Thank you for your prayers and kind words, Linda. Claire's parents (my nephew and his wife) are truly an inspiration to me and to many others as well. All I've done is share their story. I am continuously amazed at their strength and faith. They appreciate (as do I) all the prayers and good wishes all the dear folks here have offered up. I'm hoping that Claire will gain strength and determination as this phase of her treatment ends soon.

Recent Update:
"I wasn't going to update this soon, but we wanted to let you know how well Claire is doing. Since yesterday afternoon, she has completely turned around. She is full of energy, happy and wanting to do more. She is even eating well. Today, she stood up while holding on to me for 10 seconds. We did this three times. I am so encouraged by her progress. Blue Skies www.whereskiesareblue.org contacted us yesterday because they have an opening for the next beach retreat May 29 - June 4 and wanted to know if we could fill it. Since Claire is not scheduled for a treatment, I am taking the kids to the beach next week. Sadly, Seth cannot join us because of work. I am bringing our babysitter, Brittany, with us for extra help. We are all so excited! I am most looking forward to the parent support group everyday. The last time we went with Blue Skies we left feeling hopeful, refreshed and even a little healed. Thank you Lord for this unexpected blessing! I am still asking God for Claire to walk this week. I am already so grateful for the improvement she is making. She also still needs to gain weight. We are really working on that. Thank you for praying so faithfully for us."

She looks so pretty and happy. Makes me want to just jump in the computer and given her a big hug.

Latest Update:
"Wow, it has been a long time since I have updated. Since we left for the beach, it has been a whirlwind around here. I will try to spare you all of the details to keep this as short as possible. First, we had a blast at Blue Skies! Claire's nurse that she had from surgery back in October was there and took care of us the whole week. She came as a volunteer with Blue Skies. We also got to bring our babysitter Brittany to help out since Seth couldn't come. I could not have done this trip without these two ladies and I sincerely mean that. Claire was miserable outside, so she spent a lot of time indoors. She did have fun and even got to go in the water a bit. I got to spend a lot of quality time with the boys which made the whole trip worth it. Claire has made significant improvement. We got a walker for her and she started physical therapy. She is getting stronger everyday. She is acting like her old self before we started treatment. We have about three weeks off before she goes in for an office visit. We are still not sure when the next course of antibody treatment will be. We are so ready to be done with all of this. I have more to share about some exciting things God is doing in our lives. I will write more later." On a separate note, the nurse she mentioned that went to Blue Skies with them turned out to be an old childhood friend of mine! What a small world! We went to the same church when we were very young (elementary school age). She remembered me, too! Funny how people you once knew come back into your life.

Latest Update:
"Since we have a small break, we thought we would share what God is doing in our lives as a family. Before I get to that, Claire is doing so well. I would say that she is much like she was before she even started treatment one year ago. She is almost walking completely on her own. She hasn't completely let go, but she is almost there. We feel so relieved. She has an appointment on 7/7 and I think we will talk about the date for course III of antibody therapy. We are ready to move forward. She hasn't gained any weight. I believe she won't until treatment is completely over. She is taking Accutane every two weeks and she just doesn't eat well when she is on that. She has stopped losing weight, so I'll take that. Of course, we pray for her to gain and I believe God can work, but I am at peace with His timing as well. Before Claire was diagnosed, May 2010, Seth and I had been seriously praying about serving as missionaries to Spain with Word of Life. Seth had taken a trip to Barcelona to look at the ministry and see if it was a good fit for us. We had sensed God’s calling in our lives to this work and we were confident that He was moving us in that direction. This decision was not one that we took lightly and had been in the works for many years. As many of you know, we have worked with Word of Life over the years here in the States as well as overseas. We were making plans to attend a missionary conference in June of 2010 with Word of Life to be appointed as missionaries to Spain. This is when we got Claire’s diagnosis. We were devastated by the news of her cancer as well as not moving forward to Spain. We couldn’t understand God’s timing, but we decided not to try to understand, but just to trust His sovereign plan and accept it with joy. The joy part came much later. So here we are now a year after treatment and Claire has been “no evidence of disease” since November 2010. PRAISE GOD!!! I love writing that and telling people. As you know, her treatment is not over…..yet. Three more therapies and we are done, Lord willing. We still feel God is leading us to Spain. Knowing that the missionary conference was soon approaching again this year, we prayed for peace and direction. We discussed our thoughts with all of her doctors. Each one encouraged us to move forward with our lives and make plans for the future. In fact, our radiation oncologist was thrilled that we would be in Barcelona. She said it has some of the best pediatric cancer research in the world. There is also an excellent pediatric hospital about 45 minutes from where we would be living. All of Claire’s follow-up scans and survivor testing can be done there and sent back to a contact here in Atlanta. By the time we reach Spain, she should only have them once every six months and then eventually once a year."
