I have my PJ's on too, Barb. :o I'll be home tonight. I never have gone out on New Year's Eve.

Do ya'll remember any of the old traditions your parents or other family followed for New Years?

My MIL would never do laundry on New Year's Day. Said it was bad luck. My mother would always have black eyed peas & rice on New Year's Day. Said that brought good luck. I think I've done laundry and eaten black eyed peas on that day.....guess they cancelled each other out! :rolleyes:

Debbie D 12-31-2009 07:40 PM

Hello everyone!! I hope all of you wonderful friends on NT have a safe and great NYE and that 2010 brings peace and fulfillment to your lives!! Really!

DH and I finally finished filling out SSDI forms. Phew...an agent from the local SSA office called this morning to talk about us finishing it...she eased my mind concerning if I'd done it all right...gave me the fax number to send the medical release form...so we're done, for now. Took untold hours...and a few curse words. Glad we're finished with this form for now.
We're going over to some friends' house around 8 pm. I made my scrumptious cheesecake to bring...mmmm. We've had light meals today so I won't feel so bad about munching. Lost 3 lbs. so far this week...been sweating and walking to get this flubber off of me:(

Well, I sure hope you are all safe and have fun, whether you're infront of the tv bundled up in a snuggie or out having a party... I love all of you...thank you so much for all of your advice and all of your hugs this year...really couldn't have made it through the rough spots without it:D
I am blessed beyond belief for your input into my life!:D

JustWeave 12-31-2009 08:54 PM

Evenin' all. Well another year is coming to an end and I survived. Woohoo! Plans for new adventures in the coming year are both exciting and scary. I want to make it easier to see and enjoy my favorite things. I also want to persue the idea of further education a bit more.

So... Here's to a new year and new adventures.

Stay safe everyone! I want to "see" all of you next year. And thanks for helping me through the last one. :hug::grouphug::hug:

sabimax 01-01-2010 12:42 AM

SandyC 01-01-2010 10:02 AM

Morning all! Happy New Years day! My brother just left to head back to OK. It's a good day to travel, no one on the roads.

My plans today are to get this xmas stuff down and put away. I am sick of looking at it. lol

No plans for dinner yet. I need to go look at the freezer and decide. Maybe I will have Chris pick up KFC. hahaha

:hug: to all.

barb02 01-01-2010 10:52 AM

Happy New Year everyone! I was in bed by 10:30; woke up at 1:00 to pee, and said Happy New Year:rolleyes: Kelly, We always had sauerkraut and pork at New Years. You had to eat at least a bit for good luck. I actually bought some to make in my crock pot, but since I am dealing with IBS right now, I think I will hold off on making it. It does not sound like a good idea:o

Kitty 01-01-2010 11:24 AM

Hi everyone! I was actually up at midnight! Several neighbors did fireworks so I would have been awake anyway...:rolleyes: Surprisingly it didn't scare the cats. Probably because I was right there with them and everytime one would go off I'd say "It's OK, it's OK". They'd look at me like "why do you keep making that noise?". :p

My ON isn't much better but it isn't any worse so I'm thankful for that. I don't have much planned for today or even this weekend. I'll ask DS to drive me to the grocery store so I can get a few things....and just get out of the house for a bit. It's funny.....when I know I can go as I please I don't mind staying home. When I know I can't I want to get out! :rolleyes:

Everyone have a good New Year's Day. :grouphug:

FinLady 01-01-2010 12:39 PM

My saurakraut and pork is perking away in my slow cooker. It's a tradition for hubby's family, so maybe it's a northeast ohio thing. :) Found a great recipe for the cooker that uses apple juice to help sweeten everything up. :)

My family's only tradition was the countdown. The only time as kids that if we managed to stay awake for it, we could be up that late. :) My mom's family used to do stroganoff New Years' Eve. Homemade to the nines and twice as large. :)

We stayed up watching movies with the countdown inbetween. Think we managed to crash around 3. We used to go out, but decided we like the thought of having the bed just down the hall instead of trying to navigate roads to reach it. :)

Happy New Year everyone!

sabimax 01-01-2010 12:44 PM

Hey all,
Well yoga, and went to church with the little two, can not believe they both happened to toddle down the stairs at 8ish this morning. They both were up till I think 1am wow!!

anyhow so we drove to church, since the three of us... now reading a good book. Was thinking like Sandy of taking tree stuff down, but now I am tired out... we are suppose to go have steak dinner at my parents, also my sister and her family there too. so 10 kids total!! always fun. might need a nap though as I work tomorrow!!

