Just thought I would stop by for a quick hi. So... Hi! It is going to take awhile for me to adjust to being back to school. So I may be lurking more rather than posting everyday.

NaeNae 08-26-2008 06:11 PM

Hey all back from job interview it went well I think, they seem pretty desperate for help! But also looked kind of pained when I told them what I expected salary wise so we shall see, they said they would be making a decision very quick.

I guess I meant to say to TK..that vacation was fun although some of the troubles...rain and my health....but anyhow.think I typed Yeahbut...

hugss to all anyhow..cogfog of mine and all...

I am so sad about what happened, I was in WalMart shopping with two of the kids..when police were there and they started announcing they are looking for a young `18 year old...and described clothing and hair...I was thinking huh...a 17 or 18 year old lost in a store..police...so wondered if in trouble..

found a walmart worker I know...there was everyone looking everywhere....asked this person...well sad...the mother lost track of daughter who is scitzophrenic...(SP?) and biPolar.....

but it had been a while they had been looking...like two hours after we were helping...I think there is good chance she isnt in the store...they were starting to look over all security tapes to see if she left building....uggggg

I thought, as the worker did....in the health she is in, and mother said she will be scared ....that the police would bring in there scent dog by then...and see if mom has a bit of clothing of hers in the car...I know lost only short time..but due to condition of the teen.....

felt so bad for the mom...they are from out of town I think....so please keep this family that I dont know in your prayers...thanks...I did finally see the mom...or relative and reached out and touched her arm as she was walking by with a walmart employee and said, good luck she is in our family prayers...

hugsss all, gotta go...taking a walk with some of the kids...gotta get moving more than just at work...with this latest weight gain..I have never gained weight before other than with pregnancy...(oh not not preggo haha) ...I still have extra weight I dont need as it is...but to gain like this....8-10 pounds in three weeks...I think the meds....I will ask tomorrow when they finally return my call about the itchys...hugss,sarah

sabimax 08-26-2008 07:07 PM

yeahbut say hi to everyone I know in MASS hehehehe wish I was there to meet up with you...we used to travel to Maine and golf there....hugss,sarah

tkrik 08-26-2008 07:44 PM

Sarah - That is so sad. I will say a prayer for that family and the girl.

Frank - Does ds do deliveries this far south? I could go for a Sonic right now. (but we're having pork chops instead:() However, you better have him run some over to Sandy. You heard what she did to Jim at the drs. the other day. You may be next.:D

YB - I don't know a lot about algebra. Unless you want to fail the class, then I'll help you all you want. lol You are a very smart and talented woman and will do just fine.:hug:

Renee - Saying prayers, saying prayers, saying prayers (St. Joseph's prayer) for you. I hope that which ever job is the best fit for you is the one that you get.

Sandy - Quit pouting. I didn't get any either. lol

Well I'll be darned, it's hailing out right now. AWESOME! That will cool this hot hell hole down. lol

Hope everyone is having a good evening.

SandyC 08-26-2008 08:02 PM

Trish, did you get the dust storm?

snoozie 08-26-2008 10:16 PM

Just got back from parents orientation for son's new school and I just have to say how pleasant it was to see teachers who were passionate about their jobs.

This is a charter school run by the school district here, so it is still a public school and does not cost a penny. All work is done online and they meet with their teacher 1 day a week for 4 hours.

Their is also tutoring everyday on campus. He can also webcam with his teacher for extra help. Also for that matter he can call, email, text his teachers.

The reason we are doing this is because my son had difficulty learning in a classroom with 35 to 50 kids in it. At this school the class size averages 20. Another reason was the violence in the schools here. I lost a nephew to murder last July (not at school, he was in his early 20's) then when school started last year we had several shootings at some of the high schools so I pulled him out and home schooled him.

I am so excited about this...can ya tell...Sue

weegot5kiz 08-26-2008 10:47 PM

trish dust storm? I have not seen anything but have not turned on weathe channel yet or news so will look online, hope you all are ok and hopefully i am not missing some coded message such as memphitis

interesting thing happen to me on the way to the forum, went out front by the pond had a smoke and saw a critter perhaps a dog run across the blvd we live on, then it starts running this way down the middle of blvd, dang coyote, it was moving too, so something or some one must of spooked it

CayoKay 08-27-2008 04:35 AM

still recovering from my little weekend vacation here...

fell asleep at 8:30 pm last night, and here it is, 3 am, and I'm WIDE awake !!

criminy, I just HATE that, don't you?

