Default Total numbness in limb- Scared

Hi,today after resting I woke up with severe burning pain in both ears,(normal) and my right leg is toally numb, my thigh all the way to my foot. It is as heavy as a dumbbell trying to lift it to walk. Infact I can not walk with it with out heavy support of my cane. I have never had full limb numbness
Infact, numbness has not been an big part of my RSD. I have sections on my spine that have no feeling, ditto on my leg but not numbness.
This is frightening me- not sure what it means. But I do know it couldnt be good. It is my orginal injury leg.You can see all of my veins but this is normal - they are always swololen during flares in that leg from vascoconstriction- very painful.
Should I see medical help?? My leg feels like it weighs 200 pounds. thanks CZ very wroried

I'm very sorry to hear that you're experiencing this problem.
I don't know who you use for your medical support, but, I'd be on the phone with one Immediately!
Total numbness can be serious.
Do you have a neurologist?
After you've moved around a bit do you get any feeling? Any changes?

I'd guess that your neuro would have you go to the ER.

So, My personal answer to your question, "Should I see medical help"?
Is a Definite YES!

I hope you find some relief, and healing!

Pete

Yes I suggest calling dr too or ER.
It could be a blood flow stoppage somewhere
like when my arms fall asleep if I have them over head or under my pillow while sleeping.

Especially call or go to ER if it doesn't normalize quickly... it might have been a positional thing if it does return to your normal.

my arms normalize as soon as I change position but it takes me awhile to get them moved around since they are pretty much dead up to my shoulders.
I have to use my shoulders to swing/fling the arms out to the sides..

but then they go thru the pins and needles while the blood is returning.

I agree with the others... seek immediate medical assistance!!

This could have happened by the position you were sleeping... but it is also possible that you have a blood clot that is preventing blood flow or a nerve is pinched somewhere causing your leg to go numb.

Complete numbness is never good if it lasts for very long.

Please let us know what happens and how you are feeling!

Abbie

Hi CZ,

So sorry that you are dealing with all of this right now - I can't imagine how scared you must be!!

I agree with what the others have said to call your Pain Management Doctor/Neurologist ASAP and see what they say or go to the ER.

I have had numbness before but it doesn't sound as bad as yours. My numbness usually occurs when my RSD limbs are really swollen. When it first started happening, my PM Dr was very concerned and did an ultrasound. The results came back OK but showed that I had severe muscle swelling which was probably pushing on the nerves and affecting the feelings.

I really hope that it is nothing to worry about and you are most definitiely in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Please speak to your doctor about it and keep us updated when you can - you shouldn't have to be dealing with all of this!!

Thinking about you.
Alison.

My legs are always numb. My left leg where the rsd started is of course the worst, but they don't stay numb 24/7 either. That makes me worried there may be something else going on. I hope you've gone to the doc. Keeping you in my thoughts until you're able to update.

Hugs,

Karen
