Hi all...lovely November day...not...

T, glad you finished your painting...really cool!
Sandy, so glad your ENT appt. went well...are you going to have to use a nightguard for TMJ?
Sarah, :hug:

I got a call from my sis's DIL yesterday...my sis was taken to the hospital...she has pneumonia...she has a very bad heart, emphysema, and still smokes like a chimney...she wants to die...I feel a bit detached from it all. Which makes me feel guilty. We've had our ups and downs over the years...but she is my sister...has had a lousy life, with many bad choices made by her. She is in a bad way financially, emotionally, and of course physically. Please pray for her...as I will...

barb02 11-19-2009 12:50 PM

Another rainy day here in Illinois. I am done with classes for today, and have been working on making up final exams. The end is now in sight!:D I am now waiting for a friend to get out of her class, and we are going to go have Thai for lunch. President said he will not be making any decisions regarding furloughs until in January or so. He is jsut gathering input right now.:rolleyes:

SandyC 11-19-2009 06:11 PM

Hi all! I had my van fixed today and it's up and running like new. I have my doctors appointment tomorrow and will let you know about it when I get home. Debbie, no I don't have to wear a guard but if I start grinding my teeth I may have to.

My sister went to see my mom and she said mom was talking a little off today. I didn't get much out of my sister because she's going through her own private hell. Her husband left her last night so things are a little emotional right now. I'll talk to her later when she's at home. I keep trying to call mom but I am not getting an answer yet.

Debbie, I am sorry about your sis. :hug:

tkrik 11-19-2009 07:08 PM

Debbie - Praying for your sister as well as you.:hug:

Sandy - What's the jerk who did that to your sister's phone number? LOL So sorry to hear about all that is going on with your sister. Praying for her, your mom, and you.:hug:

Supermoo - Isn't it amazing how tiring shopping is! I get exhausted just going to the grocery store. What a sweet DH you have to do that for you.:hug:

barb02 11-20-2009 09:18 AM

TGIF!!! It has quit raining!

TwoKidsTwoCats 11-20-2009 12:55 PM

Debbie, I'll pray for your sister. :hug:

Sandy, just what you need, your sis being thrown into turmoil right now! :hug:

Kelly, I hope the garage sale goes well.

We have sunshine today! It has been a gloomy few days here in north AL, but today is nice and warm. I need to get moving, but my old bod says nothing doing! :D

I wondered why my allergies were acting up and it seems a few farmers sprayed defoliant on the cotton recently. SO i'm living on Claritin until this passes.

We are trying to figure out our Thanksgiving plans. Looks like we won't travel to visit family. The youngest son has to go to school all day Wednesday which means we won't have that as a travel day. Family isn't too happy we aren't coming, but you do what you have to do. I'm not traveling 9 hours by car for just one meal!

Kitty 11-20-2009 01:05 PM

Hey Ya'll! It's a beautiful day here today. It's the calm before the storm.....we're supposed to have two full days of rain beginning on Saturday. :rolleyes:

Come to my house for Thanksgiving Dinner, Pam! I'm closer to you than 9 hours!! :D

I saw on TV that lots of stores are having pre-Black Friday sales this weekend. Pretty soon we'll just have Black Friday all year round! Each year the festivities begin a little earlier. One person on our street already has all their outside decorations up! The yards here aren't that big and their whole front yard is full of blow up characters and lighted reindeer! :o It's a little over the top, IMO.

There is a radio station here that has a "Tacky Lights Tour" each year! I get the feeling this house might be on the list! :o

Everyone have a great Friday and a happy, safe weekend! :grouphug:

Vonn07 11-20-2009 04:42 PM

hello from wisconsin ... :D

did not feel well yesterday - couldn't move .. couldn't even look at food on TV!! then I barfed this morning ... and felt better ... woo hoo!!

finished another quilt top ... and marinated some chix breasts to grill on the George Foreman (my friend) ... and did 2 loads of laundry!!

to celebrate - going to the quilt shop (hancock) in Mad-town tomorrow - seeing that it's going to be another nice day ... have the windows open today!!

SandyC 11-20-2009 08:58 PM

Just got home from picking up the dresser. The guy was nice and so was his son and some girl. No dangers. Although I did think after that it was the perfect setting for a Texas Chainsaw type event. lol

The doctors appointment went well. He doesn't believe the bumps on my nose are cancerous. He said the only way to get rid of them is to remove them cosmetically (they are T-zone cysts). However, he said that could leave a scar or indent, no guarantee. So, I decided to leave them alone. If they grow or become bothersome I will have them removed.

