Heck! I nearly cried as well when I realised that the little guy was the one who survived the earthquake, from the rubble at the school!

Thumbs up

The opening ceremonies were awesome. The excitement and pride of the athletes was contagious. My husband was wondering why Yao Ming wasn't smiling, but it looked pretty obvious to me he was about to break out in tears. What a moment for him.

I hadn't been following who would be attending the Olympics, so I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw Dwayne Wade (basketball)! He's our hometown pride, and attended the same high school I attended. My son went to school with him, and they played on the football team together. With everything he has going on in his life, he managed to make it back home before school let out to play basketball with the kids from the school.

I laughed at the trivia over Estonia. Back in 1912, Estonia and Finland made a world record - they wrestled for 11 HOURS.

Some of those countries are so small, it must have been overwhelming for those athletes to see so many people in one place.

The finale was absolutely spectacular. Let the games begin.
