Default I might need bail money and good lawyer...

My statement from My long term disability company came a few days ago...by the time I pay them and my attorney...I will have very few dollars left.

I was hoping that I would have enough to at least pay off med bills, pay ahead on the house, truck or even pay one truck off completely...it ain't gonna happen.

I could just tell them...I'm keeping the money, it ain't like you ever pay premium back when people don't use the insurance. Yeah, the check does not go to them...SS will not send it to them...they asked. I called my LTD and no one was in that I could speak with...I left my phone number....

I got a letter yesterday saying they didn't have a phone number...they also have my benefit amount wrong...and they didn't send the correct amount when I was on LTD...

Such a dilemma, but I guess I will still ower the huge medical bills, house payments won't get ahead, neither will the vehicles and I still won't be taking some of the meds I need...but, I'm still here, I might be balistic...but I'm still here! lol

Maybe I can make a deal with them...I'll send you what is left over after I pay my medical bills...how does 1.25 sound!! lol

I'm thankful I had the LTD while I was out of work...we would have really been in a bind. I was hoping to have enough left over to kind of get a head of the game a lil bit, but guess it was not to be...

They will let you make payments if you need to use some of the money and can't pay it all back...they just keep your benefits you would still receive until the money is paid back. Either way, they will get their money...

You mean once I'm approved for SSDI I have to pay back all the LTD benefits I'll receive??

Well, I guess that makes sense...since I will receive retroactive SSDI benefits. Otherwise I would be collecting twice.

But I don't wanna give it back!!! I deserve a windfall after all I've been through! And you do too, Momma. What happens if we just don't pay it back? Will they garnish my wages? I don't HAVE any wages!!! Can they sue us? Can't get blood from a turnip. Sue away....I have nothing!!

Really though, I know it's only right to pay it back. I just sort of liked the idea of actually having a little bit of money again - at least for a little while.

I will never understand this whole LTD thing. It is a separate insurance company and I don't get it. They say if you get SSDI you have to pay back the difference or whatever since SSDI paid you retro. It all seems so silly and wrong. You pay the premiums so you are not left in a bind. LTD only pays 60% if your lucky and you fight all that time to make ends meet. Yet, let something good like SSDI come through and they want it back. HELLO PEOPLE!!!!!!!! That 60% barely made the bills if you were lucky to have someone else helping pay them!!!!!!

Sorry, it just ****** me off. My mom is about to go LTD and she just got approved for early SS but denied SSDI. I told her to not take a dime of the LTD even if they offer it. Besides, if she did, which she can't, she wouldn't get the lovely income assisted apartment she wants because then she would make too much money. It's all so dumb. As it is now she will have about $500 left over after COBRA and rent to get groceries, meds and copays fr the doctors. Hmmmm.

Momma and anyone else going through this, I am sorry this is happening to you. They should not be allowed to do this to anyone, ever if you paid into it.

I just got my first LTD benefit check today. It couldn't have come at a better time - and it seems like alot at first but I have to remember it's only once a month....

It is 60% of my pay and I'm not complaining! But for those of us who have no other income to fall back on it's inadequate to keep up with all the bills. I'll be paying the rent, car, utilities and groceries before any of the credit cards get their share of it....IF they even do!! I won't have but a few dollars left after all the necessities are paid for.

And they wonder why the bankruptcy rate is so high.

I'm not looking for a hand out. I worked hard all my life - since I was 16 years old I've had a job. My last job I was there for 15 years. I'd much rather be working than collecting LTD and SSDI.

I had to explain to a woman (LTD company) who doesn't have a disabling illness why I cannot work. And I had to answer questions that made me feel like I was trying to "get away" with something. I know some people will abuse the system and that makes it hard for those of us who genuinely need the assistance. It just makes me mad that we have to fight so hard for what should be rightfully ours. I mean, what's the point in paying the LTD premiums and contributing to SS if we have to move heaven and earth just to reap the benefits when we need them most?