He also talked with me about mom and will take her on as a patient. He also has a neuro in mind for mom that he says is very good. I have papers for her to sign so he can get her records.

That's it. Another exciting day. lol

FinLady 11-21-2009 10:02 AM

Sandy, sorry to hear about your sis. :( Hope things quiet down for your family hear soon! Prayers going out. :hug::hug:

Vonn, hope you feel better soon. :hug::hug:

tkrik 11-21-2009 10:26 AM

Good morning everyone!

Checking in quickly as I have a little bit of energy this morning and want to do some projects/chores. I have been getting these spurts every morning now which means I am on the mend. :p Of course, I keep overdoing it, as usual.:rolleyes: Then I am down for the rest of the day. LOL

I hope you all have a great day!

barb02 11-21-2009 11:06 AM

Good Morning! Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I plan on doing a little Xmas decorating today and reading a good book. I know it is not even Thanksgiving yet, but I like to do my decorating this week when I have some time off. That way I can enjoy it before going home to Ohio for Christmas.

SandyC 11-21-2009 11:06 AM

Morning all! My plans for today are to get the rest of my lights up. It's in the 50's so perfect weather. Don't worry Kitty, we have them up but wont light them until Thanksgiving. hahahaha Around here you grab the good days for putting up the decs.

My sister is doing fairly well. She's leaning on God and handing it to him. Jimmy took the girls for the whole weekend and she's pretty lonely.

Mom is doing good. I think now that we have a doctor lined up things will go well when she gets here.

Have a good weekend everyone!

supermoo 11-21-2009 12:27 PM

NaeNae 11-21-2009 07:23 PM

Surprise!!!! Hey peeps, I thought it had been too damn long since I visited all my buddies here, although I talk to most of yall on Facebook! So most of you know Olivia had her surgery yesterday, poor thing has been puking all day just got back from picking her up some nausea meds.

I will now be starting Avonex plus once a month IV solumedrol for 3 days. we'll see how that works! Also starting Lyrica. My neuro said it was a true testament to my character that I am working full time in a crazy job, he said he sees 100's of people a day with only 1/3 of the disability I have and they are all on disability...I said well too bad u weren't with me when I filed the first time! I also told him supporting my kids was great incentive to keep on working!

I love my doctor I work with but all of the workplace drama bacstabbing and gossiping is taking its toll on me, so much so that I have applied for my old job back at the hospital...way less stress and more money so we shall see!

TwoKidsTwoCats 11-21-2009 11:03 PM

Supermoo, so sorry to hear about your dog. :hug:

NaeNae, good to see your post. Sorry to hear the work conditions are not going well. I hope your daughter has a speedy recovery!

We had a slow and lazy day at home. Just caught up on a few recorded tv shows. I'm trying to figure out where to place our Christmas tree this year. It always ends up in the living room corner near the foyer.

:grouphug:

FinLady 11-22-2009 10:23 AM

Morning all! :)

Trying to get psyched to brave the grochery store. This is the second most dreaded holiday time to go shopping. Hubby and I have been going through the list of trying to figure out how to feed 10 people. :eek:

When you are used to only 2, it can boggle one's mind. :D

Take care all. :)

tkrik 11-22-2009 11:02 AM

Morning everyone! Up and ready to paint today. At least that's the plan.

Renee - Good to see you post. :p

Fin - LOL My mom cooked for 12 on a daily basis for years.:D General rule of thumb - 1 potato per person for mashed potatoes, 1/4 tot 1/2 cup per person per veggie and/or stuffing (depending on how many veggies you are serving), and the turkey I have no clue portion size. LOL I think it is 3 - 6 oz per person but can't remember. Hope that helps. Good luck!:hug:

Supermoo - You are smart to get it all done before hand. Good job!

Hi everyone else! Thinking of you all as well.:hug::grouphug:

Kitty 11-22-2009 11:17 AM

Morning everyone! It's a cloudy, cold, rainy day here. We're only forecast to be in the high 40's today. I love it!! :D I know.....I'm weird.

DS22 and I stopped at a furniture store yesterday and looked at sofa's. Needless to say, our taste is completely different! I told him if he wanted to buy what he likes I'll be happy to put it in the living room. :cool:

I would really love to sell what I already have in my garage sale. I've had it for almost ten years now and it shows it. But.....money always has a way of complicating my plans. I need one more bill each month like I need a hole in my head. Wait! I already have holes in my head.....well, my brain! :o I did see something I really like and it would be almost $800. They have a no interest for a year deal but my payments would still be around $71 a month. I'll see what I make off the garage sale. I really don't want to take this old stuff I already have to a new place.