hugss all, sarah :)

TwoKidsTwoCats 01-01-2010 03:13 PM

Happy New Year... hard to believe it is 2010. :cool:

I was up to 2am. I bought new vitamins yesterday and took 1/2 the dose at 3pm yesterday. That stuff had me wide eyed until 2am! My neighbors set off loud fireworks in the street at 11:30 and a retired sailor neighbor rang his ship bell at midnight...the others halted their fireworks to listen to his 1 minute bell ringing. It was actually quite somber and nice. :)

I talked to my mom earlier, she has realized her outbursts and dementia moments may be her blood sugar out of whack. She has been afraid to go get it checked out. But she went off on my brother yesterday and she has realized something is wrong. I hope it is that and not Alzheimers or age related dementia. My brother called me and wanted to know if momma needed to be on hormones... uhhh..no Bubba, she's 72...way past the age for those! :D

supermoo 01-01-2010 04:39 PM

HAPPY NEW YEAER my lovely friends :D Thanks for your kind thoughts I hope 2010 brings you all the very best of everything because you deserve it. Love to you all Jackie xxxxxxxxx :hug::grouphug::grouphug::hug:

What kind of vitamins are they? Are they legal?;) Where do I get some???:D

TwoKidsTwoCats 01-01-2010 10:05 PM

:D Holly, yes they are legal! Expensive though. I'm trying the Vitamin Code for 50 & Wiser Women by Garden of Life. They are made from raw whole foods. Just two days and I was surprised how alert I have felt. I took them at breakfast time today and thankfully I don't think they will interfere with sleep tonight... I'm about ready to call it bedtime.

I got no benefit from most over the counter vitamins/supplements. I had read some recently about how the ones that are made from raw whole foods worked better so thought I'd try it. I know I don't eat right all the time. I can only juice so many veggies and fruits before I get tired of it. This brand does not have any herbs or stimulants like so many "energy" vitamins do. I like that it has digestive enzymes and probiotics in it so that I don't have to take separate supplements.