Frank, you'd love it here...

when I sit *very* quietly on the bench at my pond, the agoutis come out to play...

they're sort of like giant squirrels, about the size of a small dog, a sleek lovely brown, and very playful and hoppity.

I used to see just one (last year) but was happy to note that a mate appeared last spring, and a few months later, I saw smaller ones appear.

if I hold very very still, and there's lots of ducks around to mask any human scents and noises, they'll actually hop within a few feet of me.

they don't seem interested in the ducks' food, they just like the pond.

I see them a lot more when the brush is whacked back, but we only do that every few months, as all our critters like to browse the greenery...

it's a fine balancing act, to keep enough growing for feed, yet not provide too much, as it's hiding cover for snakes, tarantulas, and wildcats.

oh, and yesterday, I saw a TOUCAN !! wowzers !!

:cool:

hey Snoozie, glad you got some teaching assistance from the Charter School, that's great!

NaeNae, good luck on the job search, I'm in your corner, rooting away!

Yabbit, I did pretty well in Algebra, but that was 37 years ago, and I seriously doubt there's any retention after 20 yrs of MS, lol !!

:D

good luck with the class anyway, but I've got to ask, are you some kind of masochist?

;):winky:;)

Barb, Are you adjusting to the new schedule yet?

:hug:

Kitty 08-27-2008 06:22 AM

Good Morning! It's finally not raining here.....there's flash flooding all over the place but not where I am. We needed the rain so I am not complaining!

Matt comes home from Jekyll Island today - I haven't heard from him since Sunday so I am assuming he's had a good time.

Looks like LA is going to get hit with another hurricane....I pray that it just turns and stays out at sea. They don't need another disaster.

Renee - good luck with the job...I hope you get it!

TK - glad you got some relief from the heat. We've had several days of 70's temps. Now it looks like it's heading back up to the low 90's...:(.

Char, good luck with school (and algebra). I was never good at math.....and algebra might as well be in a foreign language...:rolleyes:

Barb, the first week is always the hardest. Just the adjustment of "having" to be somewhere. :hug:

Anyone I left out - I'm sorry.....you know I'm thinking of you! :hug:

Ya'll have a wonderful day! :)

yeahbut 08-27-2008 06:34 AM

Good Morning - I should be 5 miles down the road but I am still on here! :eek: Going to put me behind for the day but that is ok!!!

I have never had algebra so I think I can fail it all by myself! I am really worried but I have a DD that loves it so she will be helping Momma!

Have a grea day everyone - I am off to Southern Maine and in between trying to sell slate! Keep your fingers crossed! I REALLY need to sell some......

NaeNae 08-27-2008 07:31 AM

Yabbit-fingers crossed for you Char you go girl!!!

Sue- isn't it wonderful to not have to worry when you send your kids to school? This year my sons school averages about 11 kids per class, and he has an alphasmart, think cross between a laptop and wordprocessor that he can carry and type all of his work/notes into and bring home for homework, we have had none of the back to school drama we have had in the past!

Sandy- sorry I didn't call u back after the interview I was to tired to talk and drive!

I have had horrible spasms in my legs the past few days plus really fatigued, I was so tired last night and Olivia kept waking me up to pull up her blanket for her Grrrrrr who went and spoiled that child? I want to know! LOL

Hi to everyone, Tricia,Frank,Barb,Jenn, Kayo, Vonn, Moi,Sarah, and anyone else I forgot, so sorry! Have a good day....I am going to be lazy!

FinLady 08-27-2008 08:12 AM

Yeahbut, If you need any help with algebra, let me know. I'm a little rusty, but remember how to do it for the most part. Got the math brain from my dad, he's a retired college professor. :)

Renee, you deserve a break from all the interviews you've done. Hope you have a nice day today. :)

