I swore off watching that race when Barbarro broke his leg, but I couldn't resist watching today. I didn't want to pick a favorite, just in case. I toggled between 8 Bells and Return to Glory. My husband pushed me, so I chose Return to Glory. We laughed when Return to Glory threw his jockey prior to entering the gate - figures. Phew - okay, the jockey may have a bruised ego, but no one was hurt.

It took my breath away when they announced 8 Bells had to be put down due to two broken ankles. It was hard to watch the celebration of Big Brown's win afterward.

That's it. I'm never going to watch racing again. They are breeding those horses TOO large and keeping their legs, especially ankles, too small and fragile.

I can understand frog races with children cheering them on because I never heard of a frog dying because of one of these.

I can understand people racing because, even if they die in the process - they knew what they were in for.

But the poor horsees - it's not like you can ask them, "hey horse, how's it going today? Do you like panting and running to death???"

I feel sorry for them and the greyhound dogs.
