As I have mentioned before; when possible, the Pain Management should be on staff at the same hospital; especially with surgery is involved.
My last three surgeries; I spoke with surgeons and PM doctor before time and all doctors were on board. The surgeons easily turned my pain care over to my Pain Management doctor/s. I had some serious surgery done and hospitalized for two weeks. It was so good to have my PM doctor visit daily making sure all pain issues were being taken care of. Now; like you, my last surgery (cancer) had the nurse from "hell" as well. I had requested and received the report from the hospital. When I read what she put in there; I was livid; but didn't do anything about it. Two years later, I am still upset with myself for not having reported her, as well as taken up with what she wrote in the report. Hindsight is always good; but sometimes we learn from what we did or didn't do. You are remarkable having gone thru what you have and still being so kind to anyone here you can help. Wishing you and hubby all the strength you need to cope and handle what both of you have been through. Gerry |

Met with the girls on Monday, gosh they were wonderful, sensitivity testing done along with some programming. Noticing a good result with the hip pains and upper back, lower still troubling but not as bad as previous. Still feeling the results of surgery and hope it settles within the fortnight.
It's been a tough 3 weeks, mum collapsed again on Saturday night and hit her head, taken to hospital where they found 2 brain bleeds, trauma from hitting her head, but as yet no clue why she keeps having these terrible vertigo attacks and falling. She had 2 again yesterday while in hospital. Very worrying indeed.

hi Pam,
great to hear some improvement at least hips and upper back and that the reps were helpful. praying for continued improvement for you. So troubling about your mother with her inexplicable vertigo issues. My mother in law had that and it was her BP spiking then suddenly dropping. She is on BP meds but, she is kept in a wheelchair now because she has fallen too often. I hope they find out what it is very soon. my best, d. Quote:

I've gone into a bad back spasm again... I'm scheduled to have an Epidural sleeve injection procedure done on December 17th and will have to stay overnight. Apparently it's going to be done at a few levels, it won't kill the nerves off like a rhyzotomy but will bathe the root nerves and give like a sedative effect to them. The aim is to allow the nerves to calm down so I can recommence my pain mgt physio program and build up the muscles to give strength and support. Then when the nerves are back to functioning the muscles will have been built up and can cope... Gosh I sure hope so. I can't believe it's December again and for the 6th year in a row, I'm having yet another procedure in hospital just before Xmas. Please pray for me that this year, unlike all the previous times, I don't have another bowl blockage and end up back in hospital for the new year.
On a brighter note, they found mum had a CSF and she had two ops last week to fix it and will come home from hospital some time this week once they get her BP stabilised.

Oh Pam, Really sorry these spasms are causing you to need the Epidural injections. I had a number of them a while back with pain mgmt; but they were spaced. I pray you have a good outcome and please Lord; no blockage. Gerry |

Day 3 following the nerve root epidural sleeve injections. No referred pain to the right hip (yay) considerably reduced referred pain to the left hip. He could only do L3 & L4, L5 and S1 so tightly fused he was unable to get the tip of the needle anywhere near the nerve root. Anyway, with the reduced pain I can only deduce the problem is the L2/L3 vertebrae which as we know is on it's way out... I wish now he could have had a go at L2 root nerve as the neurosurgeon said earlier this year that disc is completely destroyed. So with my review in February if things continue as they are, I will enquire about the possibility of an L2 injection. In the meantime, I'm going to take it easy and try to make the most of this current reduction in pain.
Having pneumonia in summer is hard, the coughing has put added stress on my spine and I'm feeling pain in areas I've not experienced before, I'm positive it's just a result of the constant coughing. My mum is back again in hospital and because of my pneumonia I've not been allowed to visit, it's over ten days now and I feel ever so wretched (and yes guilty) She has had subsequent MRI(s) CT scans, mylogram and another blood patch done on Tuesday the day before my procedure. It's been a terrible way for her to experience what we all go through on a regular basis, hubby had to laugh when she detailed how harsh the procedures are and how painful. He said to her Pam never complains of them so she stated hers are over and above what I've ever had.. I just want her to get well and regain her independence, but I think it will fast continue to disappear. The festivities are upon us and our world turned upside down with the atrocious acts carried out this last week all over the world. All I want for Christmas this year is peace and harmony. Let us all pray together and partake in whatever celebrations of life we can. Don't let terrorism and the brutal acts humans perpetuate change our own strength of force. We here on NT are all strong characters and blessed with worldwide online friendships.

Left hip referred pain creeping back, a new neuron obviously lighting up to let my brain know hey, I'm here, don't forget about me. Remember the movie line "I'm back" I feel like my spine is maliciously laughing at me today.

hi I live in the uk and back in 1996 I had a car crash I needed a laminectomy at L4/L5 and all was well for around 5 years .then I started to get worse and one morning woke in agony .this is when I had my second spinal operation a re do of the original and S1 was also chopped at .I knew as soon as I came to from the operation that it was a bad one because I was in pain and could not stand up straight .anyway as they weeks and months rolled on I just went downhill and my pain got so bad that NO ONE would take me on so I started looking into ADR and again no one would take me on but then one consultant near me said that I was unsuitable for ADR and offered me ALIF so as I had no choice I went in on the 29th dec 2011 for my multi level ALIF that was over 3 years ago and I have been in pain since .so my consultant has said that he can do nothing for me and said just keep on with the meds .but I am thinking about the nevro and that's what brings me here .I don't know yet if I am a suitable person as I have not yet seen my local pain consultant .I will update as and when I know .thank you for kindness and for letting me join the forum
