Wiz, your dad sounds much like my mom. I honestly don't know what to expect. We'll see. I want her with me so I can take care of things but she's stubborn. Yet, she gets angry at us when we can't be at her beck and call if she gets confused. I am putting it in God's hands. We have discussed having someone come in once a week to check her meds and stuff.

I honestly do not think she needs a home, just someone to help with the little things. It's her choice for sure but I wont like it if she chooses a nursing home over one of us. I worked in nursing homes and as God is my witness, Jim will never see one if I can help it. Not all nursing homes are bad, not saying that, but I believe in taking care of family if you can and they let you.

I even tried bribing her saying how much money she'd have to herself coming to live with us. LOL

Sandy, I'm just now getting to check in on this thread. I hate to hear your mom is still struggling. I know how frustrating it is for her to feel like the quality of her life is slipping away and there's not much she can do about it. It makes them want to dig in their heels even more. I struggle with these issues with my mom and listen to DHs sister who is trying to see to their Mom. It is so sad what aging and illness can take from us before we are ready for it.

I am sorry it's been awhile since I updated on mom. She had an eeg done and it came out abnormal. Her brain activity is slower than normal so the neuro is sending her for a MRI. He says he'll talk more with her next week but thinks she may have had a stroke when she had her seizures.

She had a ct scan at the er but he wants a closer look. Her memory is shot and he said that would indicate a stroke based on her eeg, memory and her arms are all messed up since the last seizure. Oh, but he says she can still live alone. I don't get it.

I'll call her later on to talk more and see what she wants to do. I am sure she'll wait to make any decisions until she sees him again next week.

He's really not dumb, he's actually a very smart doctor. He didn't make a final decision just yet and said he wants all the testing done first. If she did have a stroke he has a load of other testing to do on her before he will say one way or the other. Right now in his medical opinion, she is OK to live alone and said he sees no reason for her to pull up stakes. This information just came from my sister and mom.

It's really us making the big stink about her living on her own. I think I need to step back and stop trying to be the "caregiver' all the time. It's in my nature to want to take over, she's sick, it's my mom. But, I am doing my best to wait for all the tests to come in. That's what mom has asked of me and I promised her I would respect her wishes.

She does seem better as each day progresses. She isn't any good once the sun goes down. I teased her she is the opposite of vampires. She knows she has a hard time with some things. Maybe if it turns out she had a stroke they can get her into occupational therapy to help teach her how to do certain things at home to make life a little easier. Plus, she is under lease at her apartment until July next year. The only way out of the lease is by her doctor saying she cannot live alone.

Patience is not one of my strong points but I am working on it.

Mom didn't have a stroke!!!!

And he says he thinks her eyes will improve. He said her eyes are fine, it's the brain sending the signals down that's the problem with her eyes. He said time and healing should make it better. He thinks the same with her memory but I am not on board that one yet.

My prayers are going out for Sandy and her mother. God is there, and you have only to reach out and ask for help and thank Him. His picture of "the best thing" can be different than ours, but he supports ours, too. Love and hugs - billie