DS26 is getting better. His hand still gives him problems and I'm worried that it will cause him ongoing issues. It would definitely be a WC claim but he just wants to get back out there in the "fast lane". He doesn't like desk work. At least it was his left hand and he's right handed. I told him that but it didn't cheer him up much. :rolleyes:

Three more days till Thanksgiving! I'm planning on having ham, green bean casserole (DS's favorite), macaroni and cheese, corn, rolls and fruit salad. What's everyone else doing?

OK, DS22 has the TV on at break-the-sound-barrier levels so I'm off the find the remote. :rolleyes: Ya'll have a great Sunday! :grouphug:

SandyC 11-22-2009 11:38 AM

Morning all! I am finishing up the lights today. Maybe get a blanket done if I have time.

Kitty, I am going to my uncles's house for Thanksgiving. I am making lime jello, corn beef dip, green been and sweet potato casserole to take with us. I bought a sweet potato and pumpkin pie but the men folk here said I cannot take it. lol

Trish, is your mom doing Thanksgiving this year? How's your dad doing?

Sarah, is your mom cooking this year?

Supermoo, sorry about your dog. :hug:

Jenn, hope you get through the crowds quickly. I did my shopping Friday.

Pam, my tree is going to the same place as usual. I have a diagonal living room so we don't have a choice. lol

Barb, have fun decorating! My son is so ready to start the inside decs. I told him go for it!

Renee, good to see ya back! Give that sweet child a big hug from us!

Everyone have a good Sunday. :grouphug:

supermoo 11-22-2009 04:23 PM

My dad is doing well. He still hurts quite a bit but overall he is doing amazing! I don't remember if I mentioned this or not but the cancer was more extensive than the thought (outside of the bladder and in to the abdominal tissue). He will be doing chemo but I don't know when he will start.

As for Thanksgiving, well . . .my mom fell a week or 2 before my dad's surgery. Long story short, she will be having 8 teeth pulled on Tuesday (the good news is . . .she didn't break her mandible like they thought, just a few broken teeth and shifted teeth. She is an amazing woman as she put up with all the pain in her mouth and face until after my dad's surgery). So, between us kids and grandkids we all will be making Thanksgiving dinner at my mom and dad's.

Kitty 11-22-2009 05:26 PM

Gosh, Tricia, I hope your Mom is okay! It sounds like she took quite a spill. She's fortunate to have her family there to take over the cooking for her.

I'm glad your Dad is doing well. Will you have a big group there for Thanksgiving? I can't believe it's this Thursday!

I've fought the urge to use the fireplace today. It's gas logs so it's not a "real" fire but I decided against it. It just makes the gas bill higher. :rolleyes:

DS26 just called to ask me how to fry calamari. I've never cooked it but told him it was probably like shrimp and told him how I'd fry that. I hope he's careful. He has an injured left hand. Apparently he's the cook in the relationship. :cool: His GF is sweet and I love her but she's what you'd call "high maintenance". ;)

barb02 11-22-2009 06:56 PM

If the woman in the relationship does the cooking, does that make the guy high maintenance?:p;)

Vonn07 11-22-2009 11:49 PM

thought I'd better post before you start sending out a search party for me!!:p

trying to start/finish ump-teen projects ... today, I tackled about 4 different projects (quilting, cutting, sewing, dishes, crocheting, making popcorn, pillowcases) ... watched the history channel - gave me a new idea on doing some art - in a specialized area .. ;)

wednesday - going in for the liver biopsy ... from check-in to kicking me out will take 4 hours ... and they will put me under, and also do a stomache scope ...

thursday - PIZZA ... it's my tradition ever since my mom went out to New York City one year with 2 of her friends on AmTrak to see the Macy's Day Parade ...as I watched on TV ... eating pizza!!:pizza:

I love the quietness ... sure, I have friends - but ... they have their families ... it's not a bad thing that I get to stay home alone and enjoy the day ... or go and visit a quiet, lonely lighthouse ... :D

Happy Turkey Week ...

FinLady 11-23-2009 08:43 AM

Morning all :)

I managed to get that perfect time before all the lines got full at the grochery store. :) The crowds added only 30 minutes to my normal length of shopping time, so wasn't too bad.

