Hi everyone
I think dd(8) has the chicken pox... its been going around her classroom for the last two weeks. Well today she said she had a "pimple" under her chin. Well i looked and it looks like a blister and has a tiny red dot in the centre. She only has one so far but has been feeling unwell for a bit. I thought that when you get them that you usually don't start out with just one. I've "googled" what they look like and it seems to be what she has. My teenaged boys have never had them.. my mom can't remember if i've had them and hubby doesn't remember getting them either... So it may prove to be a very interesting christmas. Any tips if it does turn out to be them? I feel itchy just thinking about it. Cindy |

Oh Nooooooh!!!! Not Chicken Pox for Christmas!!!
My 4 kids (ages 6 mo. to 6 years) all got them together*. The baby started out with just one. I thought she was going to be lucky, but she did get a few more. *Oh dear! Was that really 27.5 years ago??? Wow, sorry about Miss Haylee. Hope she doesn't give it to everyone else. I think you're right: This could be a very interesting Christmas! *sigh Good luck!!!

so sorry to hear that....calamine lotion is helpful for the itching
L-lysine might help too (it is an amino acid that may inhibit the virus...) check with your doc tho if ok for kids

What should you do? Run. Run as fast and far as you can.
Just kidding (kinda), of course. My daughter was 10 when she came home with the chicken pox, her little brother was 3 months so I was sure he was immune. Ha. He was covered in spots and the poor guy didn't quite know how to itch...And it was Mother's Day weekend. Weeee.. Calamine lotion and cool/luke warm baths with baking soda help the itching. Other than that, it's pretty much a waiting game..Best of luck!

you can get oatmeal tablets for the bath it will help too, mine both got it and the calamine works so does benadryl(sp?), the RX told me when the scratching gets real bad both benadryl and calamine at same time would solve that problem,
Hope its a false alarm hope all the adults have had it I have not had the pox but somewhere I must of gotten a small case of it, cause my two got it 2 weeks apart and for me that was the longest 6 weeks wondering if I was going to get it. Again hopefully its a false alarm,

Well? How are things in the infirmary?
And how did your Christmas go? I'll bet Chicken Pox didn't dampen your kids' enthusiasm too much, did it?

then one day he was lying down on couch and it was like the stuffing was knocked out of him. He said "I feel horrible". He felt hot. I saw the back of his neck had all these blistery things. Since our doctor was 4 blocks away, I marched him over there. It was like getting a mack truck to walk. He was so weak. I really had no clue what was wrong. You should have seen the look on my face when the doctor said "chicken pox". I just looked at him and said "that's ridiculous, he's 13 years old". He said "It's chicken pox". "nothing you can do, it has to run the course, keep him in a quiet room, give acetominophen, and fluids". I made lots of chicken soup during that time. It ran it's course. I never knew a 13 year old could get it. I thought only little kids got it. Live and Learn. Hope she feels better. Melody