Kay, those critters sound cute. Glad you get a chance to see them hop around. :)

~~~~~
:rain::rain: It's supposed to rain all day today and possibly into tomorrow. Plus side, we need it and the temps have dropped. High today is in the 70s. :)
Just sitting here making a to-do list and sipping my usual morning Java. Definitely an inside day if it's raining ;)
Hope everyone has a good day. :grouphug:
weegot5kiz 08-27-2008 08:34 AM
howdy
JustWeave 08-27-2008 08:51 AM
I'm here. The package didn't arrive in yesterday's mail and could not be tracked down. :mad: DH has been off his meds since Sunday. :eek: (blood pressure, stomach acid, and more) Yesterday was a bit scary. The withdrawal carp was in high gear. He tried hard to get a one or two day supply of his meds (he ordered online) but it just wasn't possible. He tried on his own. A local pharmacist even spent 47 minutes on the phone trying to get some meds for him. (Bless her!) How he managed to work, stay upright, and for the most part be in a civil mood I will never know. He was feeling so bad yesterday we both figured he would call in sick today. Surprise, surprise other than a slight headache this morning he said he hasn't felt this good in months. Makes us wonder why he is on some of that stuff in the first place. :confused: He takes six different meds. Both of us think he is on some of them just to counter act side effects from others. Anyway he went to work this morning. Hope it goes well for him.
I feel a nap coming on. The stress from worrying about DH has really knocked me out. Of coarse my work is calling me too.
Hope everyone has a good day.
tkrik 08-27-2008 08:53 AM
Sandy & Frank - I didn't see a dust storm. It doesn't surprise me though as we get them a lot during the monsoon season.
Frank - That is so cool that you saw a coyote. When I lived in my townhome and would walk in the morning there was this one coyote that would always be out walking on the sidewalk. It would just look at me like it was saying good morning. lol
Oh and I love, love, love to watch the javelinas. The babies are just so cute and they stick by their parents like glue. At DBF's "normal" house they would roam all around. He lives on 1 1/4 acre. He decided once to start putting potatoes out for them. They actually would come up to the porch right by us to eat. One even got up on the porch and tried to get in the house!!!! Now, javelinas STINK!!! You smell them long before they get there. lol.
Fin - We're supposed to get a lot of rain over the next few days. So I am with you on staying in. Actually, the temp is nice right now but it is humid. No walk this morning.:(
Renee - I hope you get to rest today. Still saying prayers that you will get one of the jobs you applied for.
Kay - That is so cool. I love sitting back and watching some of the wild life (as I mentioned above to Frank). It amazes me. Kind of a funny story . . .My dad is a deacon in our church. One year a group from the church went up in to the mountains to camp. My dad was going up there to do a communion service and asked if I wanted to go. So I did. We get up there and were talking to everyone, etc., etc.
As we stood talking, I saw a bear. I stood there and watched this bear coming in to the campsite. It was amazing and I was so in to watching it. It was cool. Then I just looked at my dad and the group he was talking to and said there's a bear. I was calm as could be. Once everyone realized what I had said, chaos broke out. LOL Everyone still gives me a hard time about that as I was just too calm and said it as if I had seen a dog or cat or something "common."
Hi everyone else I missed. Hope you all have a good day.
~~~~
Today I am going to work on my car a bit - coolant light is on - checked it yesterday and it is dangerously low. So I am going to top off all the fluids and have scheduled to bring it in next week to our mechanic friends as there may be a leak somewhere.:(

hollym 08-27-2008 08:54 AM

Oh my, it's been so long since I posted on this thread. Things are just so dang busy and my home laptop is not behaving itself and I'm too tired and cognitively fried when I get home to deal with it!! So, I'm only reading from work right now.

My kids went back to school on Monday. One is in 3rd (first year at Intermediate School) and other is in 6th grade (first year at Middle School) so this is a big transition year for us. So far, so good. I think the 6th grader was really ready to change classes and have more options and responsibility. I do hate the first week of school, though. It is an endless stream of forms to fill out and lists of things they need to bring in.

The 11 year old decided not to play football this fall. This bums me out but also relieves me of the time burden. Now, both boys will play fall baseball which is more relaxed and much less in the way of time draining.

We are in the process of redoing both bathrooms as we had some leak problems that resulted in both bathrooms being pretty messed up. The shower upstairs was leaking through the wall into the one right below it!! So, I got two screwed up bathrooms for the price of well TWO!! Luckily DH and I can do the work, so it is just materials, but it is still enough to spend. In the end, we will have two really nice bathrooms, though.

Grandma is doing really well. Now that she is in a routine and is more settled in my house, her memory isn't as bad. Her short term memory is still bad, but way better than it was. Sadly, for me, I think she remembers better than me a lot of the time.

Well, I have to get back to work. Hopefully, I will stay more caught up on this now.

I had an idea about keeping the thread short. How about Daily Insights for the week of 8-25-08 through 8-31-08 and so on. That way, each thread is for one week. No one thread will ever get too long. Just an idea....