So I'm off to putter and do some more cleaning as soon as the coffee kicks in. :)

Hoping Everyone has a good day. :grouphug::grouphug:

~~~~~
Barb, LOL! Makes me thankful I have a hubby that wants to cook every once in awhile. Of course, we have two very different styles. We've made it a rule that whoever is the chef, it is their kitchen for the moment and the other stays out of the way. Believe me, it cuts down on arguments. :D
Vonn, New york style or Chicago deep dish? My hubby is a deep dish fan, where as I grew up where a real pizza was one you had to fold in order to keep the toppings from slipping off. :D
Moo, best of luck with the shot.
Kitty, LOL! reminds me of when I first got married. I mainly learned how to make desserts as a kid, but never learned how to cook. We have a deep appreciation for hamburger helper getting us through those rough first years. :D
Trish, Hope your mom is going to be okay as well. :hug::hug:
Debbie D 11-23-2009 08:54 AM
Goooood morning, everyone!! Thanksgiving week...yahoo!! My favorite holiday, because it is the only one in our country that celebrates being thankful to God, Creator, whatever...if we would concentrate more on what we are grateful for, I think this would be a better world...:)
Off to the surgeon this morning...as you might have seen on another thread, am having probs. with catheter. I decided to monitor the situation yesterday and last night rather than call...probably a bad decision, but I didn't want to spend the evening in the ER and miss that wonderful Bears game:rolleyes:.
DH and I got all the kids gifts wrapped last night. We celebrate Thanksgiving Thursday, then Friday decorate for Christmas and open gifts Friday evening. So I'm going to attempt to get Christmas cookies made today, fudge tomorrow (yum), and then desserts for Thursday made on Wednesday.
I am surprised at how exhausted I get by any amount of exertion. The surgeon's assistant told me beforehand that I wouldn't feel normal for 6 wks. and I laughed at him. My bad...plus, my legs are giving me problems. Drop foot is more pronounced, and my thighs and shins get real sore after only a short time of standing. I'm wondering if the surgery threw me into a bit of an exaserbation:confused:.
Anyway, I bet that some of you will be very busy this week. I hope for all who are traveling that you make your destination safely, and for those keeping put, I hope you enjoy the season...despite all of the problems in our world, and with our health, we do have much to be thankful for. Especially for this site, where we can get info and support and those so-important hugs...
:D
soxmom 11-23-2009 09:10 AM
Happy MOnday friends!
Tricia...ouch, your poor mama. praying for both of your folks tricia.:hug:
fin...I hate shopping before thanksgiving too...too much noise!
vonn....piZZa sounds yummy! enjoy your day!
sandy...Im so happy to have my boy home this week, bet you are too!:hug:
I wish mine would do the decorating!
Kel, Barb, Pam, Sarah, Holly, Weav, Wiz, Moo have a wonderful holiday week!
My update: So busy, whew! Still dragging from the flu....the fatigue really
stinks!
Plans have changed today as my Mom was out cleaning the outside of
her windows on a stool and fell onto her back on the cement:(. She
had xrays and a preliminary reading and it looks like no break. But the
radiologist is going to look at it today.
A few years ago she broke her sacrum(sp?). She has struggled since(She
is only 66 years old). She has soft bones so I am worried. Anyway, Im
going over there shortly to make some dinner as my Dad is at work. I will
just double it and bring half home.:)
Tomorrow I grocery shop.:eek: We are going to my Uncles in New York for thanksgiving.
There will be 37 of us, the first ;time in forever we all are going to be
together! Im really looking foreward to that.
On Wednesday we are making cranberry sauce with our first graders. We
are using the old grinders and are cooking it in the class! My son has
the best first grade teacher ever!
I wish all of you a relaxing Thanksgiving...spent however you like to
spend it. Be good to yourselves and each other!!!!!!:hug::grouphug::grouphug:
SandyC 11-23-2009 10:14 AM
Morning all! Jim and I are heading out to the VA today. He has a dental appointment and an evaluation for his exercise machine. Then we are heading back home. It's going to get really cold here this week so I am glad I have all my lights up. Well, I have two bushes left but the are net lights so it wont be hard.
Sox, it is awesome having my son here! He helped with the lights and even put the tree up in the house. WHOOHOO! I got to sit back while he did all the work. He left Nik some ornaments and his personal ones to put on the tree Wednesday. Nik was excited about that. I have to say I gave them the xmas bug, they both still get excited about xmas. My mom is a bah humbug at xmas because of everyone that has passed. I told her she cannot be one this year, not allowed. She actually got excited when I told her we have to get her an ornament for the tree.
Jenn, glad the crowds weren't too bad!
Well, everyone have a good day. :hug:
tkrik 11-23-2009 10:58 AM
Good morning everyone!
Sox - OUCH!!! Your poor mom! I hope that nothing is broken. Let us know how it goes. Praying for your mom.:hug:
