Everyone please take a moment to remember April 19, 1995 at 9:02 a.m. when the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City was bombed.
It is hard to believe that it has been 13 years since 168 people, including 19 little children were killed. So many innocent people died that tragic day. It was my 44th birthday and I was on the phone listening to a message from a friend wishing me a happy birthday when the blast occured. I remember it like it was yesterday and will never forget the sound or the feeling. I was looking out my patio window on a beautiful clear day and the blast occured. It was like nothing I have ever heard before. The blast was so strong that I saw the patio door glass move. I lived about 7 miles northwest of the site and I thought a car had hit my apartment building. I dressed immediately and went outside and everyone was outside looking around. We all knew something happened but everything looked fine. Within minutes live coverage began and the horror was revealed. I could not stop watching the TV coverage and could not stop crying for the longest time. I did not lose a loved one in the bombing but it seemed everyone I knew had a loss. Everyone for miles felt and heard the blast. It is a day of sadness that Oklahoma will never forget.

It is hard to believe it has been 13 years. Being that close it must of been very scary. It is hard to believe things like this happen, especially when we are least expecting it.
Thanks for remining me of this. Darlene

Thanks for the reminder Becky. I will never forget that day and how sad it was only to hear it was an American who did this.
Even though it was your birthday, please try to find a moment through the memory to enjoy today.

Wow, I remember it like it was yesterday. Total disbelief in what I was hearing and seeing.
I went there a few years ago to visit the memorial and it just wrecked me so much, I never got out of the car.

AMN,
I have not been able to visit the memorial. I only live about 4 miles from it now but just can't bring myself to go. I have driven by it and it is so beautiful and peaceful. Even after all these years, I can't get out of the car and walk through it. I get too emotional but one day I will be ready to walk through it and stop at every chair.

Very hard to imagine that it's been 13 yrs. I remember the day well. My neice was a student at Oklahoma City University at that time and I was praying constantly until I received word that she was ok, just a few broken windows on campus. In July of '95, we visited the site while traveling home from Texas. Seeing the tree of life that was barely noticable as a TREE, but lives on to this day...a church with a big banner on the side saying "God be with us all, but our church family shall NOT be moved", I believe they had services under a tent beside the building that was considered unsafe. Seeing buildings with paintings on the side where they'd gone in to search for victims indeed was just something that make your stomach churn. We took pictures of all the flowers, photos, etc that had been attached to a chainlink fence surrounding the area.
In 2003, that same neice was married in Oklahoma City. The day before her wedding, several of us visited the memorial. It still touched me, but in a different way...in a way such as "those innocent victims are looking down at us as angels in heaven, saying that this person that caused it all, shall indeed be punished by our Heavenly Father". I think the memorial is very well done, remembering each and every one that was in any way effected by this horrible day in the history of our country.
