rsd I ran a low grade fever for some time. Each time is spread I had it happen. Hot flashes I deal with all the time.
I will say before anyone pipes up with "don't blame everything on rsd", it's always a good idea to check out things like this to rule out something else it could be. A fever could be because of an infection you don't know you have and a bazillion other things. Hot flashes = menopause or peri-menopause. I always try to remember to advise having something checked out if it goes on for more than a few days. It's just hot flashes are common and fever is less common but many run one. RSD messes up every single part of our nervous system. So things like blood pressure can mess up. The part of the nervous system used for regulating body temperature is messed with. We can't regulate our own body temp so we deal with hot flashes, being either cold or hot or alternating between the two. Hope this helps everyone with understanding the rsd "mysteries". LOL Karen

In Remembrance
|
It's after 3.30 am, and I'm still not asleep. One of those nights that nothing is right.
The pain (weather here) has been torturous since Saturday. I'm taking breakthrough meds. I've switched the ceiling fan from med to low and back, half a dozen times already. I get hot, I get cold, the draft is annoying. Understead of the normal "overall" type of pain, I have that, but I'm getting lots of "Spot" pain, localized in any weird place. Nauseated. Sweaty and cold. I've noticed with rsd, my body temp usually runs a degree cooler than normal. But, I've had that "I got a low grade temperature" feeling since Sat. too. Well, good nite all. Have a good day tomorrow! Pete asb |