Sandy - Hope Jim can get that exercise machine. That would be awesome. DD19 has the Christmas bug all year long. LOL She loves Christmas. She'd fit right in with your boys. LOL
Vonn - Now that's my kind of Thanksgiving. LOL Well, I do like to make a nice turkey dinner but I don't want all the commotion. I like them nice a quiet.:p Keeping you in my prayers and hope all goes well on Wednesday.:hug:
Fin - I went to the store yesterday to pick up a few things and the lines were so long.:eek: I didn't expect that on a Sunday evening. 30 minutes extra in a store is 30 minutes too long for me. :D I hate shopping - any kind of shopping.
Barb - LOL. I guess I have a high maintenance man.:D That question belongs in my Silly Questions/Silly Answers thread. LOL
Debbie - Give yourself some time. Surgery of any kind can take its toll on the body. Become the Queen of Delegation over the next few weeks and in particular this week. Hope you feel better soon.:hug:
Hi Everyone else! Thinking of you as well.
Not too much planned for the day - at least not right now. My sister is coming today and will probably go see her this afternoon to visit as well as help with whatever needs to be done at my parents house. My mom hired a maid so there is no cleaning that needs to be done. This maid is awesome. She's my brother and SIL's maid and I so wish I could afford her to come in and do a detailed cleaning once a month for me. Anyhow, I don't know what needs to be done there, if anything.
DD19 borrowed my car as she didn't have a ride to work one evening. I have a couple of things to return to Target and I'd love to go as early as possible in the morning and I have to pick up potatoes as DDs and I are supposed to bring mashed potatoes on Thursday as well as some homemade salsa. I should have done all of this yesterday morning - early! Early Sunday mornings at the grocery store are awesome!!! No one is there so no obstacles, distractions, long lines, etc. Easy, peaceful shopping.:p
Have a good day everyone.:hug::grouphug:
supermoo 11-23-2009 11:28 AM
TwoKidsTwoCats 11-23-2009 06:15 PM
Round two: 14 yr old son is sick again. The school called and he had a 103 temp. We went to Urgent care because his regular doc was booked by 9am this morning. They tested everything and said it was viral. Not seasonal flu, but possibly H1N1. Since he wasn't tested last time until the 7th day, there is no way to know what he had before. He had high temp and other symptoms that the doc thought ruled out just a ordinary cold. SO Tamiflu was prescribed. Not looking forward to its possible side effects, but the kid can't go through what he did last time. THey did a CBC and his blood counts are good. This kid has rarely been sick. He had strep at 5 and 7 years of age... no ear infections, no normal childhood illnesses ..nada. Now this in less than a month.:confused:
It's a good thing we decided not to travel to visit family.
barb02 11-23-2009 06:54 PM
Pam, Hope your ds feels better soon.
Tricia and Soxmom -- Your poor moms! Hope they both are ok.
Well my house is all decorated. Once I started I could not stop until I was done. It took about two days. Why does one person need two trees?:rolleyes:
I am going to a friend's for Thanksgiving. I think there will be about 14 people there -- all family and me. I am taking rolls! I think I can handle that:D.
I did some shopping this morning (drove one hour each way) and had a doctor's appointment this afternoon. I was impressed. I called at 2:30 and they fit me in at 4:00. My pcp actually spent a half hour with me.
My "good" leg has been bothering me a lot the past week or so. She thinks that my phlebitis is acting up. I was dx with mild phlebitis three years ago prior to ms dx. It has not bothered me since then. So she ordered compression knee highs that I am supposed to wear when driving a lot or walking more than normal. I think my shopping trip last weekend and my increased activity has aggravated it. If that does not help, I will need another Doppler ultrasound. She also referred me to a pulmonary specialist for possible sleep apnea (appointment in February), and talked me into trying actonel for my osteopenia. I have been putting off doing anything about it since last May. Oh -- and she ordered blood work for liver/cholesterol. So it was an eventful appointment.
I was given orders to relax the rest of this week off!;)
SandyC 11-23-2009 08:49 PM
Hey we're home! Jim's dental appointment and pt appointment went well. I inquired about the H1n1 shot and was told they did not have any for patients. I told them it's listed on the web that they have it so the nurse called the Infectious Disease clinic and we went about our way to the dental appointment. According to the VA website MS is not on the priority list anyway even though all the neuros and spinal cord docs say they are. (Except Jim's doctor who thinks the shot is too new to gauge)
So, we leave and go to Jim's appointment. A little later the ID (infectious disease) nurse comes in and goes to the back for a bit. I am thinking she is giving shots to workers because we were told only workers could get it. She come out and sits next to me and says she just gave Jim his H1n1 shot. Now that's service with an A+! How many times can one say the nurse comes to you wherever you are? LOL
