Default Tooting your own horn!

When do you honk your horn? Are you a rage honker?

I am driving a main street in search of a plant nursery on the street. I see it on the left and there is a turning lane. So I move into it and just as the car behind me comes up level, he/she BLASTS the horn.

Scared the you-know out of me!

Do other auto drivers put you in a rage with their driving?

Are you a speed demon or do you drive the speed limit?

Red face

Where we live people do not stop at stop signs, or red lights!

I honk at them then. I will honk at someone ahead of me who stops suddenly at a GREEN light (not so rare either).

But I don't honk unless a danger is present. It might enrage some kook, who knows?

People are in such a hurry it seems....and have so little patience for others.

Since my dx I have become more tolerant with others driving "styles" because I know mine have changed drastically. I don't drive too much anymore but when I do I stick to the slow lane (if there is such a thing anymore ).

Even when I go the speed limit people get right up on my tail. When they do I just flip the rearview mirror up so I don't have to look at them rising my bumper.

I hardly ever blow my horn unless it's to scare a squirrel out of the road or some other animal. I did blow my horn last week at a pig in front of me who threw trash out his window while driving.

The honking made me think of something that happened when I was in my 20's. I accidentally cut a driver off and she changed lanes. When we were even on the road, I did the "I am Sorry" gestures with mouthing the apology. She kept looking angry, yelling. I kept apologizing but it escalated.

I started yelling my apology!!

After a few minutes and when she drove off, it was so funny to be mad and saying "sorry" all at once.

I get honked at a lot for not turning...
because wow...there are pedestrians crossing the street. Jeez!

Sadly- I have had to honk my horn waaaaaaaaaaaay more than I'd like- definitely for safety purposes...

Too many cell-phoners not paying attention to the PROPER task at hand...driving!

Can't tell you how many times cell phone drivers/chatters have come too close to hitting my car.

Wow- imagine that...focusing on the road and not the call...or texting messages!

I just honked the other day. I mean I laid on the horn. OK, picture this. I am on the interstate highway and we're coming up on an intersection doing 55mph. This particular intersection is always backed up at rush hour already causing problems if you don't realize everyone is dead stopped in the 55 mph lane!

So anticipating this I merge to the left to avoid the sudden stop and then start to merge back into the right lane. But nooooooooo, some idiots decided they would go farther up and try to squeeze in, you know, like a zipper type manuever? I almost hit them and had to merge left quickly because their tails were sticking out just enough that I or anyone else couldn't pass safely. Thank goodness no one was in the left lane or it wouldn't have been pretty.

I laid on that horn for at least one city block on all those people with their tails out. LOL Jim looked at me and asked "What happened?" Even funnier!

Other than that, I rarely ever honk the horn. I watched a girl with children in the car get nervous when a whole line of us honked because she was going to cross two lanes to turn left without looking. She had us all stopped while she turned. We were begging her not to do it but I don't think she undertsood English well. The end result was she pulled out in front of oncoming traffic and was slammed by other cars. They survived but I will never ever forget that. To this day none of us in that lane can say we didn't somehow contribute to her getting nervous and making a wrong decision. She was going to do it anyway but the honking horns probably made her go before she thought about it. True story. I think before honking now, it has to be worth it.

I had a guy honk at me the other day to get my attention. I was fuming made and was screaming in the car where the heck would you like me to go. After he got my attention he did the unroll your window action so I did and he yelled that I had a low tire. I really appreciated that. If only he heard what I was calling him.

I like my horn....but only when someone turns right on red or runs a stop sign and I'm about the hit them. It's happening more and more. With our new car, a Hyundai Elantra, when you hit the horn it politely goes beep beep in a tiny little way. My van horn goes BEEP BEEP nice and loud. I prefer the van of course!
