Most recent update:
"Today was Claire's 4th birthday and we feel grateful that she was able to enjoy her birthday. Yesterday we had a little party for her and she had a great time. So please pray for tomorrow and the rest of the week. We go in at 10:30AM to get a new central line put in. Claire will start the antibody therapy shortly after. We are told this week will be fairly easy as most children tolerate this first week of Course II well. We should go home on Friday for the weekend and will be back Monday, 4/25 for the second week of Course II. Please pray that Claire will not have any positive blood cultures this course. Please pray that she is strengthened in her spirit to endure this week and next. Please pray that there will be no complications with the new line."

Today's update:
"We just wanted to check in to let you know Claire is doing great. The line placement went smoothly. She recovered very well and isn't even sore. The last two times she had a CVL placed she was very sore for at least two days. She is only getting one drug this week and has tolerated it very well which was expected. We are busy running around the hospital trying to keep her entertained. Next week will be a hard week when they start the antibodies. We know she will probably be on oxygen, get a fever and just not feel good. The big prayer is that she does not get bacteria in her new central line. God has been gracious to us all along and we know He will continue to show us favor. We trust that He has a carefully laid out plan for all of this even if it doesn't make sense. We choose to have faith."

Today's update:
"We had a refreshing weekend together at home. We attended Easter service at our church, First Baptist Woodstock, yesterday followed by lunch and an egg hunt at my parent's house. I am so grateful that we were able to be home this weekend and God gave us a time of refreshing from His Word. Today, Claire and I will head back down to the hospital to start the antibody therapy. The therapy will actually start tomorrow and we will most likely go home Saturday if everything goes well. Please pray for these specific things: - Negative blood cultures - The medication she receives while getting the antibodies make her hold fluid which means she might need a cathetar. Please pray that her body will move those fluids without help. - Pray that they can keep her oxygen levels under control. - Pray that no other complications would arise that would stop this course. - Please pray for peace for all of us. Claire is tired of being in the hospital. Please pray again for understanding beyond her age. Please pray for the boys too! - Please pray for our friend Jack who is now on hospice. Pray for all the children who do not have a parent with them all the time while they are in the hospital. Thank you for continuing to pray for us. We believe God hears these prayers and answers them! He has been so gracious to us through all of this and we trust Him."

Today's update from Claire's Mom:
"I always struggle with how to begin these entries. Yesterday was a good day for Claire. She started the antibody therapy around 11:00AM, at the full dose and did not have any problems. She did not require any oxygen or breathing treatments. She got a fever around 3:30PM, which is "normal" for the therapy. The last hour of the treatment, she broke out in hives which is also expected. They gave her an antihistamine and she was fine. She did need oxygen during the night while she slept, but her blood pressure is great. So today, she is dealing with a high fever and all that goes with that. She is also needing some respitory therapy to keep her lungs open and clear. The antibody will only make this worse along with the morphine and benedryl. These are not permanent problems and for lack of better words, par for the course. It is a little unnerving to see your child on oxygen, but they keep assuring me that she is not in any danger. As soon as the therapy is over, she will bounce right back within 24 hours or so. Overall, Claire is doing so well this time. I know it is because of all the prayers that are being offered up in faith to our sovereign Lord. We are not people who face trials without hope. Our future is as secure and bright as His promises."

Another short update:
"Claire seems to be more comfortable today. She is not coughing as much and her fever comes and goes. This is great because it has been high for two days and now it's just low when she has one. Her breathing is still laboured, but they are able to keep it under control with breathing treatments every six hours. Overall, Claire is doing really well this week. Thank you so much for praying and please keep praying! They have lifted the restriction for under 12! This means her brothers can come see her now as well as all of her little friends. We are so excited."

Today's update:
"Claire is back in the hospital. We were released last night around 6:30pm even though my gut was telling me we should stay. She got a blood transfusion before we left and was still lethargic afterwards. She couldn't stay awake and her belly was distended. She also started having diarrhea. Her face and ankles were swollen. I knew she had a clinic appointment today, so I put her in the bed with us last night to keep an eye on her. After having labs drawn, it turns out that Claire's counts were a little off in different areas. Her white blood counts were high, high bilirubin, low phosphorous and low potassium. It's not surprising after the antibody therapy which revved up her system. They also think the stomach problems could be c-diff from the antibiotics. This can be cleared up with medication. The other issues can be taken care of with customized IV fluids. So hopefully we can get her feeling better and back home soon. So we are here for observation and IV fluids. Please pray that we can get a clear answer on the c-diff. This is just part of the treatment journey. It's a roller-coaster for sure."

Please continue to pray for Claire and her parents:
"Just a quick update to ask you to pray. Claire is still not improving, but they think they understand why. I am too tired to go into all of it. The first test for c-diff came back negative, but that is common. They will need three samples to confirm. They decided to go ahead and treat her for the c-diff until those test come back. Please pray that Claire's body will correct itself which is what her doctor feels is best for Claire. If we can get her diarrhea taken care of, that might help. The antibody therapy is very hard on the body and this one hit Claire very hard. The frustrating thing is that every child responds differently and the side effects are unpredictable. We were totally unprepared for how difficult this treatment would be. I am asking God to heal her and give the doctors Divine wisdom to know exactly what is going on and how to help her recover. She has not eaten in 7 days and I am very concerned. They plan to start her on TPN tonight to help with that until she gets better."