FinLady 01-02-2010 10:02 AM

Pam, that's interesting about the new vitamins. Hope they keep working. :hug::hug:

~~~~~~
Trying to wake up this morn. Sun is shining so far, and have a few chores screaming my name - LOL! It's 2010 - aren't we supposed to have robots or something to help with this? :D Guess I'll settle for the appliances that help us out. ;)
Hoping everyone has a good day. :grouphug::grouphug:
JustWeave 01-02-2010 11:07 AM
Mornin' all. My firstborn turns adult today.:eek: According to our state's law at least. Where did the last 18 years go?!? :rolleyes: She has her quirks, but still, I'm very, very proud of her. :D
I've got birthday prep to do and I'm still recovering from the holidays. Monday is the first day of normal. The guys will return to work and school while the girls return to normal work hours and days. I'm looking forward to normal.
Have a good one! :hug::grouphug::hug:
hollym 01-02-2010 11:03 PM
Weave, you just reminded me that 2010 will be a year of milestone birthdays at my house. Next month my oldest son becomes a teenager and I will turn 40. In March my youngest son turns 10! Where have all those years gone?
sabimax 01-03-2010 10:21 AM
Holly they go faster than fast!! my oldest will be 17 this spring... and the baby well she is going to be 3 this spring!! :eek:
Hey all, heading to church with the two youngest, they are really loving going and they stay pretty quiet we sit with my parents like in second row:eek:well new years day the kids asked to sit in front row.....
well gotta run so we are not late, hugsssss and love to all, sarah
SandyC 01-03-2010 11:23 AM
Morning all! Nothing planned for the day. Mom had a moody day yesterday. We are starting to see this the more she is here. She is very sensitive to everything and told us she would just stay in her room all day yesterday. We didn't do anything, just minding our business having coffee. Today she didn't come in to have coffee with us. My cousin told me to not ask or say anything to her. She said mom is the older adult and pitching a fit is not right. She is the same age as my mom and takes care of her mom who has alzheimers. She said mom needs to come to grips with her situation, not us. I love her. lol
Anyway, I really think this cold and snow is getting to her. We don't go out or do much of anything when it's like this. We are hoping by spring she'll snap out of it. If not her only option is to move back to Tennessee and live in assisted living which she says is a nursing home. Mom has never got along with anyone she has lived with. Say a prayer that she'll learn to come around and let go of the control factor. I told her we will not live everyday in stress or feeling awkward in our own home. Seriously, we can't. Jim has done very well not living a stressful life and it does affect him.
The doctor told us the seizures have caused brain damage that intensifies everything in her mind. She has been a control freak all her life so we are trying to be understanding. We're sure in time she'll come around. Right? I am looking at several places just in case. She thinks she can live with her friends and that wont happen. Her closest friend is dying of cancer and her other one is 75 and not in the best of health. She refuses to live with my sister or live near her so her only choice is to go into an assisted living arrangement if she doesn't come around.
Other than that, things are going well here at the house. Chris is applying for teaching jobs. The best he'll get right now is a sub job unless someone quits. NIU is taking their time to get transcripts out too. They said the economy is tough and they shut down the school until this week.
supermoo 01-03-2010 09:01 PM
Hi everyone. Well I hope you all get things going better soon life has a habit of throwing hills at us to climb and climb we will :D We have started the new year well as an old timer pulled out on us on an island and hit rear qurter of the car :eek: scared me as nerves not so good we are ok but car needs work old chap said he never saw us :p time for a eye test i think.. Thinking of you all love Jackie xxxxxx :grouphug::hug::grouphug::hug:
ewizabeth 01-03-2010 09:49 PM
Hi Everybody!
I'm starting the new job tomorrow. :eek: Wish me luck! I'm going to need it! :eek:
Vonn07 01-03-2010 09:50 PM
sorry about the fender/bender, Jackie!! hope you are okay ... thinking of you!!
Sandy - sorry to hear about your mom ... and that she's not familiar with not going out, just to go out - because it's quite a job for you and Jim to get ready to go out .. and in this weather - who'd want to? continued thoughts and prayers for all of you ...
UPDATE:
I have been cleaning out supplies and found a bunch of baby yarn ... so I started and finished a baby afghan ... still have tons of crochet thread, towels, yarn, painting supplies, frames, matting, backing .. paint, glass, books and books ... need I go on??
didn't even mention the 15-20 totes of fabric and boxes that I haven't even gone thru yet .. and boxes that I've already packed ...
do I make sense?? LOL
have a great week - another course is underway ...
FinLady 01-04-2010 10:05 AM
Sandy, sorry to hear about your mom having trouble adjusting. praying for you guys. :hug:
Jackie, sorry to hear about getting rear ended. :(
Wiz, good luck on the first day!
Vonn, you are one busy gal, which is good to see. :)
Everyone, :hug::hug:
~~~~~~~~~~

Trying to get my sleep schedule back to normal, but did an uber mistake of taking a good book with me to unwind last night. Got caught up and totally overshot my bedtime. :eek:

So sipping coffee and trying to wake up. Got things to get accomplished a step at a time.

Take care everyone!

Kitty 01-04-2010 10:14 AM

Good Morning! Sipping my coffee and waking up. Beautiful sunny day here but cold....brrrr! It's 15 degrees here this morning and the high is going to be 30! Snow is forecast for thursday/Friday!! http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...owingsmile.gif

ON still dominating my life right now but it'll get better. I'm going to call my Neuro's office today and see how to get a complete copy of my medical records. I'd like to have it for my own benefit and if I need to get another Neuro I'd like to have them. I'm going to see if my PCP will just let me come to him for any problems I have - as long as they aren't too severe.

Everyone stay warm and have a good Monday! :grouphug:

SandyC 01-04-2010 10:30 AM

Morning all! Mom has her first neuro appointment today. I hope he doesn't expect us to come in frequently because he's about an hour away. I am picking up all her records at our pcp before we go. They show all the testing she had a little over a month ago.

Wiz, good luck today! :hug:

Barb, :hug: hope you get some relief today.

Jackie, glad everyone is OK! :hug:

Jenn, I think I need five cups today. LOL

Vonn, thanks. We'll be fine and I am praying hard she adjusts to her new home. If not, we'll cross that bridge. She is a stubborn one for sure! After a long nap she was fine so we'll see.

Kitty, we're getting snow Thursday. Sorry the eyes are still bothering you. I hope your pcp will agree to take care of you until you have your insurance. :hug:

Have a good day everyone! Stay warm. It's a crisp 6 degrees here. Yippie! Vegas is looking better and better. haha

JustWeave 01-04-2010 10:58 AM

Mornin' all. I needed a break, so here I am.:p

Took care of the last remnants of the holidays and DD birthday celebration this morning. I had a huge heap of clothing on a chair. It is now either in a box for my cyber yard sale, or one of two bags to go to charity. I need to get a new card for the digital camera before I can start photographing my yard sale. This is going to be one huge sale.