Vonn07 08-27-2008 10:43 AM

hey Char ...

think POSITIVE about the algebra ... keep an open mind and you will pass with flying colors .. I believe in you!!

(I had to take a stats class this last winter/spring ... online! .. and hadn't had any schooling for over 20 years ... it was challenging ... but, I surprised myself and got an A!!)

SandyC 08-27-2008 11:18 AM

Hey all! We've already been on the phone with the doctor. Jim's leg spasms are at their peak and the doctor is thinking UTI AGAIN. He has a strong urgency so I will be dropping off a spec in a little while. He also up'd Jim's baclofen to four times a day and if that doesn't work, we'll stop that and try up'ing Tizantidine.

Trish, glad you didn't get the dust. It was in Phoenix I think.

Jenn, it's nice here but I can feel the humidity. Looks like the air will go back on on here.

Renee, I am glad you chilling today. You've been a busy bee the past several days.

Holly, welcome back. Was wondering where you ran off.

Char, I flunked algebra in college by mid term. I dropped it before it counted and took it as an independent study and passed with a C. I also bought a book but can't remember the name of it. It was a paperback, black cover with yellow writing. If you see a book like that, but it. I am going to look for it today and send it to you if you want it and I find it. It was the best book ever, for me anyway. Easy to understand and practice testing.

Frank, we had a coyote attack here last year and they killed a little dog. :(

Weave, I hope the package comes today! That is terrible that they couldn't give hubby something. BUT, we know what you mean about meds. When Jim went off gabapentin and valium he's felt much better. Makes you wonder why docs don't try to ween every once in awhile to see if it's needed anymore.

Kay, thanks for that visual. I wish we had animals walking around our yard like that.

Kitty, glad it stopped raining. My sister in Huntsville said they haven't seen the sun in days. That new hurricane looks bad and they are saying it could still be a cat3 by the time it hits LA. :(

Sarah, how are you feeling today?

Vonn
, how are you doing? I bet it's pretty by the lake today.

Barb, are you near UIUC? I wont ask the exact for obvious reasons but I was in grad school there.

Take care everyone and I hope I didn't leave anyone out and if I did I am so sorry. :grouphug:

Exactly! :mad: What really burns us up is DH would go to his doc and mention symptoms that were side effects of his meds. Instead of trying a different drug they would increase the dosage! :mad::mad:

Now he does have a family history of heart problems so he probably should stay on those drugs. He also has stomach problems so he probably needs that drug. There is one I'm not sure he should have ever been put on and now he is on a very high dosage of it. :mad: He thinks that one is causing the most problems. With the order mix-up he has gone off it cold turkey (he should have been very slowly tapered off it) and the nasty withdrawal may be over. He read on the internet of people who are never able to go off this drug because of the dependancy it creates. I don't think he is going to go back on that med and just see what happens. I'm a little concerned about that but I'm not really sure it ever worked so... :confused:

I do know he is going to change doctors once again. Where he is going now he never seems to be seen by an actual doctor. He gets a nurse practioner instead. Now don't get me wrong... I do think NPs are a valuable option. It's just that sorting out his six drug mess isn't one of them.

SandyC 08-27-2008 12:56 PM

My mom's general doc is a NP too. My mom said she has never met the "real" doctor. lol

Jim's doc just up'd his baclofen and now I am remembering something about baclofen making spasms worse or something. I might be wrong but I am going to research it. I think, now I am not a doctor but, I believe the spasms are related to his possible UTI. I am going to watch and if they get better on antibiotics we will go back down to his normal regimen. Sometimes I think we know more than the docs!

barb02 08-27-2008 01:21 PM

Hi everyone! I am so tired right now that I want to cry.:Sob: Instead I have to go back to school in 15 minutes for another class. I came home for lunch. :Starvin:This one (grad class) is 1 hour and 40 minutes long. I am team teaching it so I only have to be there for 4 wednesdays so it should not be too bad. I should not have stayed up to watch Hilary's speech knowing that I had to be at school early today. Oh well -- live and learn. I don't really want to cry. I just want to take a nap.:Zzzz:

Sandy -- The university I teach at is one hour south of Champaign/Urbana.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Sorry I do not have time to respond to all of your posts. So, I will just say hey to all of you! :OuttaHere:

SandyC 08-27-2008 01:25 PM

Barb, don't worry about the speeches and staying up. Cnn.com has all of them for you to view at your leisure. :hug:

Thanks to really good, trustworthy websites on the internet I think you are right. We have the luxury of researching things relative to us only. Docs have to know everything about everything. I don't envy them!

His meds are here!

SandyC 08-27-2008 01:34 PM

I often think that about some doctors. They are some of the most amazing people out there in that they have so much medical knowledge and take an oath to save lives. BUT, I also think because they cover so many diseases and ailments, they can't possibly get down to the nitty gritty of what works for one doesn't always work for others. It seems they get caught up in the "generic" therapies and assume everyone is the same. We were not all created as a one size fits all and therefore need independent treatments.

Debbie D 08-27-2008 03:13 PM

Sandy,
It seems weird that baclofen, which is often prescribed for spasms, would increase them. My NP increased gabapentin for my spasms, since I can't seem to tolerate muscle relaxants. They seem to have been reduced a bit...not 100% though.
I don't understand why I am so tired. Well, one reason could be that it takes me at least an hour to fall asleep at night...RLS is bugging me when I lie down. I need to take my medicine earlier in the evening.
But this tiredness has been hitting me even if I haven't been very active. I'd been feeling really great lately. And now I'm literally in tears, because I'm so tired I can't even seem to clear the kitchen counter off.

My DH and I are taking his parents up to their cabin in NW Wisconsin this weekend. The weather's supposed to be nice, so they'll be able to sit out on their deck and enjoy the view of the lake.

Hope that those in the Gulf watch that storm coming up very carefully; and I hope that the foercasters are wrong...

SandyC 08-27-2008 03:17 PM

Yeah your probably right Debbie, it doesn't make sense and was probably another med I am thinking of. Sorry your feeling blah. Seems to be the norm around here lately. I am convinced it's the humidity and pray that's all it is.

Have fun at the cabin this weekend. It's supposed to be beautiful out!

weegot5kiz 08-27-2008 03:33 PM

thats one reason I stopped taking Baclofen and I seem to recall a thread talking about it and there were a few who stopped for same reason. I recently stopped all my meds and starting the LDN low dose naltraxone, and for the life of me i am not sure now if it was the fact i stopped or the new med that replaced the 4 I stopped, at present time that has made me feel better except last few days, I do know prior to the LDN i was feeling a change so getting off my meds did make a diff for me, was drug free for a week b4 i started the LDN

Sandy sorry to hear about the attack we have had some of those happen around here too. I hope Jim feels better, is he able to soak in a bath? or will ice help, please tell Jim I said hey and I hope he gets to feeling better real soon

Barb I am sorry you are tired, hopefully your body and rest catch up from vacation real soon, try to just take it easy let a few things go and rest asap for a few days, maybe it will help:hug:

I agree Deb hope all are well in the gulf area

everyone hope your all doing well

rumors have it this tucan flew away in a hough because of some kind of screeching lol i mean singing... hiya kay:hug:

hope you all have a nice day I did nada but sleep today

barb02 08-27-2008 04:23 PM

Hi Sandy, I have watched some of the speeches on CNN. I think they available on UTube also and at several other sites. But for some reason, I just felt the need to see it in real time. I will probably do the same for Obama's acceptance speech tomorrow. I can't help it. It is the political nerd coming out.:rolleyes:

NaeNae 08-27-2008 04:26 PM

I have been lazy and taken two naps for about an hour hour and a half today...and I'm still tired but I have also been popping Zanaflex like tictacs too!

I agree 110%. This is why I adore my rhuemy. When all the textbook case tests came back negative he starting looking outside the box instead of turning me away. He kept coming back to the thought that I had gluten problems. Turned out he was right. And he was agreeable to me getting tested for it by a method he never heard of. Yup, Dr. K is a real keeper!

DH arrived home from work doing much better than I dared hope for. Not that he is feeling great but he is doing better than I expected. He has an appointment with his new doc on Friday. His new doc is osteopathic. That is something new for him/us. He is used to a MD. One of DH's supervisors goes to this doc and the info DH gave me sounds really nice. Meds as last resort, try meds before a rx is filled out, sense of humor, solo practice, rarely running late... The kids and I go to another MD but if DH really likes this new doc we might switch. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the light up ahead is sunlight not another train coming my way.

Ugh, Jim is really having a tough time with this UTI. He's having urgency like no ones business. I was told to up his bactrim to full dose and stop the sinus antibiotic. We wont have the sensitivities in for another three days, probably Friday. I hope the bactrim keeps it in check until then.

Good grief, anything else?