Need to get back at it. I'm sure I have more plans than time, to get them done this week. :rolleyes:

Have a good one and stay warm. It is overcast, and very brrr here. Bring on Spring!!!:D

TwoKidsTwoCats 01-04-2010 11:33 AM

After a slow lazy few days, it was hard to get back in the routine of getting up at 6am! I went back for a nap after DH left for work :D

I'm doing colonoscopy prep today...oh joy. Coffee with no creamer is not my idea of good coffee. It's liquids all day and the hard junk comes this evening. :rolleyes: I'll let ya'll know if I survive...:D

I had wanted to get some errands done, but it is too cold for my blood out there. It was 12 in our backyard this morning. Clouds are building and we may get some sleet tonight, snow by Thursday.

Barb, I hope you are feeling better today! :hug:

Kitty, stay warm down there! :hug:

Wiz, good luck with the job! :hug:

:grouphug: to all!

soxmom 01-04-2010 11:40 AM

Hey all! Been up all night with my youngest...flu again!:mad:grrrrr....just

I wanted to wish you all Happy New Year!:grouphug:

Kelly...I hope you are feeling better soon!:hug:

wiz...good luck today!

Everyone else...:grouphug:

Kitty 01-04-2010 01:21 PM

Sox, I hope your little one gets better quick! You've had some bitterly cold weather up that way, too, haven't you? I'm sure a day at home with Mom will make him feel much better.

supermoo 01-04-2010 05:27 PM

ewizabeth 01-04-2010 07:00 PM

Everything went well today. I'll check in back at the hotel, we should have wireless there. I'm at Panera eating now. :) :grouphug:

SandyC 01-04-2010 08:18 PM

Just got home. I got my H1N1 shot and so did mom. She also got her flu shot. The neuro appointment went well. He will see her in a month and if she's stable she wont have to see him except every four months. He said she should be fine as long as her meds are monitored. he also said we can leave her alone at times and not to worry as long as she is taking her meds correctly. He said that several times. lol

JustWeave 01-04-2010 08:49 PM

Two posts from me in one day? What's up with that?

This afternoon I rolled up my sleeves and rifled through about two dozen good sized boxes looking for one item. Of course I never found it. Grrrr. I did however find some other AWOL items and a few more things to add to the mountian of cyber yard sale stuff. Woohoo times two!!

So... do I want to sift through a box of paper stuff or veg in front of the TV. :rolleyes:

ewizabeth 01-04-2010 09:41 PM

It sounds like things are going ok with your mom Sandy. Still keeping you in my prayers sweetie. :hug:

Ok, at the hotel, very tired because it was a long day. Tomorrow we have to be there at 7:45 am so I'm hitting the sack now. Hugs and love to all. Have a good Tuesday everybody.

What would we do without laptops and wireless. :rolleyes: I depend on you all so much. :grouphug:

Kitty 01-05-2010 12:33 AM

Glad you had a good first day, Wiz. I hope tomorrow goes just as well for you!

I bet it will seem like Daisy has grown a bunch once you get home. It's amazing how much they change when you haven't seen them for just three days. :)

FinLady 01-05-2010 10:29 AM

Morning all :) First round of school closings and delays of the season in our area. We had snow that tappered into freezing rain, so the roads this A.M. aren't so good.

Hoping I can unearth my car this evening for a meeting I'm going to. :)

Take care everyone! :grouphug::grouphug:

Kitty 01-05-2010 10:37 AM

We're supposed to have snow on Thursday. Not sure how much as they keep changing the forecast. But we could see up to.....GASP.....3 inches! :eek: What'll we doooooo??!! :D

It hasn't reached 32 degrees here in days so whatever falls will most definitely stick and freeze. I wish it would hold off till Saturday. At least there wouldn't be so many cars on the roads.

As long as my power doesn't go out I'm fine. I'm sure I'd be fine with no heat for a while but I don't want my cats to get cold! :o Yes, they are spoiled but that's what pets are for. :)

tkrik 01-05-2010 11:27 AM

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been on much. DBF and I went out of town for a few days. It was great to get away like that. We needed that time together. Now it is back to reality.:rolleyes: :p

I lurked yesterday between downloading dictation and then typing, but certainly can't remember everyone's posts.

Hope you all are doing well and we all have a wonderful New Year!:hug::grouphug:
